Engine and Performance
5.0/10

The 2022 Acura ILX comes with the old 2.4L inline 4 engine that makes 201 horsepower and 180 lb.-ft of torque. The sedan features FWD with an 8-speed Auto-shift Manual transmission. Honda’s VTEC engine is known to deliver the best of its power output at over 4,000 rpm. Similarly, with the ILX, the gearbox tries to compensate for the low-down torque but fails to do so. The performance would have vastly improved if a turbocharged powertrain was there under the hood. However, the gear shifting is smooth and quick. The car reaches 60 MPH from a standstill in 6.6 seconds, while it has a quarter mile timing of 15.2 seconds.

The 2022 Acura ILX offers a better power delivery at 201 horsepower as compared to the Honda Civic, the Mazda 3 and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. The ILX reaches 60 MPH quicker than the Honda Civic. Furthermore, it also leads the Civic in the quarter mile timing. The quickest acceleration among the four is provided by the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. The ILX has a top speed of 130 MPH which is at par with the sedans of this segment.

2022 Acura ILX Ride and Handling

As the ILX inherits some of the characteristics of the 9th-generation Civic, it is a decent all-rounder. The suspension of the 2022 Acura ILX which includes a Strut Front Suspension w/Coil Springs and a Multi-Link Rear Suspension w/Coil Springs, is aptly tuned to provide a comfortable ride to the occupants. However, it doesn’t deliver a drive as a sports car does. The car absorbs the bumps and potholes effectively. The sedan has a moderate amount of body roll to offer but maintains a composed ride throughout due to Front And Rear Anti-Roll Bars. The cabin gets significant outside noises due to the poor insulation.

2022 Acura ILX Braking Performance

The 2022 Acura ILX comes with disc brakes on all four wheels. Depending on the nature of driving, the brake pads last about 40,000 miles. It comes with 12.3 in and 11.21 inch brake rotors in front and back respectively. Under normal conditions and during emergencies, the brakes provide sufficient bite and are easy to modulate. The brake pedal feels soft and responsive. The sedan comes with additional features like Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) on all 4 wheels, Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) system, and Collision mitigation braking.

The ILX is lighter than the Mazda 3 and the A-Class, which contributes to its decreased momentum during a drive. Among the Mazda 3 and the A-Class, the 3 has a shorter stopping distance while cruising at 60 MPH as compared to the rival. The data for the Acura ILX and the Honda Civic is yet to be determined.

Fuel Economy
5.0/10

With its 2.4L Inline 4 engine, the 2022 ILX offers a fuel economy of 24 MPG in a city, 34 MPG on a highway, and 28 MPG combined. This remains similar for all the additional packages available with the car. The fuel efficiency numbers are similar to the more powerful 228i Gran Coupe. The fuel required is Premium unleaded gasoline. The car has an enormous 13.2 gallons tank. It is estimated that the car can travel up to 316.8 miles in a city and 500 miles on a highway with a full tank.

The Acura ILX comes with the same fuel capacity as the Mazda 3. It is more than that of the Honda Civic but is slightly less than what the A-Class offers. The Acura ILX offers the worst range of travel among the four rivals, while the Civic offers the best, both in a city and on a highway.

Interior
6.0/10

The 2022 Acura ILX is not an appealing one and comes with a conventional layout. The front provides decent room, but the rear feels cramped. The visibility is sufficient, and the seats are high positioned. They come with a standard power adjustable feature with the car. The interior has some silver and chrome finishes that add a pop of color; however, a striking interior cabin can only be achieved with the Premium or A-Spec Packages. It is possible to get Premium leather upholstery in Graystone instead of just in Ebony, as well as Espresso - but that can only be used with Platinum White, Modern Steel, or Majestic Black. There is no Espresso option with the A-Spec. The default is Ebony, with an option of Red and Ultrasuede trimming in place of Graystone.

The 2022 Honda Civic is less expensive than the Acura ILX. It comes with a CVT option and offers better fuel economy than the rival. The Civil also provides a better range of travel in a city and on a highway. On the other hand, the Acura ILX comes with a manual transmission. The ILX has better power delivery than the Civic. It also has a more torque output. With quicker acceleration, the ILX reaches 60 MPH and a quarter mile in less time. Both cars look sporty on the exterior, but the Civic leads with a more appealing interior.

2022 Acura ILX vs 2022 Mazda 3

The Mazda 3 comes with a bigger engine than the ILX. It has a better torque output and a quicker acceleration in terms of the 0-60 MPH mark and the quarter mile timing. The Mazda 3 is also more fuel efficient than its rival. For the same reason, the 3 offers a better range of travel in a city and on a highway. On the other hand, the ILX comes with better power output. The exterior of the ILX also looks sportier with its diamond pentagon grille.

2022 Acura ILX vs 2022 Mercedes-Benz A-Class

The 2022 Acura ILX is significantly cheaper than the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. It comes with a manual transmission, while the rival gets an automatic transmission. It has a better power output than the A-Class. On the other hand, the A-Class offers better torque delivery. Both cars offer similar city and combined efficiency. Final Verdict

The 2022 Acura ILX is an affordable sporty sedan. The ride is comfortable and composed for most of the part. However, the suspension setup is not as stiff as a sports car. The Inline 4 engine makes an impressive power and torque output but doesn’t do justice to the fuel efficiency. The interior is substandard with an old-school layout and the exterior of the car looks sporty and aggressive. Also, the 2022 Acura ILX provides a sufficient amount of safety features to protect its passengers . The brand has a dependable image. The best choice would be to go with the Base trim with the Premium Package which comes with additional features like Sport seats with leather upholstery, a Premium sound system, etc.
