This car has so overdesigned for "safety" that it is dangerous. The automatic parking break causes dangerous situations when trying to pull into traffic when it decides to not disengage. The loud and sudden lane change warnings are shocking and cause driver to pause when that is a greater danger. And manyRead More

Other high points is the smoothness of the transmission shifting and the lack of any problems in sixteen months except its pull to the right, prominent since factory delivery and continuing after a front end alignment. The Hyundai Palisade ranks 6th in our class of SUVs and is a befitting option for those looking for a family hauler. It resonates with practicality and with the 2022 Palisade price starting at around $32,000, the midsize SUValso finds its position as an affordable proposition. It is cavernous in its build and bestows ample space and comfort in the third row as well. However, the Palisade’s oneness lies in its comprehensive trim structure. It comes with a bevy of standard features and being a fresh inclusion, it also feeds into the demands of the tech-savvy buyers.

The 2022 Hyundai Palisade is a carryover model from the previous iteration, but it does add a few new standard safety features. While it remains the enticing option it has always been, the Palisade is now a more sensible option. It might have had abundant complaints against its name, yet the Korean SUV’s J.D. Power ratings of 77 out of a possible 100 speak volumes about the quality and reliability of the SUV. In its segment, the Palisade competes with the likes of the Nissan Pathfinder, the Toyota Highlander, and the Kia Telluride.

2022 Hyundai Palisade User Recalls and Problems

The 2022 Hyundai Palisade has 9 complaints registered to its name as of the date we write this article. However, since the SUV is a part of a similar generation launched in 2020, buyers need to be aware of all the problems that have affected the SUV. Into its third year of production, the Palisade has had roughly 275 complaints, 50% of which relate to its structural components. Listed are niggles and issues that have commonly irked the buyers of the SUV.

Mechanical Complaints

  • Excessive shuddering: Most commonly noted in 2020 MY, buyers of the Hyundai Palisade have reported the vehicle to shudder excessively at higher speeds. Though there is no known cause, the vibrations from the vehicle pass onto the steering wheel, which makes it difficult for the driver to easily control the SUV. While there have been no noted cases in the latest iterations, the possibility of recurrence of the issue cannot be eliminated, as the vehicle continues to be built on a similar platform as its debut iterations.

Exterior Complaints

  • Improper functioning of the front wipers: In snowstorms or areas with excessive snowfall, complainants have reported the failure of the front wipers to perform their function. While the issue is caused by the accumulation of snow near the wiper region, the problem is a known safety hazard as it restricts the driver’s visibility.

Safety Complaints

  • Improper functioning of the airbag system: In 2020 MY, some buyers of the Hyundai Palisade have reported the malfunctioning of the airbag system. In cases where a crash has happened, the airbags have failed to deploy, resulting in injuries to the passengers.

Interior Complaints

  • Problems with the seat belts: Classified under interior complaints, the issues with the seat belts of the Hyundai Palisade are manifold. While some complainants have reported the inability of the seat belts to buckle properly, others have reported the unbuckling to happen without any input. In either case, the belts might not restrain an occupant properly, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Cabin lacks tranquility: Several buyers of the Hyundai Palisade have reported a whistling noise inside the cabin, which originates from the driver’s door. The issue is recorded to happen at speeds above 60 mph. While the brand is cognizant of the issue, there has been no definitive solution that has yet been introduced.

Electric System Complaints

  • Malfunctioning rearview camera: When the vehicle is put in reverse, buyers of the Hyundai Palisade have reported the improper functioning of the rearview camera. The camera fails to display an image when in operation, which is followed by the screen turning blue. As a result, users lose control of basic infotainment functionalities and remain unaware of their surroundings, which increases the chance of a crash.
  • Poor Apple CarPlay connection: Not as rampant as other complaints mentioned above, buyers of the 2021 Hyundai Palisade have reported the Apple CarPlay to disconnect occasionally. While both Hyundai and Apple are aware of the issue, there have not been any updates provided to the buyers for the resolution of this problem. Additionally, the Palisade is not the only vehicle affected by the problem, several other vehicles from variegated brands have found themselves suffering from a similar issue.

Structural Complaints

  • Explosion of sunroof: In several cases across all three model years, buyers of the Hyundai Palisade have reported the sunroof to explode without any impact or incidence. Complainants have recorded an explosion sound, which is followed by the shattering of the glass panel into pieces. While it is a rampant issue, the Hyundai Palisade sunroof issues are not uncommon for the brand.
  • Cracking of windshield: The 2021 Hyundai Palisade windshield issue is yet another problem with the build quality of the SUV. Buyers of the Palisade have reported the chipping and cracking of its windshield. Even at the slightest inconvenience, buyers have reported the windscreen to develop large cracks, which obstruct the visibility of the driver.

The problems with Hyundai Palisade have steadily decreased over the years. While in its debut iteration the SUV had a whopping 175 complaints, the 2021 MY had around 80 complaints registered to its name. So, with improving performances, we expect the 2022 Palisade to emerge victorious in the segment and record a lesser number of complaints compared to all of its rivals.

2022 Hyundai Palisade Recalls

Compared to its complaints, the Hyundai Palisade’s recall list seems bounded and restricted. While the 2022 MY has remained scot-free as of now, the previous iterations have only been called back twice. While this does put the SUV in almost an idealistic position, the Korean has not introduced any recall for the most recurring concerns, which relate to the explosion of its sunroof and cracking of the windshield. Nonetheless, it is important to be cognizant of the recalls that have been initiated by the brand and their implications on the ownership experience.

Compared to its contemporaries, the 2022 Hyundai Palisade has no recalls to its name. Even its Japanese rival, the 2022 Toyota Highlander delivers a similar level of performance. However, the 2022 Kia Telluride, with which the Palisade shares its underpinnings has been called back once. Thisrecall of the SUV relates to its malfunctioning information panel cluster and has affected around 5,000 units of the vehicle. On the other hand, the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder lurks at the bottom of the table with 4 recalls to its name.

Which Hyundai Palisade model year should you avoid?

The Hyundai Palisade has been largely convincing in its performance. In its three years on the market, the midsize SUV has adhered to the Korean standards of reliability. Though it has had its fair share of complaints and problems, the Palisade has proven its worth as a dependable proposition. However, not all of the SUVs model years are equally enticing. Amongst the available options, we would recommend buyers stay wary of the 2020 Hyundai Palisade. In its debut iteration, the SUV has 175 complaints registered to its name, which is more than any other model year.

Should you buy a used Hyundai Palisade?

The Hyundai Palisade is an affordable offering and provides ample value for money in the segment that it falls. It is easy to drive and despite its sizable dimensions, the SUV remains largely maneuverable. It comes packed to the hilt with class-leading features and whether or not you avail them, its optional packages add an element of lucrativeness to the SUV. However, the Palisade’s top-notch safety ratings and a high appetite for reliability aptly define its capabilities. So, if you are in the market for a family-oriented SUV that is both pragmatic and trustworthy, a new or used Palisade can be a handy option.
