Overview

The 2022 Toyota Avalon comes with a few changes this year. Toyota has announced this model year to be Avalon's last, with production ending in August 2022. Countdown begins for the shoppers, though the 2022 Avalon has discontinued its optional AWD along with the TRD and the XSE Nightshade trims. The Toyota Avalon lineup shrinks to 3 trim levels including the XLE, Limited, and the Touring, starting at a base price of $36,275. The large sedan will remain in the production line with the same 301 hp 3.5L V-6 engine in standalone FWD configuration. Also, Toyota's reputation and Avalon's hallmark comfort, spacious interiors, loaded features, and great fuel economy of 26 MPG makes it a mainstream choice.

Leasing the 2022 Avalon costs $602/month for 36 months alongside a down payment of $3,252. Moreover, there is a 2022 Toyota Avalon Hybrid in the inventory as well that's relatively more fuel efficient with 44 MPG. In addition to these, it has been released at the dealerships with 8 exterior colors and 3 interior accents against the shares of the VW Arteon, Chrysler 300, and the Dodge Charger.

Buying Advice

The Touring trim is the one to choose from the available lineup. The heat and ventilation functioned seats and 14-speaker JBL Premium Audio as standards are just in perfect sync to make the interior as convenient and engaging as possible. The added 4-mode switch (ECO, Normal/Custom, Sport, Sport+) and Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system further give it a slight head start against its siblings in its overall driving persona and handling prowess with a considerable price hike.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

"The 2022 Avalon accommodates both the comfort-oriented driver and the one who wants a few thrills behind the wheel." - MotorTrend

The 2022 Toyota Avalon is a carry-over model with no major changes and this large sedan is in its last production year. The 2022 Avalon's lineup has been reduced to 3 trims,  starting from the XLE priced at $36,275 and going up to to $42,975 for the range-topping Touring. The 301 hp 3.5L V-6 is standard that allows this full-size sedan to dash from zero to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. At the same time, the sedan manages 26 MPG fuel economy ratings, which is great. Moreover, it has scored a J.D.Power rating of 80, establishing the Toyota's Reliability Index aptly.

Regarding its finances, the 2022 Avalon resale value depreciates to nearly $17,000 after 5 years. The fuel cost, on the other hand, estimates to be $8,669 and maintenance charges $4,501 for the same 5-year period.  Apart from this, the insurance fee comes out to be $4,725 in totality. Therefore, the total cost to own an Avalon in 2022 is nearly $40,598, at the least, exclusive of destination and handling charges.

Safety

"The Avalon has lots of standard convenience and safety features." - cars.usnews

The 2022 Toyota Avalon has got no safety rating yet from the NHTSA and IIHS. However, it is a mechanical continuation of the 2021 model year, so the 5-star NHTSA and "Good" rating are going to be achieved quite easily. But that also means that it will still be missing the "Top Safety Pick" award. To complement such structural resilience, some safety features have been mentioned that assist:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS with PD)
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA)
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
  • Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA)
  • Bird’s Eye View Camera with Perimeter Scan (Advanced Safety Package)
  • Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS) with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking (RCTB) (Advanced Safety Package)

The 2022 Toyota Avalon has better acceleration and performance surge than the 2022 VW Arteon. The cabin space management is also superior in the former. Avalon also offers a decent fuel economy. Therefore, one can definitely prefer Toyota here.

2022 Toyota Avalon vs 2022 Chrysler 300

Except for the range practicality, the 2022 Chrysler 300 misses to outclass the 2022 Toyota Avalon in any segment. Be it performance parameters or interior spaciousness or fuel economy, the Toyota Avalon is a real deal over the Chrysler 300.

2022 Toyota Avalon vs 2022 Dodge Charger

The 2022 Toyota Avalon takes the edge against the Charger in acceleration and power curve. Despite being quicker, the former comes out to be more economical in fuel mileage. The cabin roominess is also an asset on offer. Hence, the Avalon seems to be a better option.

Final Verdict

Though the 2022 Toyota Avalon is in its last year of production but it has got everything to be stand out in the crowd. The perfect blend of power, ambiance, and practicality all at once. Even the price tag is relatively within the competitive range only as that of other rivals. So, one should surely consider buying one.
