Overview

The 765LT is the newest car to come out of McLaren. On top of this, the 2021 765LT Coupe is also the one to use the finest and most powerful engines the brand has ever made. The McLaren 765LT Coupe is basically a leaner and faster version of the existing McLaren 720S. This vehicle has a gorgeous exterior that is ideal for anyone looking for a classy ride to impress their peers. It features top-quality carbon fiber materials in and out of its body that you would expect from a McLaren. The LT moniker denotes that this is a lightweight track weapon that takes on other performance monsters with absolute class.

Buying Advice

There is only one trim level available for the 765LT Coupe, which in itself is adequately loaded with all the features required from a car of this segment. If you plan to purchase it, you have no other choice but to purchase the single trim. However, cars are very limited as McLaren will only produce 765 units of the 765LT Coupe.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

As a more refined version of the V8 engine found in the 720S, it features F1-grade materials that will allow it to churn 755 horses. With this V8 twin-turbo monster under the hood, it takes just 2.7 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. Moreover, it comes with an ultra-lightweight carbon fiber body and an advanced suspension system for your track days. Priced at $358,000, the 2021 McLaren 765LT is slightly expensive due to its limited availability. It rivals the likes of the Ferrari F8 TributoLamborghini Huracan EVO, and Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series.

Features

The 2021 McLaren 765LT coupe is only available in a single trim level. Let's talk about some of the most exciting features of this coupe. This car has an 8.0-inch touchscreen, a re-engineered 4.0L Twin Turbo V8 engine, carbon-fiber racing seats, twin hinged dihedral doors, variable drift control, pedestrian braking, and quad exhaust system to name a few. This is basically a faster version of the McLaren 720S Coupe and weighs 176 pounds less than it, which is quite a reduction.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

Most high-performance supercars do not come with outstanding MPG ratings as they are not designed for this in the first place. The MPG figures also don't matter much to the buyers of these niche products either. However, leaving that aside, the 2021 765LT Coupe returns 14 MPG in the cities, while it can cover 18 MPG on the highway. The combined MPG stands 15 miles, which is almost the same as most of its competitors. The 765LT coupe has a 19-gallon fuel tank, which is ideal for cars in this segment.

The Ferrari Tributo has the best MPG figures here. The Huracan and 765LT are also not too far behind. Range-wise, the Tributo comes out on top, thanks to its large 22.7-gallon fuel tank. The 765LT, on the other hand, has the smallest one measuring 19 gallons. Since these are mostly track monsters, you better be focusing on crunching lap records rather than miles.

Interior
8.0/10

Its interior is what makes the 765LT stand out among other supercars quality-wise. Taking inspiration from McLaren's P1, the seats inside the 765LT are designed similarly. It has a minimalistic cockpit with a lot of functionality. However, if we talk about comfort, it is not the most comfortable. This isn't the fault of the 765LT, most vehicles in this segment don't put much effort into providing comfort, and that's understandable. There is little to no padding on the seats, obviously to reduce weight and give the driver explicit feedback on track conditions.

The Proactive Chassis Control II suspension continuously monitors road conditions and their effect on the suspension. Comfort wise, you are bound to feel even the tiniest of undulations of the road on the inside. You have plenty of legroom, but the shoulder room is a bit compromised. On the dashboard side, you can also find Alcantara materials. Most of the interior is made of carbon fiber. It is also very comfortable to enter and leave this coupe, thanks to its dihedral doors. Generally speaking, the interior quality of the 765LT is really good. But when it comes to comfort, it does lack a little, so does every vehicle in this segment.

The dimensions of most of the cars are not known, so no definitive statement can be made about them. Still, we believe the interior room and comfort in this segment will not be the best, but it will not be the worst either. These cars are purely made for track days, so don’t expect a lot of interior tech and comfort features. They stand in the way of extracting max performance as they add to the unwanted extra weight. Standout interior features include:

  • Carbon Fiber Racing Seats
  • Door storage pocket with net
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Faux-suede Alcantara upholstery

What’s there to keep you entertained?

When you consider the price of the 2021 McLaren 765LT, you wouldn't expect its infotainment system to be the way it is. It is a supercar designed for speed, but the car comes with a decent list of features. McLaren offers its customers the option of cutting down on some of the infotainment systems to further reduce the weight of the vehicle. However, the list does include some infotainment features as standard.

