Overview

The 2013 Honda CR-V is an excellent choice for shoppers looking for a dependable compact SUV with good fuel economy, reasonable pricing, and a lot of standard equipment. Coming off a complete redesign just last year, the 2013 CR-V carries over mostly unchanged. The 5-passenger CR-V's dimensions are modest but Honda's clever packaging offers ample interior room and class-leading cargo space. The Honda CR-V is available for sale in three trim levels: LX, EX, and leather-appointed EX-L. Every model uses a fuel-efficient 185 horsepower 2.4-liter I-4 engine with a standard front-wheel drive. Honda does offer an option for four-wheel drive, making the compact crossover tackle mud and snow efficiently. The 2013 CR-V's handling is remarkably sporty but its five-speed automatic transmission is geared for efficiency.

2013 Honda CR-V Buying Advice

The Honda CR-V's fourth-generation spans from 2012 through 2016, with the 2017 model getting a full redesign again. Since the 2013 model received no change, you may get essentially the same vehicle for less money if you opt for the 2012 model. Also, check out the 2015 model which replaced the traditional automatic with a CVT - better mpg ratings than older models.

The 2013 Honda CR-V is one of the toughest products in Honda's lineup. It undeniably is an exciting SUV that offers the versatility, high safety, and comfort that SUV drivers need. A car that is driven for more than just one season and buyers should expect to see amazing gas mileage in this one. The CR-V was engineered with the most advanced and high-quality materials in every aspect. The top competitors of the 2013 Honda CR-V compact crossover include Nissan Rogue, Kia Sportage, and Ford Escape. Still, the Honda CR-V's repair history and high re-sale value continue to propel its long-term sales in the States.

2013 Honda CR-V for sale

The 2013 Honda CR-V LX 2WD starts at an MSRP of around $22,795 which will satisfy most shoppers' needs. The more popular choice for used compact SUV buyers is the mid-level EX which starts around $24,895. Moreover, the 2013 CR-V EX's average price is lower than what you will pay for a new compact SUV.

Buying Advice

As all trims come equipped with a long list of standard features, we recommend opting for the EX trim with all-wheel drive. This trim has all the features and an upgraded infotainment and safety stuff too. In addition, if you want to explore all Honda has to offer, the EX-L trim would be ideal.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2013 Honda CR-V is a great compact SUV for those who want performance and reliability in an affordable car. With a standard four-cylinder engine, this Honda's compact SUV provides sufficient power for daily driving needs and hauling the family's cargo. It faces off against other prominent crossovers like the Ford Escape, Kia Sportage, and Nissan Rogue.

The 2013 Honda CR-V must be on the shopper's list if you are in the market for a used SUV. Highly rated, the fourth-generation models have a strong repair history and high resale value. The 2013 model had one recall for a brake shift interlock that may fail and allow the SUV to shift out of park without applying the brake. Moreover, the CR-V's above-average reliability ratings and perfect safety score add more value to the deal.

There is no difference between the Honda CR-V and Ford Escape's fuel tank sizes, both of which hold 15 gallons of regular unleaded gasoline. On the other hand, the Nissan Rogue has the best range of all the vehicles in its class, covering roughly 400 miles in mixed driving conditions.

Interior
8.0/10

The 2013 Honda CR-V is one of the most accommodating SUVs in the class, thanks to its spacious interior, comfortable seating, and class-leading cargo dimensions. The five-seat CR-V's cabin offers supportive front seats as well as spacious rear seats that are good for almost every adult along with 37.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats. With rear seats folded, the CR-V offers 70.9 cubic feet of cargo, which is above-average in the class.

The long list of interior features in the 2013 CR-V further adds value in making it a top-rated car in the segment. The base LX and EX trim sports cloth upholstery and a manually-adjustable driver's seat, while the EX-L adds leather, along with heated and power-adjustment features.

The standard interior features include an array of amenities like cruise control, automatic climate control, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel with remote controls for audio and temperature, power windows and door locks, adjustable front driver's seat height, and a rear fold-down seat that make every ride smooth and relaxing.

