... Sure, it drives between A and B - but the usability issues on the car make it a frustrating experience pretty much daily. My local dealership closed about a month ago - sure makes me think Infiniti is not doing well if they can't keep a dealership in a prime suburban market. Read More

With the introduction of the 2022 Infiniti QX60, Infiniti has taken a good leap in rendering a new image for the aging QX60 lineup. The carmaker has made good progress by utilizing their time by skipping out on the 2021 QX60 iteration and putting their resources towards resolving the undermining issues with the previous QX60 generation thereby introducing the 2022 Infiniti QX60. Although the QX60 gets a modern makeover with sharper bodywork, added luxury, and tech integration, the new 2022 QX60 shares the proven V6 as a similarity with the previous generation iterations.

The 2022 QX 60 lines up reasonably with the base trim 2022 Infiniti QX60 PURE starting at $47,875 and the top of line 2022 Infiniti QX60 AUTOGRAPH pricing at $61,375. The 2022 Infiniti QX60 finds its rivals in the likes of the 2022 Acura MDX, the 2022 Lexus RX 350L, and the 2022 Cadillac XT6 but with the redesigned bodywork, it punches above its weight against the 2022 Audi Q7 and makes a mark it’s as a complete package.

2022 Infiniti QX60 User Complaints and Problems

The Infiniti QX60 makes for a sound vehicle choice but the SUV lineup has seen its fair share of complaints that have often required the recalling of vehicles. Since the Infiniti QX60 shares several in-house components with the Infiniti QX50 lineup, the most problem are common to both the lineups. However here in the case of Infiniti QX60, the first generation (2014-2020) has seen powertrain, transmission, brake system, and electronic system issues across various models. For the second generation introduced in 2020, though major complaints do not reappear with the 2020 Infiniti QX60 and the 2022 QX60, the lineups have shown hints of sunroof shattering and collision warning system malfunction as major issues. Few default problems with the QX60 are mentioned as follows:

Mechanical Complaints

  • Transmission malfunction - The Infiniti QX60 has had a long-standing history of transmission malfunctions across the two generations of the QX60 lineups. There have been several complaints about transmission problems wherein customers have complained about hesitating gear shifts, gear jamming, and cases of heavy vibrations and shaking when driving. With the new second-generation QX60, Infiniti has taken greater care to resolve the issue since no similar complaints have been registered for the 2020 QX60 and 2022 QX60 variants.
  • Powertrain malfunction - Powertrain malfunction has again been a known issue with both generations of the QX60 lineups. Customer complaints report sudden loss of power and engine stalling with the vehicle under operation as well as instances of impromptu acceleration without any sort of humane input whatsoever. These powertrain issues have resulted in a few crashes, but, with no fatalities recorded.
  • Loose seat holdings - The QX60 lineup has seen a few complaints about the loosening of seat holders, seat track, and the seat mountings which introduces a noticeable rattling noise as well as free movement of passenger seats. This is not only distractive but also dangerous in event of a crash.
  • Brake failure - Brake issues have been common to the Infiniti QX60. These problems possess a greater threat for crashing for QX60 users. The complaints have shown reports of total brake failures and operators not being able to stop the vehicle and ending up crashing. There are also records of complaints mentioning temporary blockage of the brake paddle and ineffective braking performance. As per records, the brake system issues have been a chronic problem for the QX60 lineup.

Electric System Complaints

  • Front collision warning system malfunction - The Infiniti QX60 lineup has seen a significant number of cases related to front collision warning system malfunctions owing to faulty sensors. Due to the front collision system malfunction, vehicle operators have complained about the abrupt application of automatic emergency brakes. This poses a major crash risk, especially on interstates. This issue is seen majorly in the 2019 as well as the 2020 model year. Infiniti has made a point to address this with the 2022 interation of the QX60.
  • Airbag sensor warning light fluctuation on the IC - Infiniti QX60 users have had a few complaints regarding abrupt fluctuations of the airbag warning lights on the QX60 instrumentation cluster. Though this does not possess an immediate risk, Infiniti needed to investigate the causes and the co-passenger weight sensor was found to be the faulty culprit here.

Structural Complaints

  • Shattering of the sunroof The most common complaint with the Infiniti QX60 lineup has been the exploding sunroofs. Most annual QX60 iterations across the two generations have recorded cases of shattering of sunroof without any external impact. The precise cause of this remains anybody’s guess but the speculations point out heat and high temperatures as a probable cause.

Safety Complaints

  • Airbag malfunction - As per reports, Infiniti QX60 is not new to airbag system malfunction complaints which have also led to a few vehicle recalls. As per claims, customers have often found themselves in a situation wherein the airbags have deployed without any impact or prompt from the operator's end. Although the issue poses a threat of crashing and risk of injury, there has been no crash history that traces back to airbag malfunctions. However, a thorough quality check from Infiniti is required here.
  • Back up camera malfunction - Back up camera malfunction has again been a common issue to the Infiniti QX60 lineup. Registered complainees have described the problem stating the absence of images and graphics on the reverse camera display screen leading to crashes. A sole case connected to reverse backup camera malfunction has recorded a minor injury. Even though this does not directly affect the driving dynamics of the vehicle, it needs a fix.

2022 Infiniti QX60 Recalls

Recalls have not been common with the Infiniti QX60 however the lineup has a history of needed and timely addressed recalls. Although the 2022 Infiniti QX60 lineup has already come across its first recall case, it is too early to judge the reliability of the second-generation QX60 lineup. Concerning the first-generation QX60 lineup, records show a significant number of recalls citing major threats like abrupt loss of power, brake failures, brake fluid leakage, and airbag malfunctions. However with the changes seen, the new QX60 fairs well as of now.

Which Infiniti QX60 model year should you avoid?

The recently introduced 2022 Infiniti QX60 naturally makes for a preferable and practical option to go ahead with but as for the first generation goes, it is better to be advised about the 2017 QX60 problem complaints and the 2014 Infiniti qx60 hybrid battery problems that have troubled QX60 buyers. Concerning the other first-generation iterations, the 2020 and the 2018 iterations are good options to consider.

Should you buy a used Infiniti QX60?

In short yes, provided that the buyer has done the homework for the Infiniti QX60 lineup. The QX60 definitely makes for a promising option for a used car but since the lineup has seen a series of problems one needs to tread carefully. The first generation QX60 which spanned through 2014 to 2020 does not really charm with its looks as the latest release does, but it still offers a pretty solid package with a versatile drive for a decent budget. If you plan on getting a car that can fit multiple roles shuffling between city commute and touring, a used 2018 Infiniti QX60 would be a good choice for a budget. Although the first-generation Infiniti QX60 has its flaws, Infiniti assures a good standard of aftersale services.
