Overview

Lincoln launched the MKC back in 2015 as an attempt to get on board the fast moving crossover train. Based on the Ford Edge and priced as a compact luxury crossover, the MKC was not a very polished product and it presented Lincoln’s hustle to join the hot segment. Having said that the MKC had some glitches that altered its intentions.

The MKC now enters its 2020 model year, and this is the first time that it has received a major update, in the form of a new revised front styling. The 2020 Lincoln MKC gets a new honeycomb grille, that is also seen in the brands latest models like the Navigator and continental. The new grille not only makes the 2020 MKC look classy but also gives it a more mature presence. Apart from it the overall vehicle remains the same

Buying Advice

Loaded with a wide range of safety features, the Lincoln MKC Select is a value for money trim. In case you are looking to get maximum out of the MKC, we would recommend the Reserve trim. It offers some extras such as a handsfree liftgate and panoramic sunroof. It also provides an option for engine upgrade.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The MKC has never been a revolutionary product in its segment and since the updates for its 2019 model are limited to the exterior style front, there is no strong difference made. The 2019 MKC is a hit or a miss preposition. Coming from the house of Lincoln, it is well built, has premium materials on the inside and offers a smooth and quiet ride as well.

However, when you start comparing with other competitors in the segment like the Jaguar F- Pace, BMW X3, and the Volvo XC60, the 2019 Lincoln MKC starts appearing a bit fady in the competition. It is certainly a good product in its class, but not as complete as its rivals. Where the MKC struggles to catch up with its class is the dated interior layout and lack of advanced safety and tech features. Above all, the MKC does not allow its buyers the liberty of choosing from multiple engines as there is just one engine standard across all trims.

Features
7.0/10

The new Lincoln MKC offers four trim levels: base, Select, Reserve, and Black Label. The base trim levels comes installed with smartphone connectivity options like CarPlay and Android Auto, premium audio, and 18-inch wheels. While the Black trim gets latest designer interior themes, and other premium services like annual vehicle detailing, on-demand car washes, and exclusive restaurant booking.

We Recommend

Engine and Performance
7.0/10

Most people will find the MKC's base engine to be more than good enough. - carconnection

Acceleration

The optional 2.3-liter is decent for an SUV of this class. The engine is exclusively paired with MKC's AWD drivetrain, while the larger engine pushes sub 7-second 0-60 mph run. The power delivery is good. However, the bae engine will offer good duty without any issues.

Braking and Handling

This MKC Reserve comes to halt from 60 mph in 119 feet, a strong showcase for the segment. The pedal feels a bit touchy initially, and some may feel it as softer part. The initial steering feedback is pretty quick. However, the effort made by the steering loooks natural on any kind of terrain. When pushed through a corner, the MKC leand and lacks teh composore unlike the competitors.

Lincoln went with a vertical stack of buttons for the transmission, which frees up space between the seats. A natural-feeling step-in height eases access for front occupants, but backseat space is tight. - Edmunds

Seating and Comfort

Inside, the MKC is an ultimate luxury contender, with tastefully-placed wood grain and brushed metal finishes all around. Wearing darker color palettes, the cabin's lines and window shapes make the interior quite attractive and inviting. With a beautiful, simple dash and center console, the view from the front seats makes you feel stunned.

Infotainment

Another big point for the new Lincoln MKC is the Sync 3 infotainment system, which is user-friendly and gets smartphone integration systems. But might still find MKC's instrument panel design to be dated and something unexpected from a luxury SUV.

Cargo volume

There's adeqaute front storage room ahead of the shifter integrated with security door. The front center armrest bin is really big. The door pockets offer humble space. The cargo area holds 25.2 cubic feet behind the rear seats or 53.1 cubic feet with the rear seatbacks folded (excluding cargo-area levers).

The refreshed 2019 MKC visually delivers on its luxury promise, and the interior alone makes the little Lincoln worth a drive. - carconnection

Dimension and Weight

Lincoln has transformed the MKC more in line stylistically with its sedan lineup and the two larger SUVs in its offering, and that's a very cool thing. The outgoing model wasn't appealing but lacked proper structure in its styling, thanks to a split grill and well-endowed rear end.

The 2019 MKC adapts its grille and front-end design layout cues directly from the new look of the Navigator. Chrome-heavy and sculpted, the latest centerpiece is flanked by firmly reshaped LED headlight units and a appealing chrome-accented lower bumper valance.

Safety
8.6/10

The 2019 LIncoln MKC has scored 4 stars overall rating conducted by the NHTSA, and scored 5 out of 5 stars in side crash test. As far as the IIHS ratings are concerned, the MKC is regarded as Good in side Impact Test results and overall front test results.

Safety features

All the models comes loaded with passenger irbags along with dual-stage front airbag and a driver's knee airbag. A rearview camera is available as standard all models while the blind-spot monitors are optional. The MKC, however, lacks advanced safety features which you find in most of its prominent rivals. The safety features include:

  • AdvanceTrac with RSC (Roll Stability Control)
  • Driver's knee airbag
  • Front-seat side airbags
  • Individual Tire Pressure Monitoring System
  • (excludes spare)
  • Intelligent Access with push-button start
  • MyKey technology to help encourage
  • responsible driving
  • Perimeter alarm
  • Rear view camera
  • SecuriCode invisible keypad
  • SecuriLock Passive Anti-Theft System
  • Side-curtain airbags3 with roll-fold technology
  • SOS Post-Crash Alert System

Competition
8.0/10

Lincoln MKC Vs Acura RDX

Acura RDX is an amazing SUV considering its score card in crash test. It also offers an attractive list of optional safety features, more cargo space in comparison to the Lincoln MKC. It also come with more leg room in the second row. However, Acura suffers in case of performance and luxury. The SUV is priced $3,000 more than the MKC and comes powered with a V-6 engine which does not feel nimble around corners. The Lincoln meanwhile, offers better luxury inside with good towing capacity.

Lincoln KMC Vs Buick Envision

Base engine to base engine, Lincoln's MKC manages to return more power and torque than Buick's Envision. Both are noiseless on the highway and deliver good drivability. Interior space is nearly similar, as is the amount of standard in-car tech, though the MKC is known for more plusher ride.

Lincoln MKC Vs Volvo XC60

The Volvo XC60 got redesigned in 2018 with major features uplift. Some of the improvent includes a responsive infotainment system, more legroom for the rear passengers, a efficient engine choice and best in class cargo capacity. The XC60 is $9,000 costier than the Lincoln MKC but it proves its worth completely. If you want to both performance and luxury then the MKC is a good option.

Final Verdict

The 2019 Lincoln MKC may not be class leader in many areas while others in the segment stand out for one reason or the other. The flaws in this Lincoln model include poor cargo space, cramped rear seats and below average fuel economy. However, it offers smooth and comfortable ride and responsive infotainment system. Interestingly, it is one of the lowest priced luxury SUV in the segment and considering its price we avoid to ask for more. Buy this car if you have strict budget otherwise there are better options to consider.
