Overview

The 2017 MINI Countryman makes for an excellent contender in the subcompact wagon class. With two trims on offer, the MINI Countryman has a base MSRP of $26,100, with prices going all the way up to MSRP $28,100, competing with the Fiat 500L, with no other direct competition whatsoever. The closest rivals for the Countryman include the Mercedes-BenzGLA 250, and the Buick Encore. Only a 1.5L turbocharged Inline-3 engine is offered, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. There is also a 6-speed automatic transmission offered as an option. Together, they produce 134 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. Accelerating from 0-60 in 9.3 seconds, the Countryman maintains a combined fuel economy of 28 MPG. MINI offers the Countryman in 9 stunning colors, with the island blue metallic being a particular favorite of ours.

Buying Advice

The top-level ALL4 trim with all-wheel drive makes more sense just for an additional $2000. In terms of features, both trims offer similar features with some additional packages and optional features to choose from out of which, we recommend the Convenience package and Premium package, the former include vehicle alarm, rear armrest, cargo divider, and a choice between a cargo area flip-out seating cushion or spare tire, while the latter adds power-adjustable front seats, tinted glass, 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and a hands-free power liftgate.
