... the vehicle started running slower. I received a notice on the console that the vehicle w@s running under reduced power. This was REALLY REALLY bad, I was in the worst possible situation for this to happen, AGAIN in the middle of a busy freeway, and I thought the engine was going to die right there. Had the vehicle towed to the dealer, and it transpired that a turbo duct had come loose. This was the 2nd time in a precariousRead More

There are three trim models and two engine options. I purchased the R-Design trim with the T4 engine because I did not know much about Volvo. The exterior has a classy look but the interior is boxy and not very tech forward. They say the XC40 is competing withRead More

The Volvo XC40 impresses with its exquisite style and poise, with no other SUV matching its exciting personality except for its bigger Volvo siblings. The XC40 holds the title of the Swedish manufacturer’s smallest SUV offering. However, Volvo ensures that the XC40 doesn’t feel small in any of the important aspects like luxury and technology. It's just about the perfect size for a small family, while the bigger siblings like the XC60 are fit for larger-sized families.

The 2022 Volvo XC40 is one of the most interesting SUVs to drive, thanks to its selection of 2 engine choices. The premium interiors are decorated with high-end materials and cutting-edge technology and driver assistance features. The ride feels extremely consistent thanks to the impressive ride quality and interactive driver assistance features. Nevertheless, the 2022 Volvo XC40 faces the burden of a few problems like most premium SUVs.

2022 Volvo XC40 User Complaints and Problems

Engine and Mechanical Problems

  • Engine - Water leaks in the APS circuit would corrode it and this would result in corrupted signals. These signals caused unintended acceleration, a lack of acceleration, or a loss of drive power. The fix involved installing a cable splice to stop water from creeping inside the APS circuit.

Electrical Problems

  • Electrical system - Electrical issues are the most commonly reported problem for the 2022 Volvo XC40. There have been different electrical glitches, which include propulsion system issues, blind spot system issues, and rear camera issues. Another old recall discussed a high voltage disconnect which led to a complete power loss in the vehicle.
  • Forward collision avoidance - The forward collision avoidance system failed to engage in critical situations for a few SUVs. This was because of the failure of the automatic emergency braking system, which was not fully compatible with the new SUV hardware. Volvo has issued a software update to address this issue.
  • Pilot assist - The Volvo’s intelligent semi-autonomous driving feature has a tendency to turn off automatically without any warning. The pilot assist can turn off in 2 scenarios, one where the driver takes his hand off the steering wheel for more than 15 seconds. In the second case, the feature can also turn off if the cameras don’t capture the road lanes accurately. The only likely solution for this issue is a software update.

Safety Problems

  • Brakes - The Volvo XC40 had issues with its braking pedals. The braking pedals weren’t properly riveted, which led to a reduction in braking performance. Affected owners had to get their SUVs inspected on-site at their nearest Volvo dealership.

Should you buy the 2022 Volvo XC40?
