Overview

The 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe is among the most beautiful sports coupe cars that one can get today. The F-Type combines performance, luxury, and styling in the most balanced manner. It starts at a price where it is very affordable to own, and can also get expensive with its completely loaded R variant.

Buying Advice

We surely recommend the 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe 2dr coupe trim. It might not have as much power as the higher trims, but it does offer a similar driving performance that is second to none. The car already comes with a lot of standard features and the optional features make things better.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The F-Type Coupe is not as fast on a track as one would expect, but it has got the thump to deliver an astounding driving experience. The Coupe body style has been added this year itself, something that will be preferred by a lot of Jaguar enthusiasts. The 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe goes up against the 2015 BMW M4 Coupe and the 2015 Porsche Cayman S Coupe.

Features
9.0/10

The 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe comes in three trim levels: 2dr Coupe, 2dr Coupe S and the 2dr Coupe R. Pricing for the trims starts at $65,000 for the base trim and goes up to $99,000 for the top trim. Standard features on all trims include 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic bi-xenon headlamps, headlight washers, rear spoiler heated side mirrors, auto-dimming rearview mirror, cruise control, tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, and an 8-inch touchscreen.

The Vision pack adds adaptive headlights, automatic high beams, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, a blind-spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic detection.

We Recommend

We surely recommend the 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe 2dr coupe trim. It might not have as much power as the higher trims, but it does offer a similar driving performance that is second to none. The car already comes with a lot of standard features and the optional features make things better.

Engine and Performance
9.1/10

The 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe comes with a supercharged 3.0L V6 engine, coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine makes 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. A manual transmission is missed on this car. The engine roars and grunts, producing one of the best symphonies ever heard.

The car handles very precisely and to the point. It’s accurate and turns on the dime. The ride quality however is on the stiffer side due to the stiff suspension. The car comes with a rear-wheel-drivetrain. The 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe zooms past the 60 mph mark in 5.1 seconds and manages to reach the quarter-mile mark in 13.3 seconds. It has a top speed of 161 mph.

The 2015 BMW M4 produces the highest power and torque and clocks the best 0-60 mph time of 4 seconds, and the best quarter-mile time of 12.3 seconds. It is followed by the Porsche at 4.6 seconds, with the Jaguar coming in at last at 5.1 seconds. The BMW also boasts a higher top speed of 180 mph. The 340 hp F-Type is more expensive than the other two.

Fuel Economy
6.0/10

The 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe with the automatic returns 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, with a combined efficiency of 23 mpg. These are great numbers in terms of a compact sports car. The car has a tank capacity of 18.5 gallons, which gives it a massive range of 418 miles combined.

The F-Type ties the spot for the best efficiency with the Porsche. Both return the same economic numbers. On the other hand, the BMW is the least efficient with its 20 mpg combined efficiency, which goes down to 17 mpg in the city. The 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe offers the most range at 370 city miles and 518 highway miles. The Porsche is slightly behind due to its smaller tank. The BMW M4 returns a range of 270 miles in the city and 413 miles on the highway.

Interior
9.1/10

The 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe’s interiors are extremely lavish and premium. The materials used in the interiors are what you’d expect from a Jaguar: top quality, high attention to detail, and impeccable craftsmanship. The fit and finish are excellent, and the cabin is truly appealing. The dash is well laid out, and it’s easy to understand what’s where.

The seats in the car transmit only one thing the moment you sit: performance. The stitching, the bolstering and the well-cushioned and supportive seats offer great comfort no matter what you do. The passenger grab handle on the center console is a unique touch. The seats sit low but offer a lot of adjustability and the visibility on offer is great. The 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe comes with optional equipment that ranges from $450 to $1,500.

The 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe as well as the Porsche Cayman both can seat only two people in the car. The BMW M4 can sit 4 people. That said, the BMW is roomier than the F-Type in terms of headroom, but the F-Type offers more shoulder room and slightly more legroom. The BMW M4’s rear is also spacious and offers decent legroom. In terms of cargo capacity, the Porsche offers a tiny 9.7 cu-ft whereas Jaguar and BMW offer more at 11 cu-ft. Some interior features are:

  • Tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel
  • Keyless ignition
  • Cruise control
  • Ambient lighting
  • Single zone front climate control
  • Clock and a compass

How intuitive is the 2015 Jaguar F-Type coupe’s infotainment unit?

The 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe’s infotainment system is old and outdated. It’s slow, and the user interface is not among the best to read or understand. The complexity of this system is one of the parameters that work against the car, as such technological betterments are expected at this price point. However, standard features on the 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe include an 8-screen touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, CD player, auxiliary audio jack, iPod integration, and a 10-speaker sound system. A 12-speaker Meridian system is available as an option. Salient infotainment features include:

  • USB port
  • Navigation
  • Speed sensitive volume control
  • 8-inch touchscreen
  • Video Monitor
  • 12-speaker Meridian sound system

Exterior
9.1/10

The 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe’s exterior is as expressive as it gets. There are a few design cues that dive into Jaguar’s history as well, hinting at the E-Type and the XK. The car’s design is sporty, sharp, and curvy: all at the same time. The front end is tall, sports a huge grille, and the vertical oval headlamps mean business. The side is short, prominently displaying the deep wheel arches and a sloping roofline. The rear is stubby, and houses a nostalgic pair of round and long tail lights with a centrally mounted exhaust system.

Coming to the 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe’s dimensions, it is pretty compact and sits with a low profile. The length, width, and height stand at 176 inches, 75 inches, and 51 inches respectively. It has a wheelbase of 103 inches and is slightly on the heavier side with a curb weight of 3477 lbs.

When compared to the rivals, the BMW M4 is longer and taller than the other two. It is the heaviest as well and has the longest wheelbase at 110 inches. The Porsche on the other hand is the lightest at 2910 lbs, has the tightest wheelbase, and sits closer to the ground. Few major exterior features include-

  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Sunroof
  • LED running lights
  • Integrated spoiler
  • Rain-sensing wipers
  • Heated mirrors

Safety
8.0/10

The 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe has not been crash- rated by the NHTSA or the IIHS. The car is based on the JLR D6a platform and uses an all-aluminum chassis with high strength and rigidity. Standard safety features on the F-Type include a tire pressure monitoring system, airbags, traction control, stability control, rollover protection bars, seat-mounted side airbags, and ABS. Front parking sensors, a rearview camera, and a blind spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert can be added as well. The Vision package is highly recommended. Safety features include:

  • Ventilated front and rear disc brakes
  • Remote anti-theft alarm system
  • 4-Wheel ABS
  • Airbags
  • Traction control
  • Engine immobilizer
  • Rollover Protection bars

Final Verdict

For $65,000, the 2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe excels in every aspect important in sports cars: performance, luxury, and handling. On top of that, the car offers great fuel economy as well. The interiors are nice but can do with more flair and the technology needs a serious upgrade. The roadster will be the go-to choice for many, but there’s no replacing the added benefit of a rigid roof. All in all, the 2015 Jaguar F-Type is a worthy upgrade and a sure recommendation from us.
