... went bad 1 month goes by the front passenger shock starts making noise yes the car has warranty and was serviced by Acura! But today the braking system lights are on as well as the low speed sensors my dash looks like a Christmas tree called Acura main branch to explain that this car came out a lemon all the day is it has warranty. I explained that the total investment in this MDX is 38k out of the 61k they told me at the dealership they can buy itRead More

... the hood obscures your field of view and the bulbus mass attached to the top of the instrument cluster makes zero sense. The car feels disconnected from the road with numb steering and overly soft suspension--this was obviously never tested at the Nurberg ring racetrack where the 2nd gen was tuned. What a disappointment. Maybe the advance or type-s is better? Still, the 2nd gen mdx feels like an extension of me,Read More

For people refusing to make the jump from economy cars to luxury cars for the sake of practicality, there are plenty of options that bridge the gap well. We’re talking about brands like Acura that specialize in making luxury available at much more affordable prices. More importantly, these cars have a reputation of being easy to maintain and hence make this transition easier than ever. These cars can provide you with everything you need to have fun while perfectly balancing out the practical side of things with all the luxury they offer. The 2022 Acura MDX is an excellent SUV from the Japanese luxury brand.

It is also packed with technology and convenience features to blow your mind. We do love how this car looks - it blends grace and ruggedness in a way that is never seen before. It might be a little pricey starting at an MSRP of $49,045, without options but is the flagship SUV from the brand and hence tries to bring the best to the table. It competes against the Volvo XC90, the Porsche Cayenne, and the BMW X5. Let us see what we can learn about Acura MDX reliability through this article.

2022 Acura MDX User Complaints and Problems

Acura is a manufacturer that gives utmost importance to the trust the owner places on the car and they generally engineer their cars in a way that they do not give you much of a headache in terms of maintenance and repair. This is especially true when coming from a parent brand like Honda. Yet, there have been issues like battery drain and transmission problems that are currently ongoing. Acura engineers a lot of dependability into their cars and this commitment can be seen in their product design as well as after-sales service.

Being a luxury car, every single repair bill might go into a few thousands, and hence it is ideal that you have nothing going wrong in the car. In order to understand more about this, we should take a look at the various complaints customers have registered about this particular car. This will give us a clearer picture of Acura MDX issues. However, this generation has only been on sale since 2022 and hence the amount of data we will have on it is less.

Mechanical problems:

  1. The brakes on the car have been reported to be not working according to one owner. The warning light has flashed several times and the Acura dealership has not found a solution.
  2. One owner has raised the concern about the vehicle making a noise when shifting from park to reverse or drive. The owner has also found transmission fluid leaking when the car had only been driven for 450 miles. Multiple owners have reported Acura MDX transmission issues. Even new cars have reported a lot of unreliability regarding this particular part.

Interior problems:

  1. One owner reported that there was a problem of whistling noise heard while driving. This happens between speeds of 40 and 65 mph and is mostly related to wind noise.

Safety problems:

  1. Another owner has also stated that the safety features of the car are malfunctioning. It braked suddenly while traveling at speed on a highway. This nearly caused an accident which is ironic considering the system is meant to avoid one.

Like we have mentioned before, the current generation has only been on sale from this year but has already reported eight complaints. However, so far there have not been any recalls because the brand might still be studying the issues. The transmission system in this car seems to be a problematic one and has been the source of headache for a lot of owners. Let us take a look at the recalls history of this car.

2022 Acura MDX Recalls

Recalls are generally assigned when the car has a common fault that has affected a large number of vehicles sold in that particular batch. Although the Acura TLX may have a lot of complaints, the manufacturer responded well by issuing recalls that fixed these complaints. We see this as a good sign because it shows commitment to providing customers with a decent experience. The current generation has not generated a large number of complaints even when you take the other models it shares its platform and parts with. Yet, we feel that the transmission problems could be cause for a recall in the future.

The NHTSA website is the source for this as well since they are the official agency responsible for recording recalls. However, like we have mentioned, no recalls have taken place for the 2022 model year and data is not available for the 2021 model year. We take a look at the history of the 2020 Acura MDX in order to find out the last recorded recall. Let us take a look at them below.

Fuel pump may fail

The fuel pump failing while driving can cause the engine to stall and in turn, increase the risk of a crash.

The Acura MDX is a reliable car to begin with because it has sold a large number of units and not many owners complain. We cannot understand much from the recalls history because it was regarding a previous generation but the brand has fixed a common issue that was raised by a lot of owners. As such, its number of complaints is on the lower side if you consider other cars in the category with a similar level of technology.

Which model year of the Acura MDX should you avoid?

The current generation of the Acura MDX has been in production only since 2022 and has been a highly desirable car. What is surprising to us is that every car usually has a large number of problems when it is introduced but this car has managed to have smooth sailing even in its debut year. For a modern car, the complaints history of this car is very reassuring because despite the level of complexity it operates at, this car has managed to keep problems at bay. However, if we had to suggest any model that you should be avoiding, then it would have to be the 2016 Acura MDX. The 2015 Acura MDX reliability was quite decent but then it took a sharp drop for the following year and the total number of complaints rose significantly.

Should you buy the 2022 Acura MDX?

The Acura MDX is a sensational car that is good-looking, powerful as well as practical. It also has an Acura MDX Type S variant which is thoroughly entertaining to drive. This car also has tons of features, technology, and luxury. And as far as dependability goes, we feel that this car performs well in its category. If you’re asking for our recommendation, we would confidently ask you to buy it. It is still a very value for money proposition in the market.
