... flash will disconnect and back!!! Tried few of those usb/aux to see if the problem was caused by the port, but same issue! Changed the original radio with a different original one, worked well for 2 hrs and same problem existed again! After going deep into the issue, the 5v power was dropping to around 1.2v during acceleration! Checked everything thereRead More

... horrible resale value. Even the Hyundai dealer I bought it from didn't want to work with us to trade it in on a used Elantra. Poor resale value, absolutely bare minimum extras for a top of the line model, very dated styling, almost as if Hyundai went back to the Excel days of the 80's but without the cheap price. Guess she's stuck with this till she hits the break even point with her financing. Makes me think twice before buying aRead More

The Hyundai Accent is a mid-ranking car in the affordable subcompact sedan segment of the car market. It provides the usual low cost that people on a budget would look for, with bare-minimum comfort and performance and exceptional mileage. In short, the overall features offered are only the bare minimum required in every sector. Officially, the sedan has only 35 complaints. Most of these include the airbags not deploying, which is a major safety concern.

The 2017 Hyundai Accent competes with the usual competitors in the segment like the Kia Rio, the Chevrolet Sonic, and the Ford Fiesta. Popular Youtube channel "AutoMotive" shares their insights on what to look out for when buying a 2017 Accent. Let’s see how reliable the Hyundai car actually is and whether or not it is worth purchasing over its competition. Check out the video below and read ahead to see if the Accent fits your bill.

Key observations in the video:

  • Axle CV joint boots go bad
  • Cheap headlight housing
  • Brake rotors going bad prematurely
  • Jittery ride quality
  • Carbon buildup and oil burning with the 1.6L engine

User Complaints and Problems for the 2017 Hyundai Accent

Mechanical Problems

  • Engine an array of issues -. The engine seems to have plenty of issues in various forms. For starters, users have stated that they could hear noises from the engine. For one particular user, there was a pop sound and the engine caught on fire. The engine has also stalled for multiple users at various times. Complainants have also reported that the engine utilizes a lot of oil, beyond what is considered normal. Most of the issues were not helped by the dealership in any form.
  • Brakes making noises and being ineffective -. The brakes, when applied, seem to make a weird noise like the brakes are being dragged, or something similar. Multiple users have stated this complaint. For one user, the brake pedal would compress all the way to the floor and still fail to brake. The dealership was able to fix the brake failure, but the issue would recur over and over again for the user, and can’t seem to find a lasting solution. The user has stated this should be a part of the 2017 Hyundai Accent recalls.
  • Powertrain failure- A few of the users have stated that their vehicle would lose power for a while, when in operation, and would come back on. This issue was reported to the dealership by a couple of users but received no solution for this matter.

Electrical Problems

  • Electrical malfunction in the dashboard lights- For various users, the dashboard warning lights would go haywire, coming on and off at various times. Alongside, the gas gauge would also not show accurate information, causing great concern to the drivers and the occupants. There have also been cases when the brake lights wouldn’t work at all

Safety Problems

  • Airbags and their sensors failed - The majority of the 2017 Hyundai accent issues seem to stem from the airbags. The users would, unfortunately, get into an accident that is severe enough for the airbag to be called into action but has failed to deploy. There were no pre-indications either about the airbags not functioning, as the airbag failure lights did not go off. There were also some users who stated that they had the airbag sensors failing, as the airbag warning lights would come on under false pretenses. The dealership was able to fix the sensory failure issue.

Exterior Problems

  • Front and rear bumpers falling apart- Users had to face the issue of their bumpers, either the front or the rear, falling while the vehicle was in motion. No further information was provided.

Miscellaneous Problems

  • Vehicle fire- For one user, the vehicle caught on fire spontaneously. The user was, at that time, not near the vehicle to provide any diagnostic information. The dealership was informed that further proceedings are yet to be indicated in the complaints.
  • Weird noises- Various users have stated that their vehicle would make “ticking noises”, usually from under the vehicle, but an accurate source is not provided by the users. Those who went to the dealership did not receive help, as the problem could not be replicated.

Should you buy the 2017 Hyundai Accent

The 2017 Hyundai Accent seems to be a decent vehicle. It has a 4-star rating on safety in the NHTSA and very few complaints about it. However, the complaints about the airbags can be dangerous. So, if you do plan to purchase a 2017 Accent make sure your airbags are fine and that all the wiring is alright as well. The vehicle is perfect for anyone who is looking for low-cost ownership. Although, the 2017 Chevrolet Sonic is a good choice of a sedan as well. Ranked higher than the 2017 Accent, it has a better safety rating. Not to mention, the superior cabin quality, performance, handling, and other arrays of standard features.
