The demand for sporty luxury sedans might be falling but there are a lot of good players in the segment even now. The Germans have been particularly excellent in blending luxury and performance but the Japanese have been right at their heels and they have their set of swanky wheels too. While most other brands seem to focus on a completely different kind of body style, Infiniti seems to have put in the work to perfect the sedan formula. The 2022 Infiniti Q50 is a car that has been around for a while but carries forward with a few updates.

Its strengths include an excellent design that carries with it a sense of muscularity and a sporty stance, a good twin-turbo V-6 engine to get it through the paces, and excellent value for money. Prices start at $43,125 without options and can go up slightly as you shuffle between the trim levels and optional extras. Its category also sees a great amount of competition with cars like the Mercedes AMG C 43, the BMW M340i, and the Audi S4. Let us find out more about Infiniti Q50 reliability in this article.

2022 Infiniti Q50 User Complaints and Problems

So far, reliability has been a question that has loomed large over luxury products. No one will dare question whether Infiniti makes good cars but several products of theirs have not been easy to maintain. Since they are the luxury brand of Nissan, they ought to bring a good level of dependability to the table. However, this has not always been the case.

Therefore, it is advised that if you’re investing in a car of this caliber, it should be reliable and trustworthy in terms of maintenance. And rather than basing assumptions about reliability based on the reputation of a brand, we believe in conducting comprehensive studies to understand how each particular car in each particular model year serves the role of a dependable vehicle.

Since one cannot measure reliability using any instrument, the best way is to listen to people who have bought the car and used it for years to tell you about it. For this purpose, the method we rely on is by going through the complaints listed on the NHTSA website. Being a governmental organization, their results are trustworthy and although private organizations are doing the same work, we would rank the NHTSA higher in terms of credibility.

The NHTSA lists all the major complaints that have been reported by the consumers of that particular car. But because cars vary greatly between generations, one cannot apply results from a different one. Luckily, the Q50 has been around for a while and we have enough data on it. Let us take a look at Infiniti Q50 complaints below.

Safety problems:

  1. One owner of an Infiniti Q50 3.0 T Luxe has stated that the forward emergency braking has been activating without the need for it. The system cannot be disabled as it activates itself upon ignition restart. It detects obstacles that are not there and aggressively brakes the car. Since the system is inaccurate, it can be the cause of accidents rather than mitigating them.

The 2022 Infiniti Q50 has not reported any complaints yet. The same applies to the 2021 Infiniti Q50 as well and this is reassuring considering the car has sold a couple of units in these two years. The complaints listed above have been from the 2020 model and it is a good sign that the number is very low. Let us take a look at the recalls history of this car to have a more accurate picture.

2022 Infiniti Q50 Recalls

As we have mentioned at the start of the article, sporty luxury sedans are not exactly selling like hotcakes these days, and hence the number of complaints is proportional to the units sold. So the fact that it has very few complaints does not conclusively say anything about its reputation of being complaint free. The one complaint that has been stated does concern a safety problem.

Problems with automatic emergency braking and other driver assistance systems have been common across many modern cars. Although they are invented to prevent accidents, these may sometimes be the cause of accidents themselves. We do hope that the manufacturer does software tweaks to figure out these issues and rectify them in the future.

The 2022 model has not been part of any recalls yet but that is because it is too soon for that to happen. The 2021 model has had three recalls, while the 2020 model has recorded none. Despite there being not many complaints, it is good that the manufacturer has tried to fix the ones that existed. We discuss them in detail below.

Infiniti has issued a large number of recalls and we can say that it has been proactive in fixing the different issues that have happened on this car. Other than this, we do hope that the active safety systems which have been complained about were rectified by the brand on a case-by-case basis. Only then, we can call the car a reliable one.

Which model year of the Infiniti Q50 should you avoid?

The current generation of the Infiniti Q50 has been on sale for a long while and this means it has had a lot of time to sort out its problems. It debuted in the model year 2014 and during this time, it had a large number of user complaints. However, we should understand that these kinds of issues happen to every single car out there and there is no perfectly reliable model ever.

The manufacturer has responded quite well in these situations and found solutions for the problems owners have faced. The recent models have been so reliable that there have not been any complaints in the last two years. Despite this, if we have to tell you a model to avoid, it would be the debut model as the 2014 Infiniti Q50 reliability was not good.

Should you buy the 2022 Infiniti Q50?

The Infiniti Q50 is a car that has a lot of strengths but is now facing a lack of interest from the public due to being slightly out-dated. But the flipside to this is that the car is now pretty reliable and should not give you much trouble. At its price point, it is a great deal because of its entertaining nature and great design. But even though it is good value for money, we feel you are better off going with one of its rivals.
