Jeep Renegade Buying Advice

For practicality and utilitarian reasons, the 2019 Jeep Renegade Limited trim is the best out there. People wishing to go the off-road route should definitely go for the Renegade Trailhawk trim, which is priced at $27,545, and only comes in a standard 4WD setup. Coming onto the older MYs available, the only viable MY you should go for is the 2018 Renegade, which gained plenty of additional features, unlike the previous Renegade models, which got no major changes.

Although it doesn’t come with a flashy interior, it promises a revamped engine lineup, with the 1.3L turbo-four engine replacing the 1.4L standard unit. This compact Jeep gives a comfortable ride with a decent and versatile interior. On the fuel economy front, despite the 22 MPG in the city and a 12.7-gallon fuel tank, the Renegade is the least fuel-efficient SUV in its class. For Sale in over 4 major trims, the 2019 Jeep Renegade goes up against the likes of Ford Escape, Honda HR-V, and the Mazda CX-3.

2019 Jeep Renegade for sale

The 2019 Jeep Renegade starts at a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $22,025 for the base Sport trim. Next in line is the 2019 Renegade Latitude trim, priced at $23,875, which is a good starting point, considering the list of features it houses including ambient LED lighting, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and also a couple of optional packages. The standard drivetrain setup is FWD, whereas for an AWD setup, you'd have to shell out an extra $1500. Based on listings, the average Used car rates for the 2019 Renegade range anywhere between $20,179 and $27,851. Also furthermore, the average five-year true cost to own rates rack up to $28,450.

Buying Advice

The latitude or limited trim are the ones that attract buyers as these offer a comfortable interior with an impressive infotainment system, unlike the base trim which is poorly equipped and also lacks standard safety features. The Trailhawk trim, priced at $27,795, is suitable for buyers looking for a performance-based off-road vehicle that comes equipped with additional features like skid plates, all-terrain tires, and a dedicated AWD system for a stress-free drive.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2019 Renegade offers the JEEP 4x4 system that is claimed to be among the best and offers impressive performance in different terrains. It also gets skid plates for the underbody and a 7-slot grille as new additions for the 2019 model. It also gets two engine choices, none of which are necessarily frugal in nature. Also, on the safety front, the Renegade does perform well enough, with impressive crash safety ratings. The prices begin at an MSRP of $22,025 for the base trim and it competes against the likes of more popular compact SUVs like the Ford Escape, Honda HR-V, and Mazda CX-3.

Buying Advice

The Renegade Latitude or Limited trim are the ones that attract buyers as these offer a comfortable interior with an impressive infotainment system, unlike the base trim which is poorly equipped and also lacks standard safety features. The Trailhawk trim, priced at $27,545, is suitable for buyers looking for a performance-based off-road vehicle that comes equipped with additional features like skid plates, all-terrain tires, and a dedicated AWD system for a stress-free drive.

Fuel Economy
4.0/10

The 2019 Renegade enters the market claiming a better fuel efficiency than the outgoing model with up to 30 MPG on the highway and 25 MPG combined. The 2019 model receives a 1.3-liter turbo-4 and also includes automatic stop/start which improves the Renegade's fuel economy to 32 MPG on the highway and 27 MPG of combined city and highway driving. The 4WD drivetrain reduces the fuel efficiency by just 1 MPG for both the engines, but the 12.7-gallon fuel tank is quite small as compared to its rivals and limits the driving range, thereby leading to frequent gas station trips.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the Renegade is outshined by almost all its rivals. The Mazda CX-3 offers 31 MPG of combined fuel economy, while the HR-V returns about 30 MPG. Only the Ford Escape has a lower fuel efficiency as compared to the Renegade. A smaller fuel tank and not-so-great fuel economy of the Renegade take a toll on its overall range which is the lowest in the segment while the Escape offers the largest gas tank here.

Interior
4.0/10

While the dashboard design is modern, the interior material quality featured in the 2019 Jeep Renegade is not something a lot of buyers will appreciate. It receives an impressive interior in terms of looks as the color and texture of the dashboard look impressive. Inside the cabin, there is plenty of space as expected from a Jeep. The front seats have spacious head and legroom and at the rear, the headroom is pretty spacious but the legroom feels a bit compromised. The cabin offers impressive noise insulation from engine noise but the wind noise is still an issue. It gets a decent storage stash for cups, phones, and devices and in addition to that an adjustable cargo floor.

The rear seats can be folded to create more cargo space. Features like a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, power-adjustable driver's seat, and cloth upholstery offer additional comfort while driving. In-cabin space offered by the Renegade is not the most spacious among its rivals, with the Honda HR-V leading the pack in terms of passenger space. In terms of cargo volume, the Ford Escape tops the segment with 34 cubic feet while the Jeep is far behind with only 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row. The CX-3 on the other hand offers similar cabin space as that of the Renegade but has a tiny trunk to offer.

The system enables several features like Siri, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM Guardian with Voice Command Compatibility. Advanced features like SiriusXM traffic plus helps fetch details of road traffic and road closures. The 2019 Renegade gets a 9-speaker Beats audio system with Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

Exterior
7.0/10

The Jeep Renegade received impressive exterior design upgrades in the 2019 model. The front fascia and updated grille details of the 2019 Renegade make quite a few heads turn. The new LED package looks really attractive and gives it a premium Jeep look. The X- featured taillights also look unique and suit the SUV’s character. The 2019 Jeep Renegade receives stylish round headlights and the signature seven-slot Jeep grille. The 18-inch aluminum polished wheels look great on the side profile of the vehicle. It also gets a black roof and deep tinted rear glass, giving it a classy look.

The short wheelbase and 8-inch of ground clearance together translate to great capabilities off the tarmac. Talking about the external dimensions, the Renegade is the widest and the tallest among its competitors whereas the Ford Escape is the Longest. The Escape is also the heaviest and also offers one of the best ground clearances in the segment, on par with the Renegade. The CX-3 rides the lowest to the ground but is also the lightest in this comparison.

Competition
6.0/10

2019 Jeep Renegade Vs 2019 Ford Escape

The Ford Escape is among the best-selling SUVs in the US market and is well known for offering high reliability to its buyers. Although the Ford beats the Renegade in terms of performance, the Jeep outshines the Ford in terms of cabin space and cargo space. However, the Escape is not just value for money but also boasts segment-leading capabilities and performance. Having said that, the Ford Escape may be a little expensive over the Renegade, but it proves to be a tough competition for the Jeep.

2019 Jeep Renegade Vs 2019 Honda HR-V

The Honda HR-V is known for its supreme reliability and premium cabin. It also boasts impressive power and torque output but it is the Renegade that outruns the Honda in this particular area. The Jeep outshines the Honda in terms of engine performance and cabin space, while the fuel economy of the Honda is still better compared to the Jeep. However, if someone is looking for a comfortable and fuel-efficient compact SUV, then the HR-V is the way to go, while people who crave off-road performance should consider the Renegade.

Final Verdict
8.0/10

With the 2019 model upgrade the Jeep Renegade receives various new features that appeal to the buyers. With a decent ride quality, the handling is easy and attracts a lot of enthusiasts with its off-road capability. Its unconventional box-like exterior still gives off a Jeep vibe. Along with its attractive features and styling the small SUV does have some big drawbacks in terms of safety, scoring just average in various safety tests. This sub-compact SUV is an appropriate choice for urban use and for people hungry for some off-road adventure. The 2019 Jeep Renegade offers strong and versatile performance with loads of features on a budget most can afford.
