The 2022 GMC Yukon is a full-size all-American SUV with exterior proportions that can dwarf most other road cars. The SUV is a sight to behold, with a massive front grille, stylish headlamps, bold wheels, and the prominent GMC lettering on the front, all of them lending incredible street presence. The voluminous cabin has all the latest gadgets and features like 13 camera views, a 10.2-inch infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless charging. It is a brilliantly capable vehicle as well, with flat-folding third-row seats and a towing capacity of up to 8400 pounds. There are three engine choices - a 3.0L turbo diesel with 277 horsepower, a 5.3L V8 that outputs 355 horsepower, and a 6.2L V8 that delivers 420 horsepower.

The company offers this SUV in four variants, and the adventurous ones can opt for the AT4, whereas the prospective owners who prefer sheer luxury should go for the Denali trim.

2022 GMC Yukon User Complaints and Problems

Engine and Mechanical Problems

  • Wheel noise - Some owners reported hearing a clicking noise from the front wheels when turning the vehicle at slow speeds. The issue was noticeable at full-lock steering maneuvers, and it was due to contact between the wheel mounting face and brake rotor surface.
  • Clutch noise - Few owners complained of a squeaking noise from the rear of the vehicle, notably in SUVs equipped with the limited-slip differential. The root cause was inadequate lubrication and slip/stick of the clutch plates.
  • Transmission - Some owners mentioned experiencing harsh shifting, transmission judders, surging, and transmission fluid overheating. Further investigation showed that it was because of a twisted cooler line.

Exterior Problems

  • Running board - Some raised issues regarding an inoperative articulated running board. The platform failed to extend outwards or retract in conjunction with the door. Software anomalies were the reason for the same.

Electrical Problems

  • Radio - Several owners stated that the radio occasionally malfunctioned, with audio distortions, sudden volume variations, and a failure in saving presets. The issue was due to software anomalies following an update.

Miscellaneous Problems

  • Rear washer - Few owners complained regarding an inoperative rear washer system, disconnection of the boot to the water hose, and hose leakage.

Running lights may not deactivate/FMVSS 108

In certain vehicles, the daytime running lamps (DRLs) remained illuminated when the headlamps were on. The issue was due to a software error in the Body Control Module (BCM), and a set of pre-conditions could cause failure in deactivating the DRLs when turning on the headlamps. As a result, the excessive glare could obstruct the view of an oncoming vehicle, increasing the likelihood of an accident.

The body control module software will receive an update from the dealerships, or vehicles will get an over-the-air (OTA) update.

Improper rivets on seat belt buckle assembly

Improper riveting of the third-row seatbelt buckle assembly was the reason for this recall. In certain vehicles, production line workers missed the rivet-forming operation that secures the buckle to the mounting bracket. As a result, the seatbelt assembly may not restrain the occupants in the event of an accident, increasing the likelihood of injuries.

Dealers will examine the rivet head formation in the third-row seatbelt assemblies and offer free replacements for all necessary cases.
