Overview

The coupe versions of their respective sedans have comparatively lesser popularity among the American crowd. However, the Infiniti Q60 is an attractive entry-level luxury coupe and is also equipped with a potent V6 engine. It has a comfortable ride and a very stylish exterior design that makes it stand out in the segment. Just about when things start to look promising, its dated and cramped interior ruins the show.

Buying Advice

The most attractive trim is the mid-range Luxe trim. Not only does it add some more features to the ones existing in the Pure trim but it also becomes eligible to avail some exciting additional packages. Furthermore, it is $13,000 cheaper than the flagship trim Red Sport 400.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

For the 2020 model year, Infiniti has updated the infotainment system and made Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available across the trims. Available in both RWD and AWD drivetrain configurations, the 2020 Q60 comes in three trim levels with a base price of $41,350. The 2020 Infiniti Q60 rivals the likes of the Audi A5, Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe, and BMW 4 Series in the compact coupe segment.

Features
6.0/10

The 2020 Infiniti Q60 is available in three trims which are 3.0t Pure, 3.0t Luxe and Red Sport 400. The Pure is the base trim and it comes with 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, 8-way power-adjustable front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, leatherette seat upholstery, dual-touchscreen infotainment system, 6-speaker audio system, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto integration.

Moving on to the Luxe will cost you $45,500. It gets you a sunroof, 13-speaker Bose audio system, and a few additional driver aids. Opting for the Luxe also unlocks a few additional packages which are not available on the Pure trim. The Essential package will fetch you a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, memory settings for the driver’s seat, remote ignition, Wi-Fi hotspot compatibility, and also a navigation system.

Another package available is the Leather Seating package. As the name suggests, it adds a premium quality leather upholstery. The ProAssist package will get you front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, reverse automatic braking, etc. A newly added package the Edition 30 will get you all the features in the Essential and ProAssist packages along with adaptive cruise control and also unique exterior and interior trims.

Fuel Economy
4.0/10

The 2020 Infiniti Q60 is available in both RWD and AWD configurations. The fuel economy provided by the base V6 engine with the RWD is mentioned in the table below. The AWD drivetrain drops the figures by 1 mpg. The RWD does 22 mpg (combined) while the AWD manages 21 mpg (combined). The Red Sport 400 is fitted with a more powerful variant of the same engine. This, however, does not affect its mileage. A large 20-gallon fuel tank puts its driving range well over 560 miles on the highway.

The fuel efficiency provided by the Q60 is the worst in its class. The best-in-class fuel economy is found in the 2020 Audi A5 coupe and 2020 BMW 4-Series coupe. They both share a combined fuel efficiency of 27 mpg (combined). Despite its comparatively low fuel economy, the 2020 Infiniti Q60 provides the best-in-class range thanks to its 20-gallon fuel tank. It can go up to a distance of 440 miles (combined) which saves it from being a complete loser in this category.

Interior
6.0/10

The only place to be inside the 2020 Infiniti Q60, is the driver’s seat. It is not designed for passenger comfort. Its performance-oriented nature makes the cabin experience subpar at best. The dashboard and center console have been designed elegantly. It features an eye-catching dual-touchscreen display and some well-labeled buttons and knobs placed below.

The seats are performance bucket seats which are leatherette upholstered in the lower trims, whereas the Red Sport 400 gets premium quality leather upholstery. Leatherette trims are also seen on the dashboard door panels, etc and you’ll also see a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. The front seats are spacious but the space is confined in the rear seats.

Compared to the front row, the rear row has less headroom and legroom which is not well-suited for tall adults. The front seats are 8-way power adjustable and functions like heating and memory settings are available only on higher trims or as a part of additional packages. Opting for the Edition 30 package gets you unique interior styling. At the rear, you get 8.7 cu-ft of cargo space.

The 2020 Infiniti Q60 has one of the worst cargo spaces ever seen in a car’s trunk. It offers only 8.7 cubic feet of cargo space which is barely anything. It is quite obvious that all of its rivals provide better storage space in their respective trunks. The 2020 BMW 4-Series has the best space in the segment. It can hold up to 15.7 cubic feet of space which is almost double that of the Q60. Cabin space is pretty much the same in all the coupes in this comparison. Standout interior features in the 2020 INFINITI Q60 are:

  • 8-way power driver seat w/power lumbar support, driver power torso bolsters, and memory seating
  • Driver and Passenger Power Rear Seat Easy Entry
  • Full Folding Bench Fold Forward Rear Seat
  • Semi-Aniline Leather-Appointed Seating
  • Leatherette Upholstered Dashboard and Door Trim Insert with Carbon Fiber inlays and Chrome/Aluminum Interior Accents
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Power Tilt/Telescoping Steering Column w/Auto Tilt-Away Leather Steering Wheel
  • Memory Settings for Door Mirrors and Steering Wheel

What’s there to keep you entertained?

