2022 Honda Civic Si

2022 Civic Si is a standalone car available in two variants- Civic Si and Civic Si HPT. The latter only swaps out the standard All-weather tires for High Performance Tires for $200 more. Standard features include a manual front seat wrapped in black cloth upholstery with red accents, leather wrapped steering wheel, 12-speaker Bose premium sound system, 9” touch screen display, automatic headlights, Honda Sensing suite and more.

Buying Advice

Since there is only one option to choose from, that’s the only way to go. However, Honda is also offering high-performance summer tires for an extra $200. If you want a track ready car, add that to your shopping cart. There are no notable optional packages to choose from except some body kits and interior protection package.

Price

As we mentioned earlier, the Civic Si is a standalone car. Since the 2022 Civic Si is on an all-new generation, the pricing has gone up by $2000. It now starts at a price tag of $27,300. Moreover, you get the High Performance Tires (HPT) variant for an additional $200.

2022 Honda Civic Si comes equipped with a retuned 1.5L turbo inline-4 pumping out 200 horses and 192 lb-ft torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission and comes in standard FWD drivetrain configuration. Even though the power has technically been reduced by 5 hp as compared to the last generation, Honda claims to have improved throttle response by using a lighter single-mass flywheel. Also, the gearbox now has 10% shorter throws for quicker shifts. It also comes with a rev-matching system that was previously available only in the Civic Type-R.

Driving the 2022 Civic Si is very enjoyable. The chassis has been tuned quite well to make sure that the Civic Si can glide along corners and on the highway with ease. Peak torque is now achieved at much lower revs (300rpm lower to be exact). This means the car revs eagerly without much lag. Apart from the Normal mode and Sport mode, Honda also added Individual mode for better control over the car.

Coming to the acceleration part, the 2022 Civic Si can hit 0- 60 MPH in 6.8 seconds and cover the quarter mile in approximately 15 seconds. Even though the timings are slower than the previous gen, the difference is negligible. Moreover, the retuned engine offers much better economy and NVH levels have been reduced significantly; this sounds like a good trade-off. Speaking of braking performance, the vehicle comes standard with 12.3-inch ventilated disc brakes at the front and 11.1-inch solid disc brakes at the rear. When the brakes are slammed at 60MPH, the car comes to a stop within 122 feet. The brakes have a hard bite and become spongy at consecutive hard braking.

On paper, the 2022 Civic Si is the weakest, but in reality, it isn’t actually as bad as it looks. The Civic Si can hold its own against the others in the list, despite putting out the least power. In fact, it is significantly faster than the Kia Forte GT. Mazda 3 Turbo is the most powerful in the lot and holds a power card under its sleeve- topping the fuel tank with premium gasoline significantly improves power figures. 2022 Mazda3 Turbo is also the only car in the lot that comes with an automatic gearbox and AWD drivetrain configuration as standard, while the rest of the lot come with standard 6-speed manual transmission. VW Jetta GLI and Kia Forte GT also offer an optional automatic transmission unit. 

The fuel efficiency of the new Civic Si is commendable and EPA rated it at 27 MPG for city driving, 37 MPG for highway driving and 31 MPG for combined. Since there is no other variant, no other powertrain or engine on offer, this is the universal figure for all Si(s) out there. We must say that the powertrain is pretty fuel efficient for the power it provides. While it can run on regular unleaded gasoline, Honda recommends premium gasoline for better performance. As standard, the vehicle comes with a small 12.4-gallon gas tank. Doing the math, on a full tank, you should get a range of around 334 miles in the city and 458 miles on the highway

The 2022 Civic Si is the most frugal among the four in the list. The Jetta GLI despite sporting a much larger engine also offers an amazing fuel economy, narrowly trailing the Civic. Moreover, thanks to the Jetta’s bigger fuel tank, it gets a better range overall. The Mazda3 Turbo and Forte GT also offer decent fuel economy but not as good as the other two.

Coming to the interior, the 2022 Civic Si distinguishes itself from the regular Civic with a sporty theme and color to match. Not only is the design very eye-candy, it is also quite ergonomic and easy to use. All the controls and dials are placed within easy reach of the driver. The dash looks quite modern and it also features a metal honeycomb panel which truly accentuates the sporty theme. For 2022 MY, the infotainment unit has been upgraded to a larger 9-inch touchscreen unit. Overall, the interior is clean, uncluttered and minimalistic. The choices of materials are decent and durability is one major perk that comes along with the Honda brand.

Speaking of materials, the 2022 Civic Si comes with a black and red cloth upholstery as the standard and only option for the interior. However, don’t be too disappointed, as you get a leather-wrapped steering wheel, sporty pedals, metal-look interior accents, leather gear shifter material and more as standard. We would have liked a list of options to upgrade to, but sadly Honda does not offer us that. Coming to the seating space, the vehicle comes with manually-adjustable racing inspired Si sport front seats.The seats come with an adequate amount of padding for better support and comfort. However, Honda removed the heated seats from the feature list. At the rear, you get 60/40 split fold down seat backs along with a center armrest. The rear row can seat three average-sized adults without much complaint. 

