Overview

Stunning stance, lucrative luxury, and strong AMG voodoo are what happens to perfectly explain the AMG E53 sedan. The AMG marvels took the regular inline-6 from the Mercedes shelf and tuned it to unleash its power. Performance wise this E class is sure to put a big smile on your face, you can hug corners, blast through the highways, and the electric battery keeps your running cost abridged.

The E 53 initiates the AMG line in the E class territory, though you have to pay $72,550 to get the E 53. This Merc employs a 3.0L Intercooled Turbo Gas/Electric engine paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The engine hammers out 429 horsepower and 384-pound-feet of torque. This E class is good enough to challenge segment leaders like the BMW 5 series, Genesis G80, and Lexus LS.

Buying Advice

The E 53 sits at the summit of the E class convertible lineup. You don’t have much of a choice from there though you can add optional Convenience Or Premium package if you want.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Features

Being a Mercedes executive offering, the E class is all about comfort and luxury. Merc knocked down the E43 and added a new AMG-fied mutant called the AMG E53. This variant bridges the gap between the non-AMG models and the latter. You get a drastic spike in power and price followed by a series of safety, sport, and convenience feature upgrades. Generally, people going for an E class are the seekers of comfort and luxury though for the people who want an aggressive ride while maintaining their impeccable taste of luxury will love this AMG E 65.

Fuel Economy
8.0/10

The AMG name is associated with a lot of things, sinister styling, inspiring performance, and gas-coholic engines. However, the new E 53 is here to break the taboo. The E 53 is surprisingly frugal than the previous variants. In the city, you can expect a 21 mpg mileage while highway stretches the number to 28 mpg.

“It shouldn’t be a surprise that the 4- and 5-passenger interiors of the AMG E-Class variants closely match those of the standard models. Still, AMG-specific details help these Mercedes performance models stand out even on the inside”-KBB

While other brands support logic and mutated designs, Merc keeps it simple with its evergreen design a plush quality. The front seats can be electrically adjustment with memory system to make you feel comfortable. The E Class takes a page from the S class’s book as they share the same material quality. The sweeping digital dashboard is a treat to look at. Mercedes E Class blends technology with class better than other marquees.

In a time when cars are adopting tech at an exponential rate. Even A-B commuters are equipped with state of the art smartphone integration. Luxuries like heated and ventilated seats are available as standard options for many budget cars. What about the cars that defined luxury? The Mercedes E Class brings in luxury that was pretty much unheard of.

Infotainment

The standard satellite navigation system is good but not like AMG models as they get enhanced features. The shortcut buttons to use the beautiful infotainment are placed in the natural hand-resting position when driving the car.

The main attraction is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster which is placed adjacent to the central screen of the same size. The Merc also offers a 4G LTE in-car Wi-Fi system, rear-seat entertainment package, and wireless phone-charging. To work the touchpad a bit of skill is needed but when you drive it daily, it gets to you and you feel very connected.

Cargo Capacity

The standard E class boot space is 15 cubic feet through the AMG variants were ripped off of 2 cubic feet to deliver a total of 13 cubic feet. Things with the coupe variant are even worst due to the sloping roofline. There's more than enough space to carry bags or large suitcases but the Mercedes raised boot opening means it's not quite as easy to pack full of bulky items. Also, the competitors were more resourceful while planning the cargo bay.

"Forget the days of blocky taxis; the 2020 Mercedes E-Class is a stunner in any form. Sedans have a pleasantly bulbous look that echoes Mercedes' more voluptuous designs of the past"- Thecarconnection

The E Class carries that understated nature of high-end German cars very well. The design follows subtle lines and if you are looking for something that has massive street massive, then your money is better spent elsewhere. Although, the design has been around for a while now. It doesn't show any signs of aging.

Most E Class buyers actually appreciate this understated opulence. The AMG variant comes with a more aggressive demeanor when it comes to styling, you get AMG body styling, all LED exterior, and AMG Nappa Leather steering wheel and other sport upgrades.

Safety
9.0/10

It takes time and works to build reliable cars, however, Mercedes has been around for a lot of time and proved its safety suit's superiority. The same is reflected in the E class's standard safety features. The cluster of active and passive safety features is nothing short than impressive. However, it's still too soon for the E class to hit the brick wall for safety testing.

BMW M550i vs Mercedes Benz AMG E 53

The BMW M500i is a more driver-centric car, its performance is it's the best virtue and enough to beat the likes of an AMG. The bigger engine gives it an edge while acceleration and the overwhelming engine cosmetics make you jab the pedal even further.

However, the Merc is keen on making your ride more luxurious. The Beemer offers the same things but one a lesser magnitude. Also, the E 53 is more frugal and offer a better price value.

Lexus LS 500 vs Mercedes Benz AMG E 53

The days of European brands dominating the Luxury market are in the past, Lexus reinstates its dominance through the LS 500.

It's equivalent to the E 53 in a lot of ways, it features a similar power spec plus a plush interior which puts the Europeans to shame. However, when it comes to performance, the AMG's superior gene makes it quicker and more drivable car.

Final Verdict
8.2/10

The Mercedes Benz E class represents extravagance and athleticism in an unparallel way. The plush interior and strong AMG bravado make it a gentlemen's pick while being a fire breathing wreaking machine. The E 53 knocks the E 43 AMG this year to be second to the mental E 63 S AMG. Some people advocate E class to be more comfort centric rather than being a sport and that's true for the base variants, but the AMG E53 is a perfect amalgamation of comfort and nimbleness.

Despite having so much power the engine does not gulp fuel like its competitors. The cargo volume is fair as well, so if you want a car that is sporty while the same time supports practicality in a tasteful way than the 2020 AMG E 53 is ready to impress you.
