The Hyundai Sonata performs pretty week in this regard. The EPA says that this sedan should return 25 MPG in the city, 36 MPG on a highway, and 29 MPG combined. Those who want to save more money should go for the Eco trim as it gives 28 MPG in the city and 37 MPG on a highway with a combined mileage of 31 MPG.

With the top-of-the-line 2.0L engine equipped, the combined mileage is around 26 MPG, which is still good for the power it makes. Owing to its large fuel tank, the Sonata delivers 601 miles combined in its most efficient form. The base engine's driving range is calculated to be 564 miles while the 2.0L engine has the lowest combined range of 509 miles.

The Toyota Camry is the most fuel-efficient sedan in this segment. It returns 5 MPG combined more than the Sonata with its base engine, though packing a powerful engine. 2018 Hyundai Sonata Seating and Comfort

The Hyundai Sonata's interiors strike a nice balance between function and style. In typical Hyundai fashion, the cabin doesn't wow occupants with futuristic or fancy materials. Most of the interior trim is hard plastic but nice graining and metal pieces add some flair. This five-seater comes standard with cloth upholstery but leather seats are available from the Sport trim onwards. The front seats are comfortable for a wide variety of body types.

They have tons of space and lots of adjustments to get comfortable behind the wheel. Getting into the rear seat does require some ducking but at least the entryway is good-sized. The back seats are generous for the class and offer a comfortable seatback angle. They are still spacious but not quite as roomy primarily in terms of legroom. Still, normal-sized adults should be perfectly fine. Overall, the cabin feels modern and accommodates passengers nicely.

The Honda Accord's cabin is the most spacious here and its interior quality is better than the Sonata. The space levels in the Mazda 6 and the Toyota Camry are almost the same but Mazda uses premium materials in its cabin while the Camry uses a lot of hard plastics like the Sonata.

The infotainment duties in the Hyundai Sonata are handled by the Blue Link 7-inch touchscreen display. The interface is simple to understand and user-friendly. There is a lot to like about the simplicity of this touchscreen because it has physical shortcut buttons to help you jump between menus as well as physical volume and tuning knobs. There's also support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

A 6-speaker stereo is standard but it can be upgraded to an 8-speaker Infinity premium sound system. An 8-inch version of the screen is standard on the Limited 2.0T trim and optional on all trims. There is an unambiguous separation between climate and audio controls. All those controls are easy to reach from the driver's seat. 2018 Hyundai Sonata Cargo Volume

The Hyundai Sonata continues to impress in this field as well. You get 16.3 cubic feet of cargo space which is right near the top of the class. Four bags could easily fit inside, perfect for a small family. The cargo floor is flat, allowing for the storage of more items. Of course, you can fold down the rear seats for even more space.

There's a nice trunk opening to make it easy to get stuff in and out. A hands-free tailgate is included in all but the base SE trim. Note that the rear seats don't fold completely flat. The loading lip is flat which means that that it is easy to load heavy items into the trunk. The low leftover height also comes in handy for easy cargo loading.

The Honda Accord's trunk is slightly more spacious than the Sonata but that's not much of a concern. The cargo space offered in the Mazda 6 is average for the class. But, it turns out that the Toyota Camry is the least practical vehicle in this class. Therefore, the Sonata makes a good option for a family sedan.

The Hyundai Sonata is new from pretty much every angle this year and it's still a nice-looking sedan. The most notable change in terms of design is the front fascia. The new hexagonal grille also called for a change in the design of the headlights and limited the space with the fog lights. The new Sonata looks aggressive and harmonious even though the grille might be reminiscent of some Audi models. The wheel options of the Sonata include 16, 17, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The low ground clearance makes it easy to get in and out of the vehicle.

The Sonata has the shortest wheelbase in this competition. A nice design touch is the chrome line which starts from the front of the car and goes all the way through the doors and ends at the back window. The Mazda 6 sits 1.2 inches higher than the Sonata. Therefore, the drivers can be prepared for driving over high bumps. The wide wheelbase of the Toyota Camry results in better legroom in the rear row. Great Value for the Money!

Pros - ["Great value for the money - love the features for the SE with touchscreen stereo and Apple Play, etc.", "Great gas mileage!"]

Cons - ["4 cylinder is a little sluggish but to be expected I guess - or I wouldn't save money on gas!", "Wish the fog lights on the SE were a little brighter."]

This is my first Hyundai and originally looking for an Elantra with the value package but not able to find anything close to me with what I was looking for but the Sonata was available. Very impressed with the features the car has for the money. Power everything and a nice touchscreen stereo with Apple Play...great climate control system and dash layout.
