Ford Fusion is Ford’s solution to an economic and practical sedan for the city commute. The compact body design of the Fusion finds its natural habitat in the bylanes of the city. However, the compact sedan does a good job when it comes to touring. The Ford Fusion highlights high standards of reliability, versatility, and practicality. The record of 70 user complaints and a single recall for the 2018 model year affirms the same. Furthermore, the 2018 Ford Fusion carries a 5-star overall safety rating. However, it comes across a few issues ranging from brake defects to structural flaws. Even so, the compact sedan invokes confidence in potential buyers. The Ford Fusion shares its marketplace with the likes of the Toyota Camry, the Kia Optima, and the Hyundai Sonata. The 2018 Ford Fusion holds 3rd place on the CarHp list of top-10 compact sedans of 2018. Scroll for a detailed look at the car.

User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical Problems

  • Brakes - Braking issues with the car include rapid wear of the brake pads, failure of abs pumps, and reduced braking performance. Few users also report the car lunging forward while applying the brakes. These braking issues increase the chances of a crash.
  • Powertrain - Problems with the powertrain are common with Ford Fusion users. Users report cases of the car failing to shift in and out of the ‘park mode’. Users also report the car stalling under driving conditions. Complaints report that the car drives in limp mode post losing drive power. A sudden loss of speed and drive power increases the chances of rear-ended collisions. Fixing these powertrain issues is a time-consuming and costly affair.
  • Steering - Users report the steering wheel feeling loose under driving conditions. This can increase the chances of a crash.
  • Engine - Engine issues are common with the sedan. Users report cases of gasket failure and misfiring under driving conditions. Few cases report instances of engine stalling. The fic to these issues requires complete replacement of the vehicle engine.

Electrical Problems

  • Trunk - The trunk of the sedan is prone to unlatch and open under driving conditions. This can hamper the rear vision of the driver and increase the chances of a crash.

Safety Problems

  • Airbags - Airbag malfunctions are common with the Ford Fusion. User report cases of airbag deployment failure in the event of a crash. This compromises the safety of the vehicle and increases the chances of injury.
  • Backup Camera - User complaints report instances of the backup camera failures. This leads to a loss of rearview backup camera display graphics. A lack of a rear-view image increases the chances of a crash.

Structural Problems

  • Bodyframe - Users report instances of unlatching and opening of the sedan doors under driving conditions. This increases the chances of a crash and the risk of injury to the occupants.
  • Sunroof/moonroof - Few users report cases of water leakage from the sunroof/moonroof. Water seepage into the car can result in a short circuit and increase the chances of a fire. This may increase the risk of injury to the occupants.
  • Wheels - Users report a few cases of expansion of the lugnuts. This leads to jamming of the lugnuts. The solution may require replacing the lug nuts or replacing the tires.
