German automakers have dominated the luxury sedan marketplace for years running, as they appeal to the audience with their emphasis on technology and class. Meanwhile, American luxury sedans are a dwindling breed of vehicles, with only automakers like Cadillac taking the initiative to produce these beauties. The CT5 is a great specimen of a large handsome American luxury sedan, packed in with a ton of features and creature comforts. Under the hood, the CT5 can be powered by a range of powerful engines, which also include a fiery twin-turbo V-6.

The 2022 Cadillac CT5 now includes two new optional packages, as well as brand-new driver assistance, features. The CT5 is one of the last remaining American luxury sedans in the market, having replaced the long-gone CTS. The CT5 is a cheaper alternative to its German counterparts, available at a much more affordable price. However, questions have been raised about the Cadillac CT5’s commitment to comfort and refinement. We discuss these related issues that the 2022 Cadillac CT5 may face in detail.

2022 Cadillac CT5 User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical Problems

  • Engine - Owners have complained about the performance of the CT5’s engine. For such a premium price, the engine doesn't feel energetic enough, often lacking the element of owner satisfaction. The engine start and stop feature can especially be a nuisance. Cadillac themselves admitted that the engine can suffer from a no-start, misfire, or extended cranking scenario. Cadillac hasn’t provided a permanent fix for any of its engine issues yet.

Electrical Problems

  • Electronic stability control - Owners of the CT5 expect it to lend a top-notch driving experience while driving on a highway. On the contrary, the CT5 struggles to even keep lanes, because of its stability control issues. Paired with the occasional steering issues, this can turn into a punishing experience for the driver to control the vehicle. Cadillac states that software updates are needed to resolve these issues.

Safety Problems

  • Airbags - A few CT5 owners received a ‘Service Safety Restraint System' message on their dashboard. When owners took their vehicles to the dealership, they stated that the airbag sensor needs to be replaced. However, due to the unavailability of replacement parts, the cars were left hanging without repairs. This can be a serious safety concern, as there have been complaints from customers for the previous year’s model related to the airbags not deploying.
  • Structure - Questions have been raised on the CT5’s build quality. A few owners reported that the transmission mount snubber was out of place. This can lead to excessive vibration and noise, which is quite embarrassing for a luxury sedan.

Should you buy the 2022 Cadillac CT5?

The 2022 Cadillac CT5 is a fresh homegrown American alternative in a sea full of German luxury sedans. The CT5 appeals to buyers with its handsome looks, feature-filled interiors, and impressive driver assistance technologies. However, the CT5 misses out on two key elements of luxury and refinement when compared to its rivals. Owners have relentlessly whined about the CT5’s reliability issues and quality issues. In the NHTSA registry, the CT5 has only 2 recalls under its name but has several annoying issues that still need to be fixed. Customers looking for a better luxury sedan experience need to redirect their focus to the usual German executives.
