Overview

The 2013 BMW X3 comes with certain changes as compared to the previous model year. The BMW X3 2013 price starts at $38,850 and an additional destination charge of $895 is levied on the base price of both the trim configurations. BMW has finally replaced the inline-six engine with a new 2.0-liter inline-four turbo engine in the base xDrive28i model. Also, some features like start/stop technology and power liftgate are standard. The previously optional Driving Dynamics Control feature is now standard and adds Eco Pro mode. A driver-assistance feature like the lane-departure warning is also available.

Featuring a 2-trim lineup of xDrive28i and xDrive35i, the 2013 BMW X3 MSRP can be an expense of $39,745-$44,845 this season. Having said that, it simply translates to the fact that the range-leader 2013 X3 xDrive35i will cost you $5,100 more than the base xDrive28i for enhanced specs and assets.

We Recommend

Considering the specification and features, we would pick the top-tier 2013 BMW xDrive35i trim for the additional performance.

The 2013 BMW X3 engine is all new for the xDrive28i trim. Replacing the older six-cylinder engine is the new 2.0-liter inline-four turbo engine with 240 horsepower. The bigger 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine offers 300 horsepower on tap. The standard engine is quite frugal and the 2013 BMW X3 mpg of 24 mpg in combined conditions is impressive, considering the 0-60 time of 6.5 seconds. As per the 2013 BMW X3 consumer reports compiled by J.D. Power, the 3-Series crossover scores 80/100. The X3 2013 offers better performance than the Volvo XC60, better gas mileage than the Audi Q5 and better dimensions than the Mercedes-Benz GLK Class.

2013 BMW X3 for sale

The 2014 BMW X3 xDrive28i can be leased for a term of 36 months and $536/month. The amount due is $3,975 and the annual mileage is limited to 10,000 miles. The same model can also be financed for as low as 2.99% APR for a term of 60 months and $678/month. The down payment amount is $3,975. The final APR will depend on the credit score profile.

For budget-oriented buyers, the used 2013 BMW X3 can be availed of with a base price of $5,900. Going for older model years like the 2012 BMW X3 could be a matter of $6,750 and BMW X3 2011 can cost as much as $6,989 along with a listing of up to 5,653 in total.

Buying Advice

The top of the line 2013 BMW X3 xDrive35i is the trim that you should pick if you have no limit on the budget. This trim gets all the features and bells and whistles expected at this price point. However, for those who are tight on the budget, the base trim with the new 2.0L turbocharged engine makes more sense.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

With the 2013 update, the car now gets a new turbocharged engine for the base trim while some other changes too have been made to the vehicle. The car, which is in its second generation, made its debut in the year 2011. The car gives strong competition to the rivals like the Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, and the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class. Having said this, how good is the 2013 BMW X3? Let’s find out.

Engine and Performance
8.0/10

As standard, the 2013 BMW X3 comes with a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine. This all-new four-cylinder engine makes its appearance in the X3 range for the first time. The peak power and torque output from this engine stand at 240 hp and 260 lb-ft. The higher trim on the other hand gets a bigger 3.0L inline-6 engine. Both these engines are available only with AWD options. These engines come mated to an automatic gearbox which is quick and effortless with the shifts.

The NVH levels of the larger 3.0L engine are impressive and one of the best in the class. The new 2.0L engine however is a bit noisy at refinement and the NVH levels to are not the best. The new engine however boasts high fuel economy and the performance too is great. Both these engines have a strong low end and are extremely driveable, even at slow city speeds. It can sprint from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and can complete a quarter-mile run in 14.8 seconds.
