We recommend you to go for the mid-spec SE trim as it comes with the more powerful 2.0 L turbocharged engine and also has an option for all-wheel-drive. Further, the features list is also exhaustive like an upgraded 6-speaker audio system, 8-way powered driver seat, and 17-inch alloy wheels, and all of this just for $24,705 for the front-wheel-drive variant makes it an attractive proposition in the lineup.
It is a car that promises a lot, including good power, great driving characteristics, and a lot of technology. Starting at an MSRP of $23,135, it remains an excellent value for money proposition as well. It competes against other competitive mid-size sedans like the Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, and the Hyundai Sonata. The 2016 Ford Fusion is available with just three trim levels among which everything is divided. The range starts from S, which only comes as front-wheel-drive trim and costs just over $23,000. If you need some more luxury, then the SE trim is available for $24,705 for the FWD and $28,115 for the AWD. So there are a couple of engine options that the Ford Fusion comes with. One is the base 2.5L naturally aspirated inline-4 engine which produces quite mediocre 175 hp, which frankly isn’t any exciting at all. The engine is paired to a 6-speed automatic unit and just manages to do the job of ferrying you around the city. There is also a 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 which should be quite good for the ones who are concerned about the fuel economy.
Up next is a 2.0L turbocharged EcoBoost engine, and that is what we recommend you to get for your Fusion. It makes 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque and doesn’t let us miss the V6. It certainly is a very powerful motor and can do overtaking maneuvers quite quickly even at triple-digit highway speeds. This motor coupled with the very efficient 6-speed automatic gearbox makes the perfect pair for long-distance touring.

With the base 2.5L engine, the Fusion is the least powerful among the competition, whereas the Sonata takes the crown for the most powerful and quickest car here. The Fusion, on the other hand, is pretty much the slowest car in the bunch, and that actually makes us quite sad. However, it makes up for it with good driving dynamics. As we mentioned before, Ford has offered an EcoBoost engine which is more than adequate to quench your thirst for power and performance in the segment.
Being less on power doesn’t necessarily mean that the car will be more fuel-efficient as the Fusion is the complete opposite of that. It is neither powerful nor fuel-efficient. The base 2.5L inline-4 generates fuel economy figures of 22 MPG in the city, 34 MPG on the highway, 26 MPG combined. The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 with direct injection is standard on the Titanium. It is the performance option of the lineup, but hardly thirsty. Teamed to a 6-speed automatic and front or all-wheel drive, it earns 22/33/26 MPG with front-wheel-drive and 22/31/25 MPG with all-wheel drive.

The best option for people conscious of fuel efficiency is the 1.5L motor which is rated at 24/36/28 MPG or 25/37/29 MPG when equipped with an engine stop-start feature. Low fuel efficiency is not the only concern as the smaller fuel tank affects it even further, and thus the driving range of the 2016 Ford Fusion is the least among the competition. The Nissan is the one which is most fuel-efficient and also has quite a big fuel tank, thus giving the car over 550 miles of driving range.
There is frankly not a lot to talk about the interior of the 2016 Ford Fusion. It is quite a clean and functional layout where everything is placed at an easy reach to the driver. The dashboard is quite simple and cohesive with not a lot of distracting elements. Rather, its simplicity is what makes it stand out the most. There is a slight bit of what seems to be faux wooden trim that also elevates the whole cabin feel. In the base trims, the upholstery is made of cloth, while the top-spec Titanium trim gets a leatherette interior which cranks up the luxury quotient.
The Fusion is quite a big sedan, and that gives it an advantage in terms of interior space. The front seats are massive and can hold a full-sized adult quite comfortably. We particularly liked the ones with cloth seats rather than the leather seats as they were more comfortable to sit on. Higher trim levels also get powered and multi-level heated front seats which makes them even more comfortable for a place to be in. The rear seats are also quite spacious, and though they are set a bit low, they can easily accommodate three adults, at least for smaller journeys.

When talking a bit more about the numbers, it is the Sonata which has the most spacious front row seats, while for the rear row space, it is the Ford which came out to be the most spacious just by a nudge. The Fusion also has a decently sized boot which makes it even more practical in terms of space management. Some of the key interior features are:
Flaunting its space in the center of the dash is an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen that comes with the MyFord system, which is not very good to use, to be honest. The better and more premium Sync 3 system isn’t yet available with the Fusion, and that is a real bummer for us. However, there is a good thing, and that is that Ford has heard our complaints about the touch-sensitive buttons and now we have physical buttons in place of them. In the base car, there is a very basic 4-speaker sound system while you get two additional speakers in the SE trim. The best one though is in the Titanium where you get a total of 12 speakers. Not a lot has been changed since this generation car was launched 3 years back in 2013. It pretty much looks like the same car, and we sincerely feel that Ford should throw in some updates to make the car look fresh. Nonetheless, the 2016 Ford Fusion is still a pretty smartly designed car and has a slight hint of the connection between Aston Martin and Ford in its design in terms of that front grille and a lot more styling cues. The gently arched roofline looks a bit like that of the Audi A7 from the rear angles, and its LED taillights help punctuate that. It is a pretty smart-looking car, to say the least, and while this design might look a bit old to some, it is still pretty much the best-looking sedan in the segment.

When tested by IIHS, the car managed to receive a “Good” rating in all the crash tests except the highly notorious Small Front Overlap Driver-side Test in which the car received an “Acceptable” rating. The Ford Fusion has always been a bestseller in the American market, and that is for a very good reason. It is a very spacious and practical car, comes with a lot of engine options to choose from, and even comes with a hybrid powertrain. The interiors are not gimmicky and feel properly luxurious in upper trims, and all the while, the 2016 Ford Fusion is still pretty affordable. In the end, the sedan makes for a good option in the segment.

This ford fusion is the best car I have ever owned. I decided to buy this car for myself for my 19th birthday, and it only had a little over 20,000 miles on it. It just hit 60,000 miles a few weeks ago. The MPG is amazing especially when you are on a highway. I can make a 6 hour round trip on one full tank of gas. On a scale of 100 I would rank my car at a 98 % out of 100. It's roomy, great sound system, equiped with an alarm system. I've had very few issues with my car. Basically just regular maintenance. I've replaced the battery and tires but overall I would recommend this car to anyone
