... car .... And every vehicle in my family was Hyndai or Kia and I was trying to break from the Korean grip on my household. My next car will be Hyndai - simply put they are much more intelligently engineered, have 100k mile warranties, and more safety technology. This was free. That was the only advantage. Read More

The Lincoln MKC is a luxurious cousin to the Ford Escape which brings in beautiful sheet metal and comfortable interior appointments. The MKC gets all the goodies that make it a competitive rival to the Acura RDX, the BMW X3, and the Cadillac XT5. The 2019 model year is the last hurrah to the nameplate, destined to be replaced by another name. That said, the model year boiled down the complaints to just 5 with zero recalls. Let’s see what the unofficial forums have to say about the common issues.

2019 Lincoln MKC Problems

Electrical issues:

  • Front camera issues: The 2019 MKC electrical issues start with the front camera malfunctioning. These malfunctions have snowballed into many other niggles. A handful of people have reported that cruise control does not work. Some people have reported getting false alerts on their smartphones due to this issue.
  • Door actuator issues: Some people have reported issues with the door lock actuator. These people have reported the doors continuously locking/unlocking while driving. Doing so also flashes the hazard lights as well and causes distraction to the other vehicles on the road.
  • Battery overheating issues: People have reported issues with the battery overheating due to the placement. The battery resides behind thick wires which causes the unit to overheat. This overheating also affects the MKC battery life and causes it to discharge rapidly.

Mechanical issues:

  • Coolant issues: The 2019 MKC coolant is reported to cause a lot of issues. Firstly, the coolant mixes with the engine oil and causes engine damage. The engine is reported to stall at highway speeds and cause collisions. Secondly, some owners reported leakage of coolant. This leakage overheats the engine and causes it to stall/seize. Thirdly, there have been reports of burning coolant from near the exhaust, increasing the chances of a fire.
  • Transmission slipping: The 2019 MKC transmission slips into neutral and causes the revs to climb abnormally. Sometimes, the transmission slips out of park and causes unintentional movement of the crossover.
  • Abnormal brake wear and tear: People have reported the MKC brakes to wear out abnormally shortly after the 10,000-mile mark. Although an inconvenience, the same issue has been observed in the Ford Escape as well.
  • Power steering issues: Some MKC owners have reported a loss of power assistance to the steering wheel when they start the car. This has caused the car to be un-movable when started at a traffic light, leading to inconvenience.

Safety issues:

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance issues: People have repeatedly complained about the system malfunctioning. In some cases, the FCA doesn’t work and lets the MKC too close to the vehicle above it. The system is also reported to activate prematurely due to objects in proximity.

Should you buy the 2019 Lincoln MKC?

Though the picture on the NHTSA isn’t complete, a small read through the unofficial forums shows how the 2019 Lincoln MKC has performed. It is beautiful and luxurious to look at but there are numerous issues, most of them shared with the Ford Escape. If one is considering buying an MKC, consider reading about the mechanical and electrical issues in detail. And as always, proper due diligence is a must!