Exterior
7.0/10

After the complete redesign last year, the 2013 Honda CR-V looks more elegant and refined than before. Though the new CR-V model has similar dimensions to the previous generation, it looks larger than before. The conservative styling is very similar to that of the previous generation, but the new model is more aerodynamic. It has a steeply-raked windshield and lower roofline than before. The halogen headlamps work fine, but Honda's three-slat grille is the ultimate sign of Honda's style. The base LX model comes equipped with 16-inch steel wheels and 215/70 all-season tires. For bigger 17-inch alloy wheels paired with 225/65 tires, opt for the EX or EX-L variants.

The CR-V's dimensions allow the compact crossover SUV to offer comfortable seating for five people, as well as 39.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back seat. The 2013 model is 14.9 feet long with a curb weight ranging from 3,305 pounds to 3,545 pounds depending on the trim and configuration. The right size for busy lifestyles, the 2013 Honda CR-V has an aerodynamic shape that looks sleeker and smarter.

The Kia Sportage is without a doubt the most compact car among the four cars in this group, whereas the others are much longer and wider, which makes them heavier. The ground clearance is highest in the Kia Sportage and lowest in the Honda CR-V. The Nissan Rogue is the longest car here and also features the longest wheelbase.

Few major exterior features include-

  • Multi-reflector halogen headlamps w/auto-on/off
  • Full-length tail lights
  • Powered and heated exterior mirrors
  • Heat-rejecting green-tinted windshield glass
  • Rear privacy glass
  • Roof rails
  • 17-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels w/all season tires

Safety
9.0/10

The 2013 Honda CR-V earned a perfect five-star safety rating in the frontal and side crash tests, as well as four out of five stars in the rollover test, conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Also, the CR-V received a 2013 Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The 2013 CR-V LX comes with a rearview camera, antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, active front head restraints, front side airbags, and side curtain airbags. Additionally, higher 2013 CR-V models come with advanced safety tech and driver-assistance features. Other notable safety features include:

  • Brake Assist
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Cruise control
  • Child Safety Locks
  • Traction Control
  • Available Blind Spot Monitor
  • Auto-Leveling Headlights
  • Tire pressure monitoring system

Competition
6.0/10

2013 Honda CR-V Vs. 2013 Ford Escape

Both the Honda and the Ford are the highest selling cars in the segment and both justify their price well. The crossovers are well-endowed with features and look great. The Honda provides a lot of reliability and a very comfortable interior. It offers a spacious cabin that is bigger than the Escape’s while also carrying more load in the cargo space.

The Honda has a more powerful engine but the Escape posts quicker times. The Honda CR-V packs a lot more when compared to the Escape and is a better overall package.

2013 Honda CR-V Vs. 2013 Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage and the Honda CR-V are the most VFM propositions in the segment but have different approaches. The CR-V takes a very reliable and sophisticated approach with a comfortable interior and a super-refined engine.

The 2013 CR-V is more powerful and fuel-efficient than the Sportage as well. The Sportage does take away some brownie points in cabin space but is annihilated by how well the CR-V packages itself.

2013 Honda CR-V Vs. 2013 Nissan Rogue

Both the Honda CR-V and the Nissan Rogue are fierce competitors with very similar setups inside. The only difference here remains that the latter uses a 5-speed automatic gearbox while the former utilizes a CVT for better fuel economy.

The Rogue remains quicker on its feet with a slight advantage in the timings and is also more fuel-efficient. It is also more spacious and has a bigger boot. The CR-V gains a lot when it comes to reliability and driving experience with a near-perfect suspension setup and a potent engine under its hood.

Final Verdict

The Honda CR-V continues to be one of the fastest-selling compact SUVs. It's a highly refined, well-rounded compact SUV with excellent fuel economy and versatility. It offers good comfort, features, and performance for a reasonable price. It's bigger, safer, more refined, physically comfortable, and roomier than before, with the same stellar fuel efficiency. The 2013 model is a bit more refined but remains equally capable off-road. All in all, it is one of the most pleasant vehicles to drive in the segment.
