The Honda Accord is an age-old name that is, unlike other names, still relevant today in the family sedan segment. The Japanese car starts at $24,675 and goes against the likes of the Toyota Camry and the Nissan Altima. The Accord has been the priority for American families with mounting sales on a year-on-year basis but has also accumulated a truckload of complaints. The 2019 Accord has raked in the most numbers due to faulty forward collision avoidance. The sedan is also criticized for fuel pump issues and the dodgy electrical niggles. It also sees three recalls for the said model year. Let’s see what issues the owners had to get through and why the car was recalled so many times.
2019 Honda Accord Problems
Electrical issues:
- Rodent issues: People have reported rodents chewing the soy-based layering of the wiring harness. This leads the harness open to the elements. People have reported numerous electrical issues arising due to this while driving.
- Infotainment issues: Some people have reported the infotainment system going blank or freezing. This causes the whole unit to malfunction and cause a distraction while driving. This issue can be seen on the instrument cluster as well. The whole cluster blanks out and does not show crucial information.
- Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) failure: The Accord ANC failure has been a rampant issue which also couples with the Accord speaker issues. Both the issues disturb the inner NVH levels while driving and c might induce nausea. The speakers are said to give out a constant hum which is said to lead to headaches.
Mechanical issues:
- Engine misfires: Many people have noticed their 2018 Accord sputtering to a halt after entering Limp Mode. The people had to then get their car towed to the local dealership. Upon investigation, the dealerships have reported a misfire in the 1st and the 4th cylinder. These issues commanded immediate repairs or engine replacement.
- Fuel pump issues: There have been numerous complaints regarding failure in the Accord fuel pump. People have time and again reported the car stalling due to insufficient fuel supply to the engine. There have also been numerous complaints regarding the car not starting, even after 10 cranks, due to insufficient fuel supply. Honda has recalled the Accord twice for the fuel pump issues that can be referenced via NHTSA Campaign Numbers 20V314000 and 21V215000.
- Steering issues: People have reported the steering wheel to lose its alignment at very low mileage, sometimes as low as 500 miles. The loss in alignment leads to handling issues and difficulties. It has also given issues with the respective safety assistance features as well.
- Transmission issues: People have reported issues with the Accord’s transmission. There are numerous reports of unintended acceleration reported at low speeds. These reports are there at highway speeds as well. The transmission is also reported to shudder at low speeds and stall the engine.
Exterior issues:
- Windshield pressure cracks: The Accord windshield is reported to crack due to stress. These cracks appear out of nowhere and are mostly found near the edge of the frame on the front passenger side.
Safety issues:
- Forward Collision-Avoidance (FCA) issues: The most commonly reported issue in the 2019 Accord has to be with its FCA system. The system is reported to engage automatically and activate the automatic emergency braking of the car. There have been numerous rear-end collisions reported due to this automatic engagement, some requiring immediate medical attention.

Should you buy the 2019 Honda Accord?
The 2019 Honda Accord has an underlying issue with its fuel pump and forward collision avoidance system but it is nothing to be worried about. The fuel pump issue has been recalled twice and the FCA issue is nothing but a software fix. Considering these easily-available fixes, we’d say the Accord is a superb buy in the segment. If you want to go for a used one, go through the recalls history and also see for a proper maintenance record.
