Overview

The 2020 Jeep Renegade might be the smallest SUV in Jeep’s lineup but it does draw inspiration from its other bigger siblings, the Wrangler, and the Cherokee. With minor feature changes such as updated wireless data connectivity and Kenwood premium audio system, the 2020 Renegade starts from an MSRP of $22,375. Buyers can also fiddle around with the two engine options-a 1.3L turbocharged unit found in the Limited and the off-road friendly Trailhawk trim, and a 2.4L Naturally Aspirated motor.

Jeep Renegade Buying Advice

The 2020 Jeep Renegade Limited trim, for the price of $27,000, is the best trim out there in the lineup, as the features it houses alone give you a sense of value-based commodity. It offers up features that are useful in everyday driving and also those which can be considered to be a notch above the premium level. If you're in the market for an Old Renegade, be sure to check out the 2018 Renegade, which did get both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay at the same time, and also the 2019 Renegade, which introduced the new 177-hp turbocharged engine.

The Renegade packs in a typical Jeep design on the outside with its 7-slot grille being the most noticeable element of the lot. Other than this, the Renegade has some cool modern touches like LED Headlights and Taillights, while the SUV's interior gets an upmarket Infotainment system with 4G connectivity, and a lot more. For the off-roading part, Jeep has supplied the Renegade with skid plates for the underbody, near the front fascia, and plenty of other features too. For Sale in over 7 major trim choices, the 2020 Renegade, with no major problems reported whatsoever, goes up against the likes of Honda HR-V, Ford EcoSport, and the Mazda CX-3.

2020 Jeep Renegade for sale

Buying Advice

The Limited trim offers a lot of creature comforts like Power adjust seats, auto dimming RVM’s and more features that are very usable in daily driving. Hence, that’s the trim to choice according to us

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Jeep continues to offer the 2020 Renegade in 7 trims, but it does give customers, an option of upgrading to an all-refined 2.4L motor that generates more power than the standard 1.3L unit in the base trims. Jeep has also bumped the number of features on offer on the 2020 Renegade as well. Jeep Renegade also brings forward its long-lost pride of off-roading, with a number of subtle off-roading features. Priced at an MSRP of $22,375, the 2020 Jeep Renegade manages to go up against rivals such as the Honda HR-V, Ford EcoSport, and the Mazda CX-3.

Buying Advice

Amongst the varied trim structure Jeep offers with the 2020 Renegade, the Limited trim for an MSRP of $26,645, does sound the best in the class value-based proposition. It offers a lot of creature comforts like power-adjustable and heated seats, auto-dimming RVM’s, and more features that are pretty usable in daily driving. Hence, that’s the trim to choose according to us.

Fuel Economy
5.0/10

The base 2020 Renegade with a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine has an EPA rating of 22 MPG in the city, 30 miles to the gallon out on the highways and 25 MPG combined with the front-wheel-drive setup. The AWD setup chucks off 1 MPG from all of the above figures. Opt for the 1.3-liter turbo-4 engine, and it gives you 24 MPG in the city and 32 miles to the gallon out on the highway. The AWD variant is rated at 23 and 29 MPG in the city and highway respectively.

The Trailhawk variant delivers different fuel economy figures, as it is rated at 22 and 27 MPG in the city and highway respectively. The 2020 Jeep Renegade offers decent performance for the kind of engines it comes with. However, it compromises on the MPG figures while achieving the same.

Interior
5.0/10

It might look rugged on the outside, but on the inside, the Renegade is comfortable and well-trimmed - Edmunds

Inside, the 2020 Renegade is not as impressive as others in the segment. Material quality is average with hard plastics although once you are inside the lovely texture and color choices on the dashboard brighten things up. For a small car, it has plenty of space inside with enough headroom for taller folks although they might find the legroom a bit tight. The interior layout of the Renegade comes out as a sensible one with plenty of intelligent storage spaces. The newly available mesh seating option makes things a bit more interesting.

