The 2022 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 is a mid-size performance SUV that sits in the German luxury marque's lineup between the GLB and GLE SUVs. The standard GLC-Class is a handsome vehicle with excellent proportions, making it perfect for a daily driver in narrow city lanes. It gets transformed into a powerful, purposeful, and sharp-handling SUV after being worked on by the in-house AMG performance department. Underneath the hood hides a twin-turbocharged V8 engine that delivers a staggering 503 horsepower - ample enough to burn the tires when screeching away from a standstill. Nearly every single component receives exclusive attention from AMG, and the vehicle sports an AMG 9-speed transmission, an AMG limited-slip differential, AMG brakes, AMG sport suspension, and even an AMG-branded steering wheel.

2022 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 User Complaints and Problems

Engine and Mechanical Problems

  • Steering - Multiple owners reported experiencing jamming of the electric steering column adjustment functionality. The column would reportedly move to either height extremes, stop and get stuck. The instruction was to adjust the column adjustment transmission and perform a software update of the driver's seat control unit.
  • Suspension - Several owners reported thumping noises from the rear axle shock absorber when traveling over rough roads.

Exterior Problems

  • Liftgate - Concerns arose regarding a 'grinding' noise during the opening or closing of the automatic tailgate. The root cause was the damaged gearwheels of the liftgate control drive unit.

Interior Problems

  • Seat heating - Multiple complaints arose regarding inoperative or non-functional seat heating. The seat heating mats did not warm up, despite the illumination of the LEDs on the switch.

Electrical Problems

  • Wireless charging - Few owners complained that the wireless charging function did not operate as per specifications. The company issued an update for the mobile phone cradle control unit software.
  • Navigation - The central display occasionally showed that the map data did not correspond with the system and sometimes failed to update the same. The root cause was the incorrect activation of the navigation database.
  • Garage door opener - Some complained that the range of the integrated garage door opener was too short.
