Known for manufacturing a wide range of vehicles, BMW has made its name among the top-shot automotive brands with time. The global acceptance of the brand is a significant reason behind the popularity of its sporty luxury coupes like the BMW M4 with a starting market price tag of $71,950 which competes against top guns such as the Mercedes Benz AMG C 63 coupe and the Lexus RC F in the luxury 2-dr coupe segment. The glorious get-up, presence, and it’s overall acceptance of the M4 was pretty difficult for Mercedes and Lexus to maintain the pace in a cut-throat competitive automobile market.

That’s why a significant number of car reviewers and automotive experts believed that finding a reliable competitor for a 2 dr coupe like the M4 would have been impossible if the car’s reliability issues were not compromised due to its problematic battery system,

malfunctioning air conditioners, unnecessary burning of oil leading to excessive fluid leakage, etc. Apart from that, the users also noted the malfunctioning AC system, low fuel efficiency, and compromising performance which brought the market goodwill of the brand under threat.

Though there are no issues registered about the BMW M4 on the NHTSA website. However, we have noted down the common problems and issues encountered by the majority of M4 owners.

Electrical Problems

  • Issues with the Air Conditioner

Major issues has been noted with the car’s A/C system preventing the inside air to reach the ideal temperature. Generally, the issue may be caused when the electrical connection between the ECU and the climate control system is disrupted causing the Air Cooler to malfunction. These issues are needed to be addressed and resolved soon to prevent the occupants from suffocating. If needed the faulty Air Cooler system should be replaced with newer ones if possible.

  • Battery issues

Battery issues are a common concern in most of the BMW M4 coupes. Battery problems might lead to faulty powertrain problems while auto-changing the gear actuator shift, as the electrical control unit, may not be able to read the signal to change the gear transmission. This leads leading to a failure in the auto gear shift even when the driver expects to change the gear shift from low to high gear or vice versa. The dealers should inspect the reason behind the malfunction and repair them soon.

Engine and Mechanical Problems

  • Burning oil smell with fluid leakage noted

Majority of the M4 owners noted oil leakage in the car engine causing high fuel consumption. Sometimes, excessive fuel consumption in the car engine might lead to a burnt fuel smell. The worst part is there can be oily fluids noted beneath the vehicle, Such instances are a suitable cause for fuel ignition. Henceforth they must be addressed and should be repaired as soon as possible.
