Overview
Competing in the subcompact SUV. Since there is no direct competition for the X1, the 2013 BMW X1 SUV goes up against other more affordable SUVs in the class, like the Ford Escape Titanium and the Mazda CX-3. Spread across 3 trims, the BMW X1 starts off at a base price of MSRP $30,900 and carries on to $38,800. Not all trims are built equal, however, as there are 2 powertrains on offer. Starting off is the 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 engine and 8-speed automatic transmission. Making 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, this engine makes the X1 capable of accelerating from a standstill to 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds and carries the capability to tow 3,968 pounds. One can also opt for a bigger 3.0L turbocharged inline-6 engine that is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. With 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, this engine can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds.
