The 2023 Fiat 500X is now available in only Pop and Sport trim levels. Previously available, Trekking and Trekking Plus trims are discontinued from the lineup. The base Pop trim level starts at an MSRP of $30,560 which is on the higher side for what it offers. It comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, keyless entry, remote start, cloth upholstery, height-adjustable front seats, a 7-inch touchscreen display, a 6-speaker sound system, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You can get the optional Comfort Group package that adds dual-zone automatic climate control, color instrument cluster information screen, and front parking sensors.

We Recommend

We recommend ignoring the base Pop trim as it does not fulfill the purpose of buying the Fiat 500X. The prime reason for buying the Fiat 500X is its exterior look and the base trim is disappointing in that aspect. You should go for the Sport trim along with the Technology Group package. We also recommend going for the optional 19-inch wheels to give it a more aggressive stance. 

The 2023 Fiat 500X comes with a 1.3L turbocharged Inline-4 engine that comes mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. It also comes with an all-wheel drive drivetrain. There is no change in the engine specifications and it still produces a pretty strong 177 horsepower. The performance is quite impressive for the class as it gets ample power for a small form factor. It takes 8.5 seconds to reach from 0 to 60 mph which might not sound like a fast car. But when you look at the rivals, the performance of the Fiat 500X starts making more sense. The quarter-mile run takes 16.6 seconds while the top speed is 119 mph. 

The 2023 Fiat 500X is the fastest car in the segment to reach from 0 to 60 mph. The Honda HR-V takes the second spot with just a slight margin. The 2023 Honda HR-V takes 8.6 seconds to reach from 0 to 60 mph. The 2023 Jeep Renegade shares the same engine and the power output also remains the same for both these cars. Still, the Jeep Renegade remains slower than the Fiat 500X. The 2023 Jeep Renegade takes 9 seconds to reach from 0 to 60 mph which is similar to the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek. 

2023 Fiat 500X Ride and Handling

The smaller size of the Fiat 500X goes in its favor when you consider the handling of the car. The suspension system of the Fiat 500X is well-tuned, providing a good balance between comfort and sportiness. The steering has a good heft to it and provides nice feedback to the driver. The car remains stable even at higher speeds and it feels easy to make sudden turns carrying high speeds.

The 2023 Fiat 500X also comes with an option for an AWD drivetrain for better traction. However, it is not the one to get for off-road adventures and the AWD drivetrain is helpful to counter slippery or slightly rough terrains of the road. The suspension of the Fiat 500X manages to provide good comfort to the passengers sitting in the cabin too. It does a good job of absorbing bumps and potholes, while also keeping the car stable and composed during cornering.

The 2023 Fiat 500X comes with 12-inch brake rotors in the front and 11-inch rotors in the rear. The size of the brakes is quite large for a vehicle of this size. The curb weight of the 2023 Fiat 500X is 3,305 pounds. The braking system of the Fiat 500X is capable enough to bring the car to a complete stop from the speed of 60 mph in just 120 feet. The stopping distance is another thing, what sets Fiat 500X apart is the confidence it gives you. The driver gets good feedback while applying the brakes, boosting the confidence of the driver in the corners. 

The braking distance of the 2023 Jeep Renegade and the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek are not available. The 2023 Fiat 500X takes the shortest braking distance to come to a top of 60 mph when you keep it against the Honda HR-V as we only know the stopping distance for the HR-V in the competition. The Honda HR-V takes 140 feet to stop from 60 mph which is 20 feet more than the Fiat 500X. However, Honda HR-V is the lightest car in the competition. 

The 2023 Fiat 500X delivers a decent fuel economy for its class. Although efficiency matters to the buyers in this segment, the Fiat 500X is not the best choice if that is your priority. It can return a decent fuel economy of 24 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg of combined fuel economy. The fuel economy falls in the average category. You can neither categorize it as the best nor the worst. The fuel tank capacity is also of a decent size at 12.7 gallons which allows it to deliver a maximum highway range of 381 miles. 

The 2023 Jeep Renegade offers the least fuel efficient car in the competition. It also offers the least highway range as the fuel tank capacity is similar to the FIat 500X. The smaller fuel tank capacity and lower mpg figures will require multiple stops when you take these cars on a long trip. The 2023 Honda HR-V offers significantly better fuel efficiency and also comes with a bigger fuel tank. You can go without a stop for 448 miles in the Honda HR-V on the highway. The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek offers the best fuel efficiency and the largest fuel tank too. 

