Overview

Belonging to the subcompact hatchback segment, the 2019 BMW i3 carries all the qualities of a true electric vehicle. With a starting price of MSRP $44,450, the BMW i3 offers 2 trims. This puts it in direct competition with cars like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 Electric, the Chevrolet Bolt EV, and the Nissan Leaf EV. There aren#39;t any powertrain options to explore here. The i3 is equipped with a single motor and a 42-kWh battery with a rated power output of 170 horsepower. In a straight line, the i3 clocks a 0-60 of 7.2 seconds and offers a range of 153 miles. While the powertrain leaves you devoid of choices, choice is instead offered through the six beautiful colors available for the car.

Buying Advice

The i3 is BMW’s first take on the electric hatchback which is good enough to annihilate the counterparts in its class. On the trims front, the base trim is good but we recommend the top tier S trim of the i3 for an extra $3,000 considering the features it offers. Most importantly, the electric motor underneath gets a tweak to crank out an additional 11 horsepower. All in all, the i3s is indeed an absolute bargain here.
