Overview

The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe is a midsize coupe offered in 6 trims, starting off at a base MSRP of $55,000. For that price, it mainly competes with the Dodge Challenger SRT 392 Coupe and the Ford Mustang GT Coupe. Meanwhile, the Lexus RC F Coupe is also a potential rival with the base highest price tag among the bunch. Furthermore, the rivals offer a seating capacity of 4 or 5 as opposed to 2 given on the Corvette Stingray. Between 6 trims, the Corvette Stingray Coupe offers a single powertrain. It is a 6.2L V8 engine making 455 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. However, there is a choice between a 7-speed manual transmission and an 8-speed automatic transmission. If more power is required, the same engine puts out 465 horsepower with a performance exhaust system and 460 horsepower on the Z51 trims. The Corvette Stingray Coupe reaches 60 mph from zero in the range of 3.7 to 4.0 seconds. Depending on the powertrain, the Corvette Stingray can manage a combined fuel economy between 20 and 21 mpg. While we're on the topic of choices, the 10 striking colors the Corvette Stingray Coupe comes in really pull you towards itself.

Buying Advice

If you are not bothered by the slight difference in the acceleration then we think the 2LT trim will be the right choice. You can also pay an extra $1,195 for the dual-mode performance exhaust provided the slight power increase is seductive enough. Meanwhile, for more features and upgraded performance, we would recommend, the Z51 2LT trim.

Corvettes were always my dream car growing up. My Dad was a Chevrolet dealer so I was around them a lot. When I was old enough I couldn't afford the car, let alone the insurance, I didn't buy my first one until my last kid finished college, a red 1990 conertible. Since then I've had another C4, a C5, a C6 and my current C7.
