The Jaguar XF is a luxury sedan that has been on the market for more than a decade. Having a reputation for its zesty ride abilities, the 2020 Jaguar XF competes in an already overcrowded segment. Moreover, the XF is one of the most affordable luxury sedans in its segment. But is the 2020 Jaguar XF a reliable sedan? To answer that, here we look at the XF's problems, recalls, user complaints, and performance against the likes of the 2020 BMW 5 Series and the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

2020 Jaguar XF User Complaints and Problems

Engine and Mechanical Problems

  • Hose Clamps - Many models of the Jaguar XF have had complaints of too loose hose clamps. The hoses might detach and can result in engine stalling.
  • Airbags - Airbags on some of the Jaguar XF might be faulty. The propellants used in the airbags are prone to degrade after exposure to moisture and high temperature. This can cause the inflators to rupture in case of a collision.
  • Suspension - Jaguar XF models are prone to have issues with suspension. Many owners have complained about excessive rear suspension noise. The issue can be resolved with a full suspension rebuild.
  • Fuel Leak - The fuel tank’s outlet flange of the Jaguar XF might be prone to cracking. Because of the crack, the fuel might leak.

Exterior Problems

  • Alloy Wheels- Many of the Jaguar XF’s owners have had issues with their alloy wheels. The complaints suggest that the alloy wheels are prone to crack after 40000 miles.
  • Windshield Wipers - The windshield wipers' blades on the Jaguar XF are prone to wear out faster. This means you will require to replace them more than you would need to on other cars.

Electrical Problems

  • Instrument Cluster - Some of the Jaguar XF owners have complained about instrument cluster malfunction. The instrument cluster in some cases just blanks out without any warning. The issue is likely to be a software problem that could be resolved by updating to the latest version.
  • Electrical System - Many of the Jaguar XF models have issues with the electrical system. The XF is notorious for its electrical system malfunction as it may sometimes display faulty low tire pressure warning lights.

Should you buy the 2020 Jaguar XF?

The Jaguar XF might not be one of the best sedans in the segment but it surely has a place of its own. The XF delivers a sporty, athletic, and refined driving experience that makes it stand out. However, the XF is far from perfect given its underpowered engine and an abundance of low-quality leather in the interior. Moreover, the 2020 Jaguar XF has pretty average reliability given its high-maintenance cost and user complaints.

Coming to its competition, the 2020 Jaguar XF goes head to head against the 2020 BMW 5 Series and 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The Jaguar XF has an upper hand over the 5 series in terms of trunk space and ownership costs, but the 5 Series overshines the XF in terms of interior quality and engine performance. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is also a good option over the XF but it comes with a heavy price tag. The E-Class is available in a variety of body choices and packs a powerful engine. It is arguably one of the best sedans in the segment but its high ownership cost might upset potential buyers. Overall, the 2020 Jaguar XF is a good choice for a luxury sedan but there are better options available in the segment for a bit more money.
