... for daughter. FIRST ONE- Had to pull transmission at 162 miles. Gave me a new one and many small items. Scratch in dash. Dimples on back side of steering wheel, right where you grab the wheel to turn it ( looks like poor molding/manufacturing). Have never had the day(s)where I was like...love the car due to too many items. Wish had cash back.Read More

The Honda Civic focuses on an efficient and practical city commute and it makes for a reliable and trustworthy companion for commuting. However, the sedan shows compromises on comfort. User complaints report uncomfortable seats affecting the driving and riding experience. Common issues with the sedan range from paint chipping to steering defects. The 2013 Honda Civic record registers 252 complaints with no recalls. Additionally, the car reports 2 ongoing investigations.

Even so, the 2013 Civic carries a 5-star safety rating. Furthermore, Honda aftersales guarantee swift aftersales response and support to the customers. The Civic competes with the likes of the Hyundai Elantra, the Mazda-3, and the Toyota Corolla in the sedan class. Furthermore, the Honda Civic ranks in the 6th spot on the CarHp list of top-10 sedans of 2013. The "Orlando Drivers" Youtube channel showcases all the issues that one might feel in the Civic. Watch the video below and read ahead to find out if it's still worth it.

User Complaints and Problems

The Honda Civic 2013 has done well in this regard as there have been about 252 user complaints registered. While the number might seem large at first but considering the huge sales volume that Honda generates every year, this amounts to a negligible percentage. The details of the major complaints registered by the users have been mentioned below.

Mechanical Problems

  • Brakes - Rusting of the brake pads, rotors and calipers is a common issue seen with the car. These issues result in a squealing sound while braking. Defective brake assembly can lead to reduced braking performance. This compromises user safety and increases the chances of a crash.
  • Powertrain - The sedan comes across a few powertrain issues under driving conditions. These issues range from hesitant gear shifts to engine stalling. Fixing power train issues are both expensive as well as time-consuming. These issues result in a sudden loss of speed and drive power, increasing the chances of a crash.
  • Steering - Power steering failures with the Honda Civic. Users also report a few cases of power steering lockup under driving conditions. Steering lockup or failure compromises vehicle control under driving conditions. This increases the chances of a crash.
  • Engine - Engine stalling and engine oil leakage are common issues with the car. Users report a sharp loss of speed and drive power under driving conditions. Sudden loss of drive power increases the chances of a crash.
  • Accelerator pedal - Users report issues with the accelerator pedal. In a few instances, depressing the accelerator pedal does not speed up the vehicle. Users also report cases of rogue acceleration. The car accelerates without any user input. These issues increase the chances of a crash.

Electrical Problems

  • Infotainment - The infotainment console of the car is prone to glitches and blacking out. This can distract the driver while driving.

Safety Problems

  • Airbags - Users report intermittent flashing of the “check airbag” warnings on the dashboard. This can distract the driver.

Structural Problems

  • Body frame - Chipping or peeling of body paintwork is a common complaint with Civic users. This results in exposing the chassis and body frame to the environment. Environmental exposure increases the risk of rusting. This can reduce the structural integrity of the car.
  • Windshield - Few cases report shattering of the windshield without any foreign damage. Honda claims environmental temperature variations to be the root cause of the issue. Few users also report fogging of the windshields while driving. This compromises user visibility and increases the chances of a crash.
  • Sunroof/Moonroof - The sedan’s sunroof/moonroof is prone to exploding and leakage. Users report cases of water seepage from the sunroof. Few complaints also report instances of the sunroof exploding with a loud bang. These issues may distract the driver or result in injuries.
  • Seats - A majority of user complaints report uncomfortable seating in the cabin. The seat’s backrest and headrest positioning compromise user comfort. Few users also complain of experiencing electric shocks when seated.

Recalls

The 2013 Honda Civic records a clean history of recalls with no official recall cases registered for 2013. This shows the impeccable quality control techniques followed by Honda. While the Civic 2013 was redesigned just last year which had a handful of recalls, Honda has managed to keep a slate this year.