The 2020 Infiniti Q60 features an unusual and rare dual-touchscreen display as its infotainment system. The upper screen is an 8-inch display while the lower is a 7-inch display. They are powered by Infiniti’s INTOUCH technology that includes a generous list of features. The system is intuitive with a user-friendly interface and good screen resolution. The buttons and knobs used to help you browse through the functions are small in size but well-labeled.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration are now standard on all trims. Satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, 2 USB ports are some more standard features seen across all trims. The base trim is fitted with a 6-speaker audio system while the Luxe and Red Sport 400 get a 13-speaker Bose audio system of premium sound quality. Standout infotainment features in the 2020 INFINITI Q60 are:

  • 8.0-inch touchscreen HD infotainment system
  • Bluetooth
  • Satellite radio
  • Voice recognition
  • SiriusXM Traffic
  • 13-speaker Bose Centerpoint Surround audio system (Luxe and Red Sport 400)
  • HD radio (Luxe and Red Sport 400)
  • Wi-Fi Hotspot compatibility (Luxe and Red Sport 400)
  • Navigation system (optional)

Exterior
8.0/10

There’s no doubt that the 2020 Infiniti Q60 is a looker. It has an unusual exterior styling and shape which is somewhere between that of a sedan and a coupe. Apart from its out-of-the-box shape, the aggressive and sporty features make it one of the most attractive coupes in the segment. The front side of the car is characterized by a sloping hood, a trapezoidal grille with the Infiniti logo in the middle, sleek and aggressive projector-beam LED daytime running headlamps, LED fog lamps, etc.

The side of the car is probably the most attractive profile of the car. It is when you notice the body lines, the aerodynamic coupe design, and a dramatically sloping roofline. It also features 19-inch aluminum wheels, heated power adjusting manual-folding side-view mirrors, 4.9-inch ground clearance. The sloping roofline sets the tone for a beautifully designed rear end. It all starts with uniquely shaped LED taillights. A cheeky rear lip spoiler, body-colored rear bumper with air dams, and circular chrome-tipped dual exhausts complete the rear fascia of the 2020 Infiniti Q60.

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe has the lowest ground clearance in the segment. it is just 3.5 inches off the ground which although provides a very sporty stance, raises practicality issues. It is also the lightest coupe in this class, weighing 3527 pounds. The 2020 Infiniti Q60 however, has the longest wheelbase among its rivals which translates to better interior space but its cargo space takes a hit. Standout exterior features are:

  • Automatic projector-beam LED daytime running headlamps
  • LED fog lamps and tail lights
  • Power Heated Auto Dimming Side Mirrors w/Tilt Down and Turn Signal Indicator
  • Rear lip spoiler
  • Chrome Grille and Side Windows Trim
  • Express Open/Close Sliding And Tilting Glass First Row Sunroof w/Sunshade
  • 19-inch aluminum-alloy machine finish sport wheels w/gloss black pockets

Safety
9.0/10

Unfortunately, the 2020 Infiniti Q60 has been crash-tested by any of the federal authorities. To give you a small insight, its sedan version of the Q50 has been tested in some aspects. It earned a 4-star rating in some tests held by the NHTSA and the IIHS scored it “Good” in some of its categories as well.

Also, Infiniti is not as generous as its German rivals when it comes to the amount of standard safety and driver-assist features. It still does not offer automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring system as standard in its lower trim whereas most of its rivals do. Only the top-tier trim, Red Sport 400 is well-equipped with features like adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist. Standout safety features are:

  • Cruise control
  • Electronic stability control
  • Driveline traction control and ABS
  • Tire pressure monitoring system
  • Front and rear parking sensors (optional)
  • Forward collision warning (optional)
  • Blind-spot monitoring system (optional)
  • 360-degree camera system (optional)

Competition
7.0/10

2020 Infiniti Q60 vs 2020 Audi A5 Coupe

The 2020 Audi A5 is one of the better-known coupes in the American market. It is popular for its German engineering and its luxuriously well-appointed interior. The A5 coupe is the most closely matched rival of the 2020 Infiniti Q60 in terms of price point. The A5 has better safety scores, is better equipped with safety features than the Q60, and has a class-leading fuel economy. It also has one of the segment's best handling, which makes the 2020 Audi A5 coupe a highly desirable car.

2020 Infiniti Q60 vs 2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe

Among the 2020 Infiniti Q60’s rivals, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe has the most expensive base price. However, it has a high reputation and popularity because of its reliability, enthusiastic behind-the-wheel experience, and comfortable and luxurious interior. Despite the Q60’s power figures, the Merc offers a more calm and composed ride with better fuel economy. Besides being affordable and having attractive exterior styling, the Q60 doesn’t have a lot going for it against the Merc.

2020 Infiniti Q60 vs 2020 BMW 4-Series

Brand value is what the German giants bring to the table. This is quite unmatched by the less popular Infiniti. The 2020 BMW 4-Series is the sportiest among the 2020 Infiniti Q60’s rivals. It offers a class-leading fuel economy just like the A5. Its interior and cabin experience is much better than the Q60. For the price point, the BMW also offers more standard features than the Q60, which makes it a better value-for-money deal. It has the best trunk space to store your luggage. The 4-Series is clearly the better coupe.

Final Verdict
7.8/10

Infiniti has made a genuine effort to think out-of-the-box when they introduced the Q60 to American buyers. It has definitely captured our attention when it comes to looks but as far as the performance, handling, and interior go, it is better to consider the Germans. It is outperformed in categories like fuel economy, interior space, and quality, storage capacity, safety scores, etc. The new Infiniti Q60 is the most affordable coupe in the segment but by spending just a little more, you’ll be getting a much better deal by opting for one of its German rivals.