An 8.0-inch touchscreen, which looks like a big handset, is placed vertically on the front console. There is also a 4-speaker system that comes standard, but you can upgrade to 10 Bowers & Wilkin stereo systems for an additional fee. Other basic features include Satellite Navigation System, Satellite Radio, Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, AM/FM Stereo, and Bluetooth Connectivity. The infotainment system can also be equipped with McLaren Track Telemetry w/Lap Time Function to keep track of your records. Standout infotainment features include:

  • McLaren Track Telemetry w/Lap Time Function
  • Eight-inch touchscreen vertical infotainment screen
  • Satellite Radio
  • Satellite Navigation System
  • Bluetooth Connectivity
  • Ten-speaker Bowers and Wilkin stereo system
  • Apple CarPlay

Exterior
9.9/10

The 2021 McLaren 765LT promises to be a super high-performance car that has already made waves in the supercar world. This car's exterior is designed to have the best aerodynamics possible. Having been inspired by the 720S, the 765LT's aerodynamics are top-notch and will make it one of the fastest cars of 2021. With its sleek and aerodynamic design, it is faster than any other competitor in its segment.

It also has 4 titanium exhaust outlets at the back that produce a thrilling sound that will give goosebumps to any enthusiast. Moreover, it adds a lovely touch to the rear styling, as well. Although this vehicle was built for racing, its beauty can be appreciated by anyone. The McLaren 765LT is truly a work of art. In addition, the dihedral doors weighing almost 5.2 lbs each provide great ingress for the driver and co-passenger. In terms of automotive engineering, the 765LT is a redefining masterpiece.

The 2021 McLaren 765LT Coupe is the lightest vehicle in its segment, allowing it to gain extraordinary speed in a short time and have excellent braking performance. In terms of width, the 765LT Coupe is again the largest of all the other competitors. It is not clear what the 765LT Coupe's wheelbase is, but judging by its looks, it will be comparable to its rivals. Standout exterior features include:

  • Twin hinged dihedral doors
  • Polycarbonate C pillars
  • Carbon fiber body
  • 19.0-inch 10-spoke ultra-light forged alloy wheels
  • Quad titanium exhaust
  • Rear wing with air brake & automatic drag reduction system
  • Full LED headlights with static adaptive technology

Safety
8.0/10

The 2021 McLaren 765LT is a supercar with 755 hp on tap and goes from 0-60 in about 2.7 seconds. Owing to these high-power characteristics, it becomes very important for the car to be safe. While you can't find the driver assistance tech you find on a luxury sedan, it comes equipped with necessary track-oriented safety features. Moreover, neither the NHTSA nor the IIHS test supercars for crashworthiness. However, the McLaren cars have always been built to an exceptionally high standard. Based on those rigid bodies plus the collection of safety features, we can assume that it will be safe enough. Standout safety features include:

  • Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
  • Optional five-point harness
  • Proactive Chassis Control II suspension
  • Limit Downshift
  • Launch Control
  • Variable Drift Control
  • Hill Hold Assist
  • Engine Immobilizer
  • Emergency Braking Assist
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System

2021 McLaren 765LT Coupe vs 2021 Ferrari F8 Tributo

Both of these supercars are powered by powerful V8 engines. The Tributo, on the other hand, is Ferrari's first twin-turbo V8 vehicle. Both of them are primarily focused on speed and the best engineering in this industry. With its aerodynamic design and 711 horsepower, the Ferrari Tributo can go from 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds. McLaren has incorporated every possible design element that will reduce the car's weight. Carbon fibers are used to manufacture the entire cabin, and all the unnecessary design elements have been removed. It can go from 0-60 mph in about 2.7 seconds, which is among the segment's best.

2021 McLaren 765LT Coupe vs 2021 Lamborghini Huracan EVO RWD

The Huracan is designed with both performance and luxury in mind. As for the 765LT, it is purely track-focused. The 765LT follows a completely different tradition. It is rare, and it is the fastest and lightest vehicle in its segment. Additionally, McLaren offers buyers to cut down on some of the infotainment systems to reduce weight even further. The aerodynamic design of the 765LT is another example of an engineering marvel.

2021 McLaren 765LT Coupe vs 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series

Comparing the prices between these two vehicles, the difference is not enormous. However, the performance of the 765LT Coupe is superior to that of the GT Black Series. Therefore, if you are looking for more performance and one of those rare cars, then you should probably consider the McLaren 765LT Coupe. Nonetheless, you can consider the GT Black series if you need a little more comfort and luxury.

Final Verdict

Yes, the 2021 McLaren 765LT Coupe is a car based on their 720S model. But, the 765LT is rare and the production limit has been capped at 765 units only for the whole world. Its performance and tuning are also more superior to that of the 720S and its rivals too. The acceleration that it produces is tremendous, and it is the fastest car to ever have been produced in this decade. We can therefore conclude, based on all the factors, that you should definitely grab this limited 765LT if you can since this is an exclusive piece of machine to own.
