The Jaguar XF is a compelling midsize luxury sedan in every aspect. The 2022 Jaguar XF carries over the previous model year of the car with no major changes. The Jaguar XF offers an excellent value for its price as it is one of the most affordable options in the segment, But that does not mean that you have to make many compromises for it. You get a luxurious cabin with premium quality materials. The simplicity in the cabin is expected from the British manufacturer. The only thing that feels a bit compromise is that there is no V6 engine option on offer and you get only a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. However, the engine does not feel underpowered and delivers impressive performance for its class. The balance between ride and handling will keep the driver delighted from behind the wheel. The 2022 Jaguar XF goes up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the BMW 5 Series, and the Audi A6.

2022 Jaguar XF Complaints and Problems

The 2022 Jaguar XF is in its second generation. The current generation XF was launched back in 2016 and has been in the market for quite some time. There are no major changes for the 2022 model year of the XF over the previous model year. The complaint section for both these model years remains empty for now on the NHTSA website. But there are some complaints about the current generation Jaguar XF reported on the NHTSA website and other forums. Let’s have a look at some of the most common complaints reported by the owners of the current generation Jaguar XF.

Engine Problem

  • Faulty turbo actuator problems: Although the current model year of the Jaguar XF does not get any diesel engine option, they were a part of the lineup only a few years back. One of the common Jaguar XF faults was related to the diesel engine options. Many owners reported Jaguar XF turbo actuator problems with the diesel engine. The most common problem it causes is that you face a lack of power on the higher end of the rave range. There are many other issues also noticed due to the same problem. But since there is no diesel engine on offer currently, you are safe on this aspect.

Electrical system problem

  • Fuel gauge problems: The Jaguar XF fuel gauge problems have also been one of the common faults with the car for many model years. The problems are faced in some of the first-generation XF. The owners reported that the fuel gauge shows a wrong reading of fuel in the tank. There is some problem with the fuel tank sender that mounts inside the tank of the car. The problem was solved by Jaguar in the recent model years of the XF. There are no similar problems reported by any owner of the Jaguar XF in recent years.
  • Parking camera problems: There have been complaints suggesting Jaguar XF parking camera faults reported by the owners of the car. One of the owners of the current generation Jaguar XF reported that the parking camera on his car does not engage each time the vehicle is shifted into reverse. It randomly fails to engage the parking camera even when the car is in reverse gear which should not be the case. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where they said that they have re-set the software. It could not solve the problem for a long time and the problem started to occur again only in a few days. There have been issues with the parking camera with the earlier model years of the Jaguar XF too.

Brake Problems

  • Brake judder problem: The Jaguar XF is known for its excellent driving dynamics and performance for a long time now. One of the major aspects of driving fun is its excellent braking performance. However, there have been some problems with the braking hardware of the Jaguar XF. There are Jaguar XF brake judder problems reported by the owners of the car. Some owners also reported that there is some weird noise coming from the brakes of the car. The problem was reported by both the first and second generations of the XF. But the good thing is that the last few model years of XF did not have the same issue.

Steering Wheel Problem

  • Power steering wheel problem: The power steering of the Jaguar XF has given problems to some owners of the car. One of the owners of the current generation car reported that when turning the car towards the left side, the car started to turn at a way higher speed than the steering input. The problem is quite serious as you do not have many options in such cases and it also creates a panic situation. A similar problem was also reported on a forum by an owner of one of the last generation Jaguar XF. The owner reported that while making a right turn, the steering wheel locks up for a while. It does not leave much control in the hands of the driver. There have not been any similar instances reported by the owners in the last few years.

Safety Features Problem

  • Auto start/stop system problem: There is an auto start/stop feature with the Jaguar XF which is supposed to be a safety feature. One of the owners of the car reported that when he was standing at a traffic light, the vehicle started to gain speed without the driver pressing the gas pedal. The vehicle started moving ahead without any warning which could lead to a crash. The owner tried turning the auto start/stop feature off and the problem did not occur after that. It is a big safety concern for the buyers.

2022 Jaguar XF Recalls

There are no recalls issued from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the 2022 Jaguar XF so far. The previous model year of the Jaguar XF received one recall to fix the problem with the seat belt automatic retractor. There are no complaints related to that for the current generation car which means that Jag has fixed that problem with the launch of the 2022 Jaguar XF. The current generation of the Jaguar XF has been in the market for a long time. There are some recalls when you include all the model years of the current generation car. Let’s have a look at the recalls for the second generation of the Jaguar XF.

Which model years of the Jaguar XF should you avoid?

The Jaguar XF is not considered among the reliable cars in its cars. The German rivals offer better reliability. There is no big difference in the cost of the ownership but the Jag is going to be a bit on the expensive side on your pocket compared to some of its rivals. The reliability scores of the Jaguar XF have not been impressive to change the mind of the buyers either. However, most of the reported problems are common problems that might occur in any vehicle. There are no serious problems in the recent models of the Jaguar XF to strengthen your trust in the vehicle further. Still, there are certain model years that you should better be avoiding. We recommend you avoid the 2013, 2016, and 2017 model years of the Jaguar XF.

Should you buy the 2022 Jaguar XF?

The Jaguar XF is the only sedan in Jag’s lineup in 2022. There are no major changes in the last model year either. However, the Jaguar XF manages to offer an excellent package for its price. It does not offer the same technology and features compared to its German rivals but is also significantly cheaper than them. You get a potent powertrain that never puts you in a situation wanting for more power. The simple cabin layout feels premium with high-quality materials. There are no major problems with the current generation car either. To sum it up, the 2022 Jaguar XF is an excellent option in its class.
