The Jaguar XF, first introduced in 2008 has been the flagship sedan in the Jaguar lineup. The 2021 Jaguar XF falls in the luxury midsize segment and offers stand-out features, impressive fuel economy, and an upscale cabin. The Jaguar XF is perfect for you if you're looking for a luxury sedan that is slightly different than the usual German options. The XF is also priced comparatively low and yet the XF comes with aggressive styling that will surely make heads turn.

But how does the XF perform in the reliability department? According to the NHTSA, the 2021 Jaguar XF does not have any user complaints and only one recall. So let's take a look at the 2021 Jaguar XF’s reliability, recalls, common user complaints, and its comparison with its fellow competitors like the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the 2021 BMW 5 Series.

2021 Jaguar XF User Complaints and Problems

Engine and Mechanical Problems

  • Fuel leak - Some of the Jaguar XF models have had issues with fuel leaking. The fuel tank’s flange outlet is prone to cracking which increases the chance of fuel leakage. This is also a safety hazard as it can cause a fire.
  • Suspension - All Jaguar XF models have had complaints regarding its rear suspension noise.

Safety Problems

  • Airbags - Owners of the previous models of the BMW X6 have had problems with the airbags. In an event of a collision, the inflators may rupture and can cause lethal injuries.

Exteriors Problems

  • Wheels - Owners of the Jaguar FX have complained that the alloy wheels might easily break after about 40000 miles.

Electrical Problems

  • Instrument cluster - Owners of the BMW X6 have complained that the instrument cluster blanks out without warning. The blacking out is most probably a software problem that could be repaired quickly at dealerships.

Seat belt automatic locking retractor malfunction

The seat belt automatic locking retractors might deactivate early, which can prevent the child restraint system from securing correctly. An unsecured child restraint system can increase the risk of injury during a crash.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) recalls certain 2021 XF vehicles. Dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed on October 20, 2021. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is H378. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Should you buy the 2021 Jaguar XF?

In terms of reliability, the 2021 Jaguar XF might be a moderately reliable car but it falls behind when compared to other cars in its segment. The high ownership cost doesn't help either. Some of the common user problems for the Jaguar XF have been regarding its Engine, Air Bags, Steering, and Suspension which are all vital components.

In terms of competition, the BMW 5 Series emerges as a better choice given its upscale interiors, powerful engine, and abundant tech features. On the other hand, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class offers lavish interiors and an unmatched driving experience. Overall we would suggest browsing through other cars in the segment as the 2021 Jaguar XF falls behind in its segment.