That’s all well and good, but what’s there to keep you entertained? At the center of the dash, there is a new 9” touchscreen display sticking out which acts as your primary infotainment system. The system is not groundbreaking, but it is certainly responsive and intuitive. Also, you get the modern infotainment chops which include Wireless Apple CarPlay, Wireless Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD radio, Bluetooth, HondaLink, SMS text function, USB ports and more. Sound duties are handled by a 12-speaker Bose Premium sound system as standard.

Finally, coming to the cargo trunk, you get about 14.4 cubes of storage space. The figure is decent for a compact sports sedan. This is enough to stuff all of your weekly groceries at one go. If you need more space, you can always knock the 60/40-split rear seats down.

The 2022 Kia Forte GT and the 2022 Honda Civic Si are the frontrunners in this list in terms of space and cargo capacity. The Forte, in particular, traded second row seating space for better cargo capacity. Speaking of interior design and styling, the new redesigned interior on the 2022 Civic Si looks more sporty and appealing. However, if luxury is your priority, Mazda 3 Turbo has a more premium vibe to it. Even the Jetta GLI offers a better set of comfort features than the Honda.

Thanks to the 11th gen upgrade, the 2022 Civic Si gets a fresh new look along the lines of the Accord. The design is very unrestrictive, and looks more bold than before. The headlights are now sleeker than ever, with a long horizontal design and the LED DRLs also look meaner and more stylish than ever before. Honda has implemented a new honeycomb grille design which appears quite cool, but the grille is pretty narrow. However, we definitely love the new and aggressive front bumper design that fits quite well with the new redesign. Moreover, the hood has been lowered and both the A and C-pillars have been made thinner to reduce blind spots; this provides better visibility. There are also muscular lines flowing from the front to the back, and the sloping roofline beautifully complements that. 

Talking about the roof, a one touch power moonroof is offered as standard to illuminate the interior and provide an airy atmosphere. Moving to the rear, the sloping roofline gently flows into the rear fascia, where you can find curved shaped LED tail lights. A gloss black lip spoiler is also offered as standard along with dual chrome exhaust tailpipes which truly accentuate the sporty vibes. Moreover, the car rides on 18” matte black alloy wheels and as we mentioned before, you can also choose to get the HPT (high-performance summer tires) for $200 extra.

Every car in the above competition is unique design wise. Even though all of them look good in their own right, we still think that the 2022 Mazda3 Turbo looks the coolest, followed by the Jetta GLI. The new Forte GT also looks quite aggressive and a lot sportier like the Civic Si, but beauty is subjective. However, what is not subjective is the fact that the Civic SI is the lightest car among the four and it also has the longest wheelbase. The Forte GT is also nearly as light, while the other two are a bit heavier.

The 2022 Civic Si has been rated 5 stars by NHTSA with 5-star roll over rating and roll over risk of 9.5%. IIHS reviewed the regular Civic and since the Civic Si is based on the same platform, these ratings hold good. It scored Good in all tests and earned the “Top Safety Pick+” award. We have absolutely no doubt that the Civic Si would perform any less. 

The Japanese sedan comes loaded with Honda Sensing suite as standard without asking for an extra penny. The standard features include blind spot information system, collision mitigation braking system, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, back-up camera, front collision mitigation, driver monitoring alert and all the other basic features. Talking about the rivals, all of them offer similar features as well. Mazda3 also comes with Smart Brake Support.

2022 Honda Civic Si vs 2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI

The 2022 Jetta GLI definitely offers more power as compared to the Civic Si, and it is also faster off the line. Both are pretty engaging to drive and both offer the thrill of manual transmission. However, the Civic is more practical and more spacious than the VW, albeit not by much. But, when it comes to looks, we slightly prefer the Jetta GLI over the Civic Si but that is entirely subjective.

2022 Honda Civic Si vs 2022 Kia Forte GT

The Kia Forte GT is brand new for 2022, just like the Civic Si. It now looks a lot meaner, sportier and more aggressive than ever before. Apart from the looks, the power and performance is almost on the same level, but the Civic Si is more engaging to drive. In terms of practicality, the Forte GT beats out the Civic. Moreover, it costs significantly less and offers better value for money.

2022 Honda Civic Si vs 2022 Mazda Mazda3 2.5 Turbo

The 2022 Mazda 3 2.5 Turbo is significantly more powerful than the Civic Si, and it is also faster. Mazdas are known for their driving experience and this car is not an exception. It also appears a lot cooler and sleeker than the Civic Si. But the Honda is way more practical and also efficient than the Mazda and it comes with a lower price tag. Both are excellent choices in our opinion.

The 2022 Honda Civic Si is all-new and now offers better and more engaging driving experience than the previous model. Yes, Honda has reduced the power figures in this new model, but at the same time, they have made noticeable changes to improve the handling characteristics. The interior also gets a fresher look and the exterior has been completely redesigned to present a meaner and more sporty appeal. It also comes packed with lots of driver assistance features and modern creature comforts as standard. Practicality is another huge plus for the Japanese sedan. Overall, the new 2022 Civic Si is a little underpowered compared to rivals, but it is no less than its competition.
