The rear window leaks water before the car hits 3000 miles and I am still waiting on replacement parts to replace the molded parts inside . Super low quality control, stay away .

Although it might not be one of the most unique cars ever in the automotive market, the 2021 Honda Accord still has a lot of attributes that make it the perfect family sedan. It has always been one to experiment with new technology but in a way that reliability is never affected. This can be seen from its estimated maintenance costs which are projected to be $1,485 for five years which is low by category standards.

It also gets a J.D. Power predicted reliability score of 82 out of 100 which translates to ‘Great’ according to their standards. While this offers peace of mind to buyers, there are a few things that even Honda owners need to watch out for. Check out the video below from "Honda Jon" about the 10th gen Accord and how to avoid major repair expenses.

2021 Honda Accord User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical problems:

  1. One owner reported that the vehicle stops accelerating without any warning even though the driver keeps pushing the pedal. The incident was reported to the Honda dealer but there was no follow-up from the dealer.
  2. One owner stated that the brakes as well as the steering failed completely while driving. The vehicle had to hit the roadside barrier to come to stop and there was nothing that could be done. This is a known complaint in the list of Honda Accord steering problems.
  3. One contact stated that while driving the rear right brake started behaving very abnormally. It produced a screeching sound that was too loud to bear.
  4. Few owners have been affected by Honda Accord transmission problems where the gears have a big delay in shifting or sometimes resist shifting completely.

Electrical system problems:

  1. One owner states that the navigation system in the car has a lot of problems. It fails to show the right direction and does not recognize Home coordinates.
  2. There was an unfortunate incident where the steering wheel pulled a full lock to the right when entering a parking space and when the driver responded by pressing the brakes, the car accelerated and hit another car.

Exterior problems:

  1. There have been complaints about the rear glass shattering even without any impact directly affecting them. The issue seems to be badly tempered glass.
  2. A few owners have faced paint chipping problems in their brand new cars.
  3. One owner had a complaint about the door locks in the Accord failing to operate as required.
  4. One owner had faced constant problems with the tire pressure level. The dealership refused to take it seriously and simply refilled the tires every time. Soon enough, the tire had completely separated from the sidewall.

Safety problems:

  1. A few owners have reported that the forward collision avoidance system is engaged for no reason. The car brakes even when there are no obstacles and this can be the cause of a rear-end collision. This seems to be the most common Honda Accord brake system problem and has caused a lot of trouble.
  2. The lane departure warning has also faced criticism in this car for sounding warnings when there are no vehicles in the blind spot.

Interior problems:

  1. One owner reported that the vehicle’s windows produce dark circles intermittently. The dealer identified it was due to wrong tinting if windows but failed to rectify the issue. Other owners have reported distortions in the glass as well.
  2. Active noise cancellation is another known problem area. It produces a humming noise that does not go away.

Should you buy the 2021 Honda Accord?

The 2021 Honda Accord is a car that feels nice to drive while also being quite luxurious. It is quite cheap on the pocket but has a set of known problems that Honda has not addressed through recalls yet. It is one that is fuel-efficient, practical, spacious, high on technology, and decent to look at. We believe there needs to be a fix for the Honda Accord battery drain problem which has not been covered above. If it manages to bring necessary updates in the upcoming years, the car will be a good buy.
