Overview

A simple yet modern-looking SUV from Mitsubishi, the Eclipse Cross is a fun-to-drive vehicle. Seating between the evasive Outlander and cute Sport tries to accommodate the congested segment. A confident style ready to compete with its classmates shows an adequate monarch. Born in 2018, maintains the same turbocharged 1.5L engine that spills out 152 horsepower– some of its rivals offer more power and delightful performance. A composed ride with a serene cabin. The car is easily spacious to shelter a family of four members. Decent looking infotainment system admires commands. Even with the offerings, it still falls behind its competitors–with dull fuel economy.

Buying Advice

CARHP advice on choosing the SE trim. It has way more things to offer above the ES and LE. Auto-dimming rearview mirror, dual-zone climate control, leather-wrapped steering column, eight-way power adjustable driver seat, and keyless entry are such factors to consider a proper balance of value and features.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Concerned about this year, Mitsubishi has devised all models with an all-wheel drive (AWD) drivetrain. It comes also equipped with a new 18-inch wheel design approach. Standard LED headlights and foglights. Body-themed lower trim on the top-spec SEL and SE trims inculcates silver-color embellishments on the front bumper. Ahead of that, there might be some improvement in existing tech features and functions. The car competes against the Mazda CX-30, the Chevrolet Equinox, and the Ford Escape.

Features

The newest Eclipse Cross trims are a total of four in number. The base is called ES. Above that LE joins the team. The SE is the most demanding model, while the SEL is the top spec. All models contain a turbocharged 1.5L engine with an all-wheel drive drivetrain by default. Four speaker audio system, cruise control, and automatic emergency braking.

Ford Escape pays off the price tag of being the most expensive vehicle by ensuring class-leading mileage numbers. Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross mpg numbers are better in the city and combined than Mazda CX-30. Chevy Equinox and the Escape carry equal fuel capacity (highest of all), thanks to bigger mpg figures, the Escapes rule over everyone to derive the best miles of range. Mazda CX-30 has the lowest fuel capacity.

Interior
8.6/10

The Interior is attractive. With the price it provides, the cabin material, and the layout suit. The elements used inside are neither supremely premium nor absolute poor. Eclipse opens arms sufficiently wide to let the people in without facing such an issue. Second-row door panels help keep gently with window controls. Front door panels also serve the same functionality, with seat adjustments. For the base trim, the cabin only supposes a single interior shade. The front and rear seats are not relaxing on basic trim. Things get better with the LE or SE trim levels where driver seats are equipped with heated front seats by default. Seats are promising for long drives–the heated steering wheel function optional on the SEL trim.

The dashboard layout seems busy. A standard 7-inch infotainment touchscreen sits at the center with two AC stuck underneath. The material quality of the dash feels solid with hard-touch plastic material. Total four AC vents. The steering column is not suited with leather wrapping unless you opt for the senior trims. Though, it is manually tilted and telescopic by default. Controls embedded in it are mainly in black accents. Little chrome traces on the dash. The center console acquires a normal size armrest with storage space. Thick chrome cladding surrounds it well and gains a bit of a modern look. The gear selector, rotary knob, and some control occupy the center console area.

It is visible that the Ford Escape showers the most spacious interior. It also impresses shoppers with its most cargo-carrying capacity in the segment. The rear seats of the Eclipse cross are highly congested when compared to rivals–they serve the least room to extend legs. The Cargo carrying capacity of Eclipse Cross tells it is scoring more marks than that of Mazda CX-30. Though the Mazda is good at passenger space in its front and second rows.

Highlights of the interior–

  • 6-way driver and 4-way manually adjustable passenger seat
  • 60-40 folding second-row seat
  • Manual tilt and telescopic steering column
  • Power rear windows with fixed third-row windows

How intuitive is the 2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross infotainment system?

All the models come with an infotainment touchscreen system. Though, size matters with the trims one is looking for. The base ES carries a 7-inch touchscreen display but here’s a catch it is not equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The remaining three trims come with an 8-inch display and bless the connection to integrate your iPhone or Android device. In-dash navigation system. Both of the screens are not highly bright or intuitive as other manufacturers of the segment. Other physical controls are under reach and easily accessible. 4-speaker audio system.

Salient features of the infotainment system–

  • FM Radio
  • 7-inch display
  • The 8-inch display on LE, SE, and SEL
  • 4-speaker audio system
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Steering wheel controls
  • Speed-compensated volume control
  • Radio data system
  • Automatic equalizer
  • Integrated roof antenna
  • One LCD monitor in front

Exterior
8.6/10

No matter if the car gains good features, its external appearance scores full marks. It is a cute and compact-looking SUV. The front is converged toward the ground and harbors a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Two small lifted lines on the bonnet do not add value but look good. The sharp daytime LED lights with rounded LED headlights on either side. An all-black front grille gains a chrome Mitsubishi logo at the center. The front spoiler provides some fashionable elements with parking sensors mounted along. The side profile is minimal. The door handles are colored in the same clear-coated paint. It can be themed into four shades, we prefer its Labrador Black Pearl pallet which gives it a persona of a high-end performance SUV. Standard 16-inch wheels play around tires of proportion P215/45HR16. Door handles are in dual tone. Chrome surrounding window and door panels with SE and SEL. All-black roof rails. The rear end is straightforward. LED taillights that cling to the rear glass shield. Brake lights. Mitsubishi logo with Eclipse Cross written below. No visible exhaust tips.

Competition

2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross vs. 2023 Chevy Equinox

Chevy is extra hundred dollars costly but conveys a longer wheelbase and a lighter body. Mitsubishi brings an all-wheel drive system, while the Equinox has rear-wheel drive. The Interior layout of Eclipse cross is better, but we liked the infotainment touchscreen on the Chevy Equinox. Mitsubishi sedans have 16-inch wheels by default, while the Equinox steers with 17-inch wheels. Chevy also offers more power and top speed.

2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross vs. 2023 Mazda CX-30

Mazda is affordable and way good-looking from the inside. Despite its lower fuel capacity, it is also a more efficient vehicle on the highways. Eclipse is longer, has more wheelbase, and possesses additional ground clearance. Mazda shows an additionally spacious interior for the passenger to sit with enough room. Cargo carrying capacity on Eclipse cross beats Mazda. It also gains more miles of range.

2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross vs. 2023 Ford Escape

Escape is expensive, fast, spacious, and covers a shorter braking distance. It is also an SUV carrying the most efficient engine. Cargo carrying capacity is additional on Escape. The standard model of the Eclipse cross shows a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, while the Escape escaped with a 4.2-inch radio display. Ford provides 17-inch wheels by default while the Cross only runs on the 16-inch wheel with the base model.

Final Verdict

It is an appealing option in the market. Other alternatives are good at delivering the best value for your money. Its composed ride, effective mpg numbers, attractive styling, and generous cargo storage strive to appear genuine. Very few safety features, though it gains a 5-star safety rating. Wish to carry more cargo, the Escape is a better option. Thinks of gaining better mpg, the Mazda CX-30 is there for you. Equinox costs on the same line and brings a better infotainment touchscreen despite an extra spacious cabin.
