... the available info on the Impreza prior to her buying it and based on the written reviews I suggested that she get it. I have since been to the Subaru dealership and "test drove" the Forrester and Outback and these do not feel tinny as the Impreza did. NOTE: when I mentioned the totalaled vehicle the salesman asked "was your wife hurt?" I replied no and he said "that'sRead More

... nearly $1000 (at the dealer, cheaper at an independent shop). The car is less than 4 years old and has 48k miles on it. I had a 1984 Volvo 240 DL w/nearly 300k miles on it, it RARELY needed repairs, certainly not with the same frequency and at the same cost as this damn Subaru. I'm bummed, I wanted this car for life, now I can't wait to get rid of it. :(Read More

... value. After buying my car, I have had NOTHING but PROBLEMS including not moving out from park and leaving me stranded. My car has been in the dealership at least 4 times for the same exact problem and they have claimed that they have included a Subaru rep 2 of those times. Mind you the car was bought brand new and is 2 years old. When we finally spoke with customer service from Subaru, theyRead More

The Subaru impresa has always had a special place in our hearts for being one of the only offerings in the affordable compact sedan segment to come with a standard AWD drive train. This certain feature, which has been inherited from its rally-oriented cousins, which by the way, is the same heritage trait that made us unknowingly label Subarus as robust vehicles in our minds. For the most part, you wouldn’t be wrong about thinking so as the Impreza lineup of cars has some decent reliability quotient backing them up. Although the drop in complaint and recall numbers on this sedan's name has been gradual throughout the years, the 2015 model records just 2 recalls and 65 user complaints for this model year, making it the most trustable model so far and helping it take the game right to the best in the competition. Talking about competition, the $19,195 base price of the Impreza Sedan puts it directly in the company of segment leaders like the Toyota Corolla, the Honda Civic, and even the Nissan Sentra

Even, the "MaxTheCarGuy" notes that CVT slipping and overheating are some of the recurring issues while the fuel pump can also malfunction. To know more, click on the video below:

2015 Subaru Impreza Sedan User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical Complaints

  • Transmission Problems- Shuddering, lurching, and failing to upshift (electronic CVT steps) are the common problems seen with the 2015 Impreza Sedan’s transmission. Issues are not widespread here, but the reported average mileage of failure is around, 40,000-miles. Owners did address the difficulty in diagnosing certain complaints as it happens intermittently and could not be replicated by the dealers.
  • Service Brake Problems- Short circuit of the brake light switch on the 2015 Impreza Sedan is known to cause a few problems. Firstly, the brake lights remain illuminated or stop working completely. Secondly, the ABS loses functionality and in some cases, they also prevent the gear shifter to lock in a single position after the car has been turned off. The automaker is aware of this issue and has rolled out a recall (ID-19V149000) to replace the affected component.

 Electric System complaints

  • Stuck ignition key- Several 2015 Impreza Sedan owners have been complaining about the key getting stuck in the ignition switch. The dealers are aware of the issues and as reported is also a common problem under the scrutiny of the automaker for possible recalls. Owners who have come across this issue have been forced to disconnect the 12V battery just to get the keys out. Ignition sets diagnosed with this issue do need replacement.

Structural complaints

  • Steering issues- Steering noises, vibration, and assist failure are some issues to look out for on the Impreza Sedan. The causes have mostly been traced to a faulty steering gearbox or the assist motor, both of which would require replacement if found faulty. Owners have reported dealers denying warranty and having to pay the full amount from their pockets.

Safety Complaints

  • Forward collision system issues- Trims of the Impreza Sedan equipped with Subaru Eyesight system have been complained to disengage automatically at times. The issue was traced to be a faulty brake light switch that causes the system to disengage. Subaru did initiate a recall (15V366000) to replace the faulty part and reprogrammed the collision mitigation system.

The brake lights may not illuminate

Liquid contaminants may cause the brake light switch to malfunction, preventing the brake lights from illuminating and also preventing keyless ignition vehicles from starting and CVT/automatic transmissions from being able to be shifted out of “Park” mode.

The dealers will replace the brake light switch, free of charge. The recall began on April 15, 2019.

12th June 2015

15V366000

The collision mitigation braking system may not function

If the switch that activates the brake lights fail, cars equipped with the Eyesight Driver Assist System, the automatic pre-collision braking component of the driver assist system will not function, increasing the risk of a crash.

The dealers will reprogram the driver assist system, free of charge. The recall began on July 20, 2015.

Should you buy a used 2015 Subaru Impreza Sedan?

Although the Impreza Sedan is not one of the best sellers in its segment, Subaru has still managed to break the magic 100,000 sales number with this entry-level sedan this model year. Given that the specific generation on the discussion here has existed since 2007, Subaru had a lot of time in their hands to set all things that were wrong straight, and man did they. Registering just 2 recalls and complaints for the 2015 model year, the Impreza places itself right in line with the segment-best as far as reliability and built goes. Some of the aforementioned niggles do come up at times, but we are sure that it would be nothing that would break your bank.
