My Toyota Tundra Sport TRD is a lemon, it has severe vibration issues felt through the entire truck and through the steering wheel it's there at lower speeds but severe at speeds over 55 MPH it's almost scary to drive above 75 MPH, Toyota wouldn't payRead More

... mpg. abysmal. Especially when Chevy, Ford, And Ram are starting to see well over 20 mpg in their 1/2 ton pick up trucks. Toyota needs to step up to the plate and start spending some of their money on improving outdated technology. If Toyota offered better fuel economy, a 6.5' bed option with a few inches taken out of the crewmax, and spent some moneyRead More

... a Tundra that will get good fuel economy. Every other pickup truck on the road gets substantially better fuel economy. It’s definitely a tried and true engine but with all the technology we have something could be done. Read More

Tundra is Toyota’s alternative to the ever-popular big American trucks. While the 2020 Tundra CrewMax is fine if you just want to get from point A to point B, it still doesn’t come close to its American counterparts. Primarily, that is because this Japanese truck is quite old and outdated. Moreover, Toyota has seemed reluctant to give it a much-needed upgrade. Despite that, it is still a Toyota, and even if sales aren’t that great, the reliability is pretty good.

The 2020 Tundra has about 24 complaints, which is pretty low for a truck at this price point. Also, there have been 5 recalls for the truck, as of now. 2020 Toyota Tundra CrewMax comes with a price tag of $35,170 and it competes mostly against Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, and RAM 1500 Classic.

User Complaints for the 2020 Toyota Tundra CrewMax

Mechanical Complaints

  • Engine – There aren’t many complaints with regards to the engine, but one user did report that their truck’s engine produces abnormal noises while driving at low speeds. It was taken to the dealer but not fixed. Moreover, a couple of complaints stated that the engine won’t start, or it would take a few tries to get the engine started when it is over 100F outside.
  • Brakes – Complaints about the brakes state the brake controller and calipers broke for two users. And they had to purchase a spare and get it repaired, costing them money. Another user complains that their truck once had an issue with the ABS actuator.
  • Steering – There are three complaints about the steering. All of them stated that while driving at 60-70 MPH, the steering would vibrate strongly and the hotter it gets, the stronger the vibration would be.
  • Fuel/Propulsion System – Few complaints state that the Tundra would stop in the middle of the road while driving at 40-50 MPH. Also, a message has been displayed saying “not enough fuel”, even though that wasn’t actually the case.

Safety Complaints

  • Airbags – One complaint stated that a dump truck hit the front of his Tundra and the airbags did not deploy. The owner was driving at around 55 MPH with a trailer attached. This crash also caused 2 injuries.

Electronics

  • Exterior Lighting – Two users stated that the front turn signals are too dim and are not fit for use during the day.

Turn signals are not bright enough/ FMVSS 108

Due to a wiring error, the front turn signals may not flash brightly enough. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." If the turn signals or hazard lamps do not flash brightly enough, other drivers may fail to see that the turn signal or hazard lamp functions have been activated, increasing the risk of a crash.

Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will modify the wire harness connected to the front turn signal bulbs free of charge.

Fuel Pump may fail

The low-pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail and the engine can stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump assembly with an improved one, free of charge. Remedy parts should be available for all affected vehicles by late March 2021.

Dealers will modify the engine wire harness assembly and replace any damaged bulb, bulb connector, and/or headlight assembly as necessary, free of charge.

Should you buy the 2020 Toyota Tundra CrewMax?

2020 Tundra CrewMax definitely has fewer complaints than other popular trucks. And being a Toyota, you can always count and rely on it. However, that being said, the truck doesn’t really perform on par with the other American trucks at this price point. Also, they have become quite reliable over the years as well. So, even though the Tundra is not plagued with problems, we would still suggest otherwise.
