The 2020 QX60 sits right in the middle of Infiniti’s SUV line-up for the year; between the lofty and expensive, top-of-the-range QX80 and the compact QX50. It is essentially Infiniti’s take on the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder, which invokes no surprise as this luxury marque serves under Nissan, transforming their vehicles to appeal to more affluent sections of the population. As a mid-size SUV in its second generation avatar, Infiniti has attempted to make it stylish, but the basic design has been around since 2013 and fails to truly impress against modern rivals. That said, the signature Infiniti design cues like the imposing front grille and the quirky kink on the C-pillar give it a very distinctive appearance.
As an Infiniti, this seven-seater SUV delivers more than expected lavishness within the cabin. Particularly commendable was the excellent road and wind noise cancellation, which allows for a sense of serenity for the passengers. The exceptional ride quality is another cap in its hat, soaking up bumps and potholes without the slightest inconvenience. Powered by a 3.5L V6 putting out 295 horsepower, this hefty machine comes with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) as standard, and, for off-road enthusiasts, an all-wheel-drive option is also available. On-road dynamics are far from great and it also exhibits a fair amount of body roll when cornering, though this comes as a small price to pay for the wonderfully pliant suspension.
The primary rivals for this inherently Japanese SUV include the 2020 Lexus RX, the 2020 Acura MDX, and the 2020 Buick Enclave. Although the 2020 Infiniti QX60 does not decisively dominate in quantitative comparisons, it manages to hold its own within the segment and is a decent all-rounder.
