Overview

Designed and manufactured by FCA, generally known as Chrysler, the 300 is their offering in the full-size luxury sedan segment. A pretty compelling car in its segment, the concept version of the 300 debuted in 2003 beginning its production next year for the 2005 model year. It was during the 2011 model year update when the Chrysler 300 made its transition to its 2nd generation of production, and the 2015 model is also a part of it as well, albeit with some changes and updates over the years. In fact, the 2015 model is a pretty major upgrade from its previous model year.

Buying Advice

For most people, the base 300 Limited might just be the smarter choice, unless you want to opt for the SafetyTec 2 package that comes with all those advanced driving aids. Other than that, the base 300 Limited trim offers much more than you would ever need, especially for its price point.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Chrysler offers four different choices for 2015 300, with starting prices ranging from $31,695 to $44,895 depending on the trim level and spec. The Chrysler 300 offers a pretty unique blend of refinement and quality, along with some impressive competence with regard to performance as well. Although a pretty competent car in its segment, it still faces steep competition from the likes of Dodge Charger, Buick LaCrosse, Hyundai Genesis, and other similar sedans in the market.

Features
9.0/10

So the two SRT trims have been discontinued for the 2015 Chrysler 300. With that being said, 2015 300 is available in four different trim levels to choose from, viz. 300 Limited, 300S, 300C, and top-spec 300C Platinum. In terms of optional packages, there are two on offer. The first one is the SafetyTec 1 package, which is available for all the trims and includes features like front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic detection. Then comes the SafetyTec 2 package available for all but the 300 Limited trim. It adds automatic windshield wipers, a lane-departure warning system, lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam control, adaptive cruise control, and a forward collision warning and mitigation system. Other standalone options include:

  • Xenon headlights
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system

Fuel Economy
8.3/10

The 3.6L naturally aspirated V6 engine under the hood of the Chrysler 300 has an EPA estimated mileage of 19, 31, and 23 MPG respectively in city, highway, and combined for the rear-wheel-drive variant. The all-wheel-drive variant provides 18, 27, and 21 MPG in the same order. These are pretty impressive fuel economy figures for a car of its size and weight, especially the mileage figures of the RWD variants, which makes the 300 one of the most fuel-efficient cars in its segment.

The V6 powered Dodge Charger sharing the same powertrain as the Chrysler 300 provides the same class-leading mileage figures. But the Chrysler having a larger fuel tank enables it to have a better overall range, which might come in handy during long-distance driving.

Interior
8.3/10

The interior of the Chrysler 300 does not feel as plush as some of its competitors. With an underwhelming build quality, it does not feel as upscale as some of its rivals. That being said, the quality of materials used is pretty satisfactory, to say the least. The cabin is full of soft-touch materials which makes the car feel more luxurious than it is.

The base trim starts off with leather upholstery, which carries on to the upper trim levels as well. The top-spec 300C Platinum enhances the experience with extended leather upholstery. The Chrysler 300 can seat five passengers and has a total head-, shoulder and legroom of 38.6 / 59.5 / 41.8 and 37.9 / 57.7 / 40.1 inches at the front and rear, respectively. It has a total cargo capacity of 16.3 cubic feet, which is pretty respectable for its segment.

In terms of interior dimensions, the Chrysler 300 is pretty similar to most of its competitors. That being said, the Hyundai Genesis is a bit interesting in this regard. While providing class-leading front legroom of 45.7 inches, it compromises rear seat legroom at only 35.0 inches. Major interior features include:

  • Power adjustable front seats with power adjustable lumbar support
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Driver seat memory functions
  • Heated rear seat
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Leather upholstery
  • Power rear sunshade

How intuitive is the 2015 Chrysler 300’s infotainment unit?

The Chrysler 300 features their Uconnect infotainment system with an 8.4” touchscreen display in the center console which includes features like voice commands, and emergency roadside assistance. The base trim starts off with features like Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, WiFi hotspot access, satellite radio, along with a six-speaker sound system with AUX and USB connectivity. The 300S upgraded the music system to a more premium 10-speaker sound system from Beats Audio.

Stepping up to the 300C trims equips the infotainment system with an in-built navigation system, HD radio, and a 6-speaker audio system from Alpine. A 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system is also available as a standalone option for all the trim levels. The UI of the infotainment system is pretty intuitive to use, thanks to its logical menu structure. On top of that, ergonomically placed large knobs and buttons make it easy to control the different functionalities of the car. Key infotainment features in the 2015 Chrysler 300 include:

  • Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity
  • WiFi hotspot access
  • Satellite radio
  • 6-speaker sound system with AUX and USB connectivity
  • 10-speaker sound system from Beats Audio (300S)
  • In-built navigation system (300C and above)
  • HD radio (300C and above)
  • 6-speaker audio system from Alpine (300C and above)
  • 19-speaker Harman Kardon (optional)

Exterior
8.3/10

As mentioned earlier, the 2015 Chrysler 300 gets a fresh new design. It is not a major facelift, but it does make the car look more modern and relevant to the market. It still retains the unique silhouette and the strong road presence but in a more modern package. It might not be a particularly elegant design, but the strong road presence makes it stand out among the rest in the competition.

At 198.6 inches, it is one of the longer cars in the segment, and it also has a class-leading wheelbase of 120.2 inches. Starting off at 4029 lbs, it is also among the heavier cars in the competition. At 4.7”, its ground clearance is a bit low compared to the rest of the cars in its segment.

The Chrysler 300 is one of the longer and wider cars in the competition. Despite the fact that it has a significantly longer wheelbase, its front and rear legroom are not much different from the Buick LaCrosse, which has a significantly shorter wheelbase. Few major exterior features include:

  • Unique black-out styling elements for the 300S trim
  • Extended use of chrome for the 300C Platinum trim
  • Heated mirrors
  • Driver side auto-dimming mirror
  • Xenon headlights (optional)
  • Panoramic sunroof (optional)

Safety
8.6/10

According to Chrysler themselves, there are more than 80 available safety and security features for the 2015 Chrysler 300. New for the 2015 model includes Full-speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus, Adaptive Cruise Control-Plus with Full Stop, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, and 9-1-1 call/Assist Call. Standard safety features include ABS, airbags, active front head restraints, traction control, and stability control. But to prevent crashes from happening in the first place, it includes features like:

  • Blind-spot warning system
  • Rear cross-traffic system
  • Automatic braking for frontal collision mitigation

The Uconnect Access system also includes features like automatic crash notification, on-demand roadside assistance, remote door unlocking, and stolen vehicle assistance.

Final Verdict

For someone looking for an American full-size luxury sedan, the Chrysler 300 might be a pretty good choice. It has a solid road presence, and the long list of standard tech features, creature comforts, and driving aids makes it a compelling choice in its segment. But the downside is its subpar build quality and the fact that the interior does not feel as upscale as some of its competitors. Other than that, there is nothing much to complain about the car. The standard engine is pretty competent, and the fact that it is one of the most fuel-efficient engines in its segment makes the 2015 Chrysler 300 a pretty compelling choice for the more eco-conscious buyers.
