The Cayenne has been under the spotlight for the wrong reasons, especially due to the problems it came up with. Although it has 6 registered complaints and 1 recall to its name, the Cayenne is still known for having an issue now and then. To make matters worse, the average cost of repairing a Cayenne is around $20,000, which is abnormally high within its segment. Even, the "Al Satch" has pointed out that just we do that "under 30k miles, there can be jerky lower shift and over 30k, there can be slipping clutch". To know more, Click on the video below:
User Complains and Problems
Mechanical Problems
- Engine - One of the official complaints on the NHTSA described how the owner would notice an intermittent lack of acceleration when going to the left from a complete standstill. Although the owner has not faced a grim situation due to this, it still counts as a safety hazard as this issue would happen without prior notice. Another complaint stated how the owner’s Cayenne lost power and stalled on the highway. The problem could be related to a faulty fuel pump system, which when affected causes the vehicle to suddenly lose power and result in the engine dying completely.
- Coolant lines - A complaint on the NHTSA described heating issues, where the Cayenne’s engine would become so hot that it would result in producing a burnt smell and several warnings indicating that it is unsafe to drive the vehicle. This has been identified as a result of plastic coolant lines burning up, which over time, end up failing and causing the engine to overheat.
Safety Problems
- Forward Collision-Avoidance System - One complaint on the NHTSA involved the Forward Collision Warning System, wherein the vehicle would suddenly display a warning message, showing that the vehicle is unsafe to operate at the moment. This affects the cruise control system as it is disabled for the next hour. The problem has been rectified in future models but remains an issue in the 2018 Cayenne.

Should you buy the 2018 Porsche Cayenne?
The Cayenne is the odd one out of Porsche's lineup of vehicles when it comes to reliability. It ranks amongst the least reliable vehicles in its segment due to faulty fuel pumps and the use of plastic coolant pipes that degrade over time. However, given the 1 official recall of the 2018 model, that too for an optional package change, it would seem that the 2018 Porsche Cayenne can be dependable if properly maintained. Sure, the maintenance costs are on the higher end, but if done properly, the SUV can last over 200,000 miles and still be in good condition. The advice would be to check the 2018 Cayenne for any existing faults and recent services that it had received before taking the final call.
