Overview

Infiniti is a brand that is usually associated with luxury and performance and the QX60 tries to offer just that but while being seated higher up and with more space. The car has all the bells and whistles expected in the segment but has a lot more up its sleeves than what meets the eyes. Crossovers are all the rage but what Infiniti offers has a glint of spark in it.

Buying Advice

Deciding on which trim to buy is very straightforward when it comes to the QX60. If you require a vehicle that you are willing to hit rough patches with or live in terrain with extreme weather, especially snow (Because the car comes with snow mode), you may choose the AWD variant. If you would use the car to pick up kids from school or go to the supermarket, the FWD would do just fine. The jump between the trims is made easier with the gap between them just being $1,400. This makes the AWD more desirable and makes it a better deal as you get the best of both worlds.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2015 Infiniti QX60 comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes it exciting as it is but all the features and creature comforts that come with the car itself make it an Infiniti. All this at a price of around forty grand makes the competition run for their money. It rivals the likes of the 2015 Buick Enclave, 2015 Acura MDX and 2015 Audi Q7.

Features
8.0/10

The 2015 Infiniti QX60 comes with an extremely limited trim section. The car basically remains the same but comes with two offerings, FWD and AWD. The trims are offered at $42,000 for the front-wheel-drive and $43,800 for the all-wheel drive. The rest of the car remains the same for both the trims being offered. The car also comes with a hybrid variant but was soon discontinued due to low sales. It packed a four-cylinder supercharged engine that produced similar figures and did not do wonders in terms of mileage as well.

All variants have a slew of features like front row heated seats, keyless entry for all doors, leather seats, LCD screen at the front and many more. The long feature list justifies it being at the luxury crossover segment and the lack of options creates less confusion when deciding the variant.

Engine and Performance
7.0/10

The performance is where the 2015 Infiniti QX60 seems a bit dull. The car has an excellent 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 265 horsepower at 6,400 RPM and 248 lb.-ft of torque at 4,400 RPM but the power delivery seems slow in the standard mode. The sports mode makes the power delivery better but then the fuel efficiency takes a hit. The car hits 0-60mph in a slow 8.9 seconds and has a quarter-mile time of 16.9 seconds.

The CVT transmission gets the job done but is a bit sluggish. Put the car into economy mode and the driving pleasure saps right out. The QX60 becomes unresponsive and even pushing the pedal becomes a chore. Try pushing the car too much in the economy mode and it will push back with subpar performance. The Snow mode performs well and reduces the initial torque buildup to make the car more controllable in slippery conditions.

The QX60 offers good competition to its rivals but burns out as the performance output from them shoots right ahead. All have 3.5-liter V6s except the 2015 Audi Q7 but the performance from others shoots ahead. 2015 Audi Q7 really outperforms with its quarter-mile time of just 14.8 seconds, putting it way ahead of the competition.

Fuel Economy
8.0/10

The 2015 Infiniti QX60 really shines when it comes to fuel efficiency with a mileage of 21 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway. This gives it a class-leading range of 409/526.5 miles in the city and on the highway, respectively. The only car that can try keeping up is the Acura MDX with a mileage of 20 and 28 MPG in the city and on the highway, respectively.

The QX60 also comes with a tank capacity of 19.5 gallons that helps it reach the respectable range that it has. The car that can keep up with the Infiniti is the Acura with a tank capacity of 19.5 gallons.

Interior
9.0/10

The interior of the 2015 QX60 is exactly what you would expect from a luxury crossover at this price range. The seats are comfortable and offer good support. The second-row seats can seat 3 passengers with utmost comfort and can slide back five inches as well to give out a class-leading space. The head and shoulder room inside the cabin is huge as well. Add all that to the comfortable leather seats and it makes QX60 the perfect combination for luxury.

The good part is that even though it has a comfortable third row like its competitor, the Acura MDX, the QX60 has surprisingly comfortable third-row seating unlike any of the rivals. The downside is the addition of some hard plastic bits in the cabin which really seem out of place in a $42,000 crossover aimed towards luxury.

Thanks to its smartly structured cabin and the addition to the luxury feature that the QX60 offers, it comes out as a strong contender. QX60 when compared to the 2015 Acura MDX and the 2015 Audi Q7 comes out as a clear winner.2015 Buick Enclaveoffers a large cargo capacity at 23 cu ft which is the best in the segment

Standout interior features:

  • Leather upholstery
  • 8-way power driver seat
  • 6-way power passenger seat
  • Heated front seats
  • Tri-zone automatic climate control

How intuitive is the 2015 INFINITI QX60’s infotainment unit?

The infotainment system in the 2015 QX60 sports a 7-inch central touchscreen display with a 6-speaker audio system. You also get 3 months of Sirius XM FM/AM satellite radio, satellite navigation, USB connectivity and a speed-sensitive audio volume control function. There is a long list of options or extras that can be added to the standard list of infotainment features of the vehicle. The Deluxe Touring Package adds a Bose Waveguide Audio system to the entertainment along with other exterior add-ons. A $1,700 theater option adds two displays to the second-row seating for rear passenger entertainment.

Standout infotainment features:

  • Sirius XM AM/FM radio
  • 6-speaker audio system
  • Bose Waveguide Audio system
  • 7-inch touch display

Exterior
8.0/10

The 2015 Infiniti QX60 is well designed for a crossover that is usually boxy or over-styled. The elegant lines run from the front of the car towards the back staying true to its aerodynamic styling. Being a huge crossover, it looks like a smaller car thanks to its sedan-like styling which prevents it from looking too bulky like many of its competitors.

Since it comes in only one trim, you get 18-inch wheels, automatic bi-xenon headlights, fog lights, LED tail lights, sunroof and power liftgate as standard. Small designs like the chrome add ons on the grille and the windows exaggerate the fluid body style making it look luxurious and sleek.

The QX60 is clearly taller than all its competitors and has a humongous wheelbase as well all packed neatly within the elegantly styled lines of the car. The only segment where the QX60 falls behind is the ground clearance with only 6.5 inches of ground clearance.

Standout exterior features:

  • 18-inch wheels
  • automatic bi-xenon headlights
  • Heated and power-folding side mirrors
  • Sunroof
  • Power liftgate

Safety
8.0/10

This is another segment that the 2015 QX60 easily aces with an NHTSA rating of five out of five stars. Add that to a long list of safety features like the reverse parking camera, traction control, adaptive cruise control, lane departure system, all-around view monitor, six airbags with side curtain airbags.

Add the options and you can have even more top-of-the-line high-tech safety systems to make the car even safer. The 2015 Infiniti QX60 also has a backup collision intervention system that uses sonar to detect objects behind the car and automatically alerts the driver.

Standout safety features:

  • Traction Control
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Forward collision warning
  • Lane-departure warning and prevention system
  • Blind-spot warning system
  • Backup Collision Prevention system
  • Intelligent Brake Assist

Final Verdict

The 2015 QX60 is a car that stays true to what it was made for and that is cruising on long stretches of road in luxury. The car packs all the features that are expected from a luxury vehicle and packs a solid punch in terms of safety, mileage and build quality. The vehicle gives off a vibe of elegance which is seldom found in the segment where most of the contenders try making the vehicle bigger and boxier. It does lack in the performance department with its CVT but is overall a good vehicle that can be driven for fun while prioritizing comfort.