The cabin cuts you completely from the engine noise but wind noise is an issue considering its boxy shape. Latitude trim soaks up bumps better than the Trailhawk and offers a better ride quality. The driving position is comfortable and the upright windshield provides you with a broader view of the road ahead. The Renegade boasts comfy seats with a wide range of adjustments.

The 2020 Jeep Renegade's Uconnect Infotainment system is one of the most user-friendly infotainment arrangements available in the market. It responds quickly to commands and it is easy to navigate through the menu. Jeep has ensured that all the controls are within reach and logically arranged.

Standard infotainment feature includes:

  • Connect 8.4 Touchscreen infotainment System
  • Apple CarPlay, Android Auto Compatibility
  • SiriusXM Guardian with Voice Command
  • 7 Full-Color Digital Cluster Display
  • 9 Speaker Beats Audio System
  • Bluetooth and USB connectivity

Exterior
7.0/10

The 2020 Jeep Renegade is a compact crossover SUV with the chunky details and a boxy shape to drive home the brand's woodsy heritage - Thecarconnection.com

The 2020 Renegade is soulfully a Jeep with its round headlight, seven-slot grilles, and a craggy attitude. It is a real Jeep and from the outside, it gives you the feel of the DNA that it carries from the iconic Wrangler and luxurious Grand Cherokee. The Jeep Renegade looks modern rather than retro with an abundance of black trim and curved surfacing.

There is some cool stuff to talk about when it comes to the exterior that the Renegade boasts. The X-featured in its taillight is derived from World War II-era army jerrycans. The wheels have been squared-off giving it a more rugged look and the major difference between trims is that Sports models have flat black trim while the Limited model showcases a contrasting black roof. Top trim Trailhawk wears black wheels and a red toe hook.

Safety
8.8/10

Jeep may not be known as an automaker that focuses on its safety quotient, but with the 2020 Renegade, Jeep has blindsided that notion by providing the compact SUV with the latest and greatest in terms of active and passive safety tech. Coming to the crash-test scores, NHTSA gives the Renegade a 4-stars overall rating while the IIHS scores it "Good" on most tests, but Acceptable on the small-overlap front-impact. Jeep has also scored poorly when it comes to headlights. The 2020 Renegade also comes with a 3-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Some of the Safety features on offer are-

  • Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist
  • Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking
  • Blind Spot Monitoring System
  • Rear Park Assist System
  • Rear Cross Path Detection
  • Rear Back up Camera
  • Auto High Beam Headlamps

Competition
8.0/10

2020 Jeep Renegade Vs 2020 Honda HR-V

The 2020 Honda HR-V comes with better rear-seat adjustments. It also boasts better mileage and has more cargo space than the Renegade. Apart from this, you get cruise control, stereo, anti-theft system, fog lights, and 16-inch alloy wheels as standard on the Honda and not on the Renegade. However, with Jeep, you get a more rugged-looking SUV that appeals more to off-roaders. With a price difference of $1500 between the two, Honda with its features scores better.

2020 Jeep Renegade Vs 2020 Mazda CX-3

It may not have the toughness of the Renegade but it definitely is a better SUV. Once inside the car, you would love its driving dynamics and sporty handling. It also scores better when it comes to fuel efficiency and its crash test results are the best in the class. Mazda CX-3 also brags a more luxurious cabin than the Renegade. So, if you are in the market then do not forget to go and check out the Mazda CX-3. At the end of the day, the choice is yours.

Final Verdict

The 2020 Renegade is a good step from Jeep in providing its buyers, a small but immensely practical SUV. With a ton of modern features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED Headlights and Taillights, Dual-zone climate control, and more, the Renegade packs a punch in terms of keeping in pace with the times. Couple it with the Jeep DNA and its rugged off-road ability and what you have in hand, is a perfect blend of a compact SUV that can take you to the office daily with ease and satisfy your needs for that occasional adventure.
