Overview

The 2020 Nissan Murano comes with distinctive styling and comfortable interior. It is one of the most quirky looking mid-size crossover SUVs. It can accommodate up to five passengers. Powered by a 3.5L engine producing 260 hp, the performance is not as brisk as one would expect. However, with a combined fuel economy of 23 MPG and a starting MSRP of $31,730, it makes a strong case for itself.

The 2020 Nissan Murano received minor styling tweaks last year. It provides a comfortable cabin space and offers a cargo capacity of 31 cu-ft. With four trims on offer, namely the S, SV, SL and Platinum, it offers many options for prospective buyers. It’s available in both FWD and AWD configuration, facing competition from the likes of Chevrolet Blazer, Honda Passport and Hyundai Santa Fe

Buying Advice

We would recommend the SV trim for the list of features and its price point. It offers many additional features like power adjustable front seats, outside heated mirrors, rear sonar system, blindspot warning, etc over the base S trim for a reasonable cost. Plus, opting for AWD configuration will make the 2020 Murano more versatile. We would suggest the Premium Package for the SV trim to add features like dual-panel panoramic moonroof, heated front seats, leatherette appointed seats, etc.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

“The 2020 Nissan Murano ranges from well-equipped to lavish, but the best value lies towards the bottom of the range with the SV trim.” -The Car Connection.

The 2020 Nissan Murano definitely stands out in its segment. It offers comfortable seating but lacks a bit in terms of cargo capacity. Even the performance from its 3.5L engine is underwhelming to say the least. The overall quality of materials in the cabin is good for the price but the best is reserved for the top of the line Platinum trim, starting at a MSRP of $41,730 excluding additional charges.

All the trims come in FWD configuration as standard while AWD is optional for additional $1600. If you like cornering or mild off-road getaways then the AWD will make more sense. The 2020 Nissan Murano’s warranty coverage for 3yr/36,000 kms is good but there’s nothing special about it. Even with the base trim S, you get features like 18-inch alloys, 8.0-inch infotainment system, front and rear USB charging ports along with a suite of safety and driver-assists as standard.

Features
7.0/10

“The 2020 Murano has an exciting appearance and contemporary content, but it's not polished or engaging enough to compete with the best in class.”- Car and Driver

The 2020 Nissan Murano is available in four trims: S, SV, SL and Platinum. The base S trim costs about $31,730. All the trims are available in FWD configuration only, while 4WD is optional. All the trims are equipped with the same drivetrain and offer mediocre performance. However, the fuel efficiency is good for the segment.

From the SV trim itself, features like 10-way power-adjustable seats, auto dimming rearview mirror, speed sensing wipers, remote engine start system, HomeLink Universal Transceiver etc. Nissan also offers a good range of official accessories to muscle up the Murano as per your needs.

The 2020 Nissan Murano offers acceptable fuel economy as a compensation for its uninspiring performance. It offers 20 MPG in the city, 28 MPG on the highways and 23 MPG in combined driving conditions. With a fuel tank capacity of 19.0 gallons, it can travel up to 437 miles in mixed conditions.

All the SUVs offer identical gas mileage while their total range differs. The Hyundai Santa Fe is the least fuel efficient and offers the least range. The Nissan Murano wins the range battle owing to marginally better gas mileage and large fuel tank. The Blazer and Passport offer the same fuel economy in mixed conditions.

Interior
7.0/10

“The Murano's cabin is among the nicest, most well-equipped interiors in this comparison and outluxes most of the other Nissan products.”- Car and Driver

The 2020 Nissan Murano can accommodate up to five passengers. The front seats are comfortable and come with adequate cushioning while being 10-way power adjustable from the SV trim itself. The dashboard is laid out in an ergonomic fashion with the infotainment screen just below the aircon vents. The S and SV trims get cloth upholstery while the SL and Platinum trims get leather appointed seats.

The rear seats are comfortable as well while offering good thigh support. The leg space is good across the second row but not the best. The rear seat is 60/40 split and foldable for extending cargo capacity. The SL and Platinum trims receive heated rear seats while a dual-zone climate control system is standard across all the trims. The Platinum trim gets special semi-aniline leather upholstery with diamond quilted inserts.

Exterior
6.0/10

“Despite its unremarkable performance, the Murano looks fancy and can be affordable.”- Car and Driver

The 2020 Nissan Murano is surely a quirky looking mid-size crossover SUV. The front fascia gets two sharp LED headlamps with daytime running lights along with the signature Nissan V-grille with chrome accents look aggressive. The front bumper houses the fog lamps and merges well with the front profile.

The side profile looks very similar to a hatchback while the roof rails give it a sporty appeal. A strong character line starts from the front headlamps and reaches the rear tail lamps, giving it a very prominent look. The rear profile is aggressive as well with angular LED tail lamps and roof mounted spoiler. The motion activated liftgate aids convenience and opens vertically.