The front of the 2023 Fiat 500X comes with ample space for the driver and the co-passenger. Getting in and out of the car is fairly easy and the gate opens pretty wide too. The quality of the cabin can not be classified among the best in the class, it is just average. However, the interior layout is good and you get great visibility outside from the cabin. The controls for the driver are easy to reach. The space in the rear seats is tight and it can be difficult for taller people to sit comfortably. The cargo area of the Fiat 500X is also below the mark even for its class with just 14 cubic feet of space. 

The front row of the Fiat 500X is pretty spacious with enough room to stretch out your feet. However, it gets the least legroom in the class for the rear seat passengers. Even when you fold down the rear seats, the maximum cargo area is limited to 32 cubic feet. The 2023 Jeep Renegade managed to offer slightly more room in the rear seats and a bigger cargo area. The 2023 Honda HR-V is the most spacious car in the segment in the rear seats and cargo area department followed by the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek.

2023 Fiat 500X Infotainment System

The 2023 Fiat 500X comes with a familiar 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display. The screen size is on the smaller side if you compare it to today’s standard where the screen sizes are getting bigger. There is some lag in the touch response but using the touch screen system is not a big challenge as the interface is pretty easy. The one downside is that you will have to go through multiple options if you have to turn off some of the driver-aids. Other than that, it comes with a 6-speaker standard audio system that can be upgraded to an optional Beats audio system. But the upgrade is available on the Sport trim only. The buyers of the Sport trim can also get the optional factory navigation system.

The 2023 Fiat 500X has not changed much in its exterior appearance from its predecessors. It looks pretty plain and simple with the rounded styling bits that give it a timeless look. It is not the most aggressive and modern-looking car out there in the market but it finds a good balance. You will notice the prominent grille with the Fiat logo, flanked by round headlights on the front of the car. The side of the Fiat 500X remains as simple as it could be with no bold lines or visual drama. The rear of the car matches the aesthetics with round taillights and a spoiler that adds to the sporty look of the car. 

The 2023 Fiat 500X and the 2023 Jeep Renegade are pretty similar in terms of the exterior dimensions. The Fiat 500X is slightly longer than the Jeep Renegade, while the Jeep is wider than the Fiat 500X. The wheelbase remains identical for both of these compact SUVs. The ground clearance is also similar as the Fiat 500X sits 7.9 inches above the ground while the Jeep Renegade sits 8 inches above the ground. The Honda HR-V is the longest car in the segment. However, the Subaru Crosstrek gets a slightly longer wheelbase compared to the Honda.

The 2023 Fiat 500X comes with a decent list of standard safety features and driver assistance technologies. However, it is a wise decision to go for the Technology Group package that adds features like adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, automatic high beams, and a navigation system. The only problem is that the Technology Group Package is available only with the Sport trim so the buyers of the lower Pop trim do not even get an option to upgrade to these features. The overall structure of the Fiat 500X is pretty strong. The 2023 Fiat 500X is not crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as of now so the ratings are not available.

The Honda HR-V is also a more renowned name in terms of reliability making it a better choice for a family car. If you wish to buy a compact SUV that can keep your family comfortable and offer you great reliability and practical design, the Honda HR-V makes a better choice between the two. 

2023 Fiat 500X vs 2023 Subaru Crosstrek

The 2023 Fiat 500X again stands out between the two for the same reason. It comes with a compact and sporty look and drives like a sportier compact SUV too. It can not do much in terms of off-road capabilities. Even though you get the AWD drivetrain option, it is meant for more sophisticated roads. When you compare it against the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek, the Crosstrek has various advantages over the Fiat 500X. The first and biggest advantage is that the Subaru Crosstrek is a more serious off-road vehicle than the two. The Subaru Crosstrek also comes with better space inside the cabin and the cargo area is also better in the Crosstrek. Although the final preference comes down to the requirements, the Subaru Crosstrek ticks more boxes than the Fiat 500X. 

The biggest highlight of the 2023 Fiat 500X remains its cute and compact design. The buyers have given so much love to the car for the same reason over the years. The compact design does not only look cool, but it also makes it an easier choice to take it anywhere. It is also easy to find parking spaces for a compact car and taking it in and out of the parking lot is also easier. The space inside the cabin is quite decent for the class and it can seat four people very comfortably. The cargo area could be better when you keep it against its rivals. The fun of driving a compact car makes it a great choice in the segment. However, the rivals outperform the 2023 Fiat 500X in many areas.
