Coming to other areas, the interior is well-designed but the built quality is not that high. The exterior design is simple and boxy. The number of safety measures is also very less.
It is better if you choose the mid-range Latitude trim. It has more features as compared to the base trim and you don’t have to pay as high as the Limited trim. Therefore, this way not only do you get the Compass at a reasonable price but also you can enjoy holidays with the saved money.
That said, the starting price tag of the Jeep Compass is $19,495 and it can go up to $26,395. The entire trim range is available in standard FWD. With the base engine, Compass churns out a healthy 158 horsepower. The Jeep Compass has cut-throat competition with the Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX-5, and Mitsubishi Outlander Sport.
Three trim levels are offered on the 2013 Jeep Compass. The base trim has a starting price of $19,495 with the FWD and with 4WD it goes up to $21,395. It adds features like 16-inch cast-aluminum wheels, manual air conditioning, a tilt steering wheel, and a 4-speaker sound system with a CD player. Once you move up, on the Latitude trim, heated seats are given along with the reclining rear seats to comfort you. The top of the range Limited trim consists of leather upholstery, 18-inch wheels, 6-way power driver seat, SiriusXM, automatic climate control system, and more.

There are two engines offered on the 2013 Jeep Compass. A 2.0-liter naturally aspirated inline-4 engine is found under Sports and Latitude trims. This engine has default 5-speed manual transmission on the base trim and power gets transferred to front wheels which can be directed to all wheels under optional 4WD. A CVT transmission is given on higher trim levels. The base engine churns out 158 hp and 141 lb-ft of torque.
With the above arrangement, 2013 Compass does 0-60 mph in 10.5 seconds. Meanwhile, a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine is standard on the top Limited trim and is mated to a CVT transmission. It churns out 172 hp and 165 lb-ft of torque. With this output, Compass reaches 60 mph from standard still in 10.1 seconds. Freedom Drive II off-road group offers an off-road model with 4WD, brake lock differential, hill descent control, engine oil cooler, transmission/engine oil pan skid plate, and more.

While Tucson displays the worst performance when it comes to acceleration, the other crossovers are not very praise-worthy. With the least horsepower, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport finishes 0-60 mph in 9.2 seconds while the CX-5 finishes the same in 0.3 seconds later than Outlander Sport. Overall, there is not much difference in the acceleration among Compass and rivals due to the similar engine and transmission configuration. However, Compass is the slowest in the competition.
With the base 2.0-liter gas engine and manual transmission, the 2013 Compass has a fuel economy of 23 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg combined. If the base engine is paired with the CVT, fuel economy drops by 1/2/2 mpg in the city/highway/combined respectively. The 2.4-liter engine with CVT returns 2/3/2 mpg less in the city/highway/combined as compared to the base engine.

The fuel efficiency of the Compass is decent but not the best in class. The title of the least thirsty car in the competition belongs to the CX-5. Outlander Sport secures the second spot after the CX-5 but it has the biggest fuel tank which results in a better range. Lastly, the least fuel effective car is the Hyundai Tucson.
You can either pick the dark slate gray or light pebble beige as your interior theme in the 201 Jeep Compass. The seats are wrapped with the Premium cloth upholstery which can be upgraded to leather on the top-tier trim. The steering wheel is covered in leather and the seats have good back support. The keyless entry function makes things more comfortable. There is a decent amount of head and legroom in the cabin.
4-way manual adjustment is standard for the base Compass. Driver seat height adjustment and forward-fold-flat passenger seat are given on the Latitude trim. The rear seats can split into a 40-60 pattern which can increase the cargo space from 22.7 cu-ft to 53.6 cu-ft. Amongst the competitors, Outlander Sport is the most confined crossover. The Mazda CX-5 is the roomiest while the Compass and Tucson have nearly the same passenger volume. The exterior design of the Compass can be described as boxy and toned like a bodybuilder. There are no major sharp body lines on the exterior profile which makes it look very sporty but Compass does give the vibes of an off-roading SUV. At the front, halogen headlights, fog lights, and a bulged hood at the center are given.
If you look from the side, there are no interesting elements to note down here. Bright side roof rails are given on the top of the 2013 Compass. Power heated side mirrors with manual folding are standard throughout the trim range. Compass runs on the 16-inch cast-aluminum wheels. However, 17 and 18-inch wheels are also available. The panoramic sunroof is given as the available option under the Sun and Sound group.
