Overview

One of the best-selling cars of all time, the 2017 Toyota Corolla, marks its 50th anniversary. For 2017, there are essentially some major changes to the regular Corolla, including a new trim in the form of an XSE model, and a 50th Anniversary Limited Edition. A new Black cherry paint shade is also available. In addition to the sedan, the Corolla lineup now also features a hatchback. The 2017 Corolla sedan price range from $18,500 up to $21,665, for which it offers ample advanced safety systems.

All these years the compact car has been highly reliable, trouble-free, and a practical ride. The Corolla sedan is powered by a 1.8-liter, I-4 engine rated at 132 hp and 128 lb-ft of torque. Depending on trim level, the engine is mated to a four-speed automatic, a CVT, or a six-speed manual gearbox. The Corolla interior has a fresh styling, a new easy-to-use 7-inch infotainment system, and ample rear room. The Corolla is a little snooze behind the wheel, and that#39;s where the rival sedan such as Honda Civic, Mazda 3, and Hyundai Elantra scores more.

Buying Advice

The Corolla is pretty affordable for any of its variant. Coming to the options it offers, every single variant has its own specialty and comfort levels. You can simply choose one that suits your requirement or budget. As for recommendation if you can afford the SE then save some extra and get the best variant either the XSE or the SE 6MT.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Toyota's one of the top-selling cars, the Corolla is a compact vehicle that slots below the popular Camry sedan. More practical hatchback Corolla iM has been introduced, earlier known as a Scion iM. Owing a 2017 Corolla will incur an estimated $22,070 over five years for Insuring, fueling, maintaining, and repairing. That's average in the compact car class.

For 2017, Toyota Corolla receives a refresh, highlighted by a new sport-focused XSE trim. Also, to celebrate Corolla's 50th anniversary this year, Toyota is releasing a special-edition 50th Anniversary model, which is based on the Corolla SE. Toyota has limited the production of the 50th Anniversary edition to just 8,000 units. More changes to the 2017 Corolla lineup include a new front fascia, revised taillights, and a redesigned dashboard. The Toyota Safety Sense P package including forward collision prevention, adaptive cruise control, a lane-keeping system with a steering assist function, and automatic high beams is added. Finally, a rear-view camera is standard equipment on all trim levels.

The mid-range Toyota Corolla SE trim which begins at $20,065 with the standard CVT brings the best value and sporty attire. It includes alloy wheels, leatherette sport front seats, selectable driving modes (Normal and Sport), a leather-trimmed steering wheel, and a 4.2-inch color instrument cluster display. Interior
8.0/10

"The current Corolla's interior is certainly its nicest one to date, with a stylish dashboard and un-Corolla-like flourishes like a sport-contoured steering wheel and an eye-catching asymmetrical shifter surround.- Edmunds"

2017 Corolla Seating and Comfort

The 2017 Corolla's interior has soft-touch materials and seating for five passengers. The Toyota certainly has the nicest cabin to date, with a stylish dashboard, a sport-contoured steering wheel, and an eye-catching asymmetrical shifter surround. The front seats are comfortable and the SE trim level offers sport seats with lower side bolsters. In the rear, the legroom is excellent but the headroom is a little cramped for tall passengers.

The higher trim levels offer good quality material with available upgrades including leatherette upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.

Exterior
5.0/10

The L, LE, and LE Eco trim gain Bi-LED headlamps, while complex-LED headlamps come standard on SE, XSE, and XLE. Redesigned 16-inch wheels are standard on the LE and XLE, while the SE and XSE step up into standard 17-inch alloy wheels.

Competition
8.0/10

2017 Toyota Corolla vs 2017 Mazda Mazda3

The 2017 Mazda3 is the only car in this competition that offers true sports performance at an affordable price. Unlike Toyota, Mazda 3 sedan has an upscale interior quality and engaging drive.  The Mazda3 Sport starts at $18,095 while the Toyota Corolla starts at $18,500.  Both have the same interior and exterior dimension except for the length.

The Toyota Corolla, on the other hand, has better comfort and is a more convenient family compact car.  If you are looking for engaging driving dynamics in a family car, opt for MAzda 3 hile the Toyota Corolla is one of the most easy-to-live sedans.

2017 Toyota Corolla vs 2017 Hyundai Elantra

The 2017 Hyundai Elantra received a refresh for this model year and provides a good mix of comfortable interior space, great safety ratings, and a spirited drive. Unlike the 2017 Corolla, the Hyundai Elantra has multi-media features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Also, Hyundai has an average starting price of around $2,000 less than the Corolla sedan. Toyota Corolla has excellent advanced safety features as standard, and its predicted reliability is top-rated in the class.

Final Verdict

The 2017 Toyota Corolla is a good compact car. While we don't like the acceleration and handling of the sedan, the Corolla makes up for that with good fuel economy estimates, a quality interior, and a plethora of standard advanced safety features.
