Overview

Lots of cars have tried to blend luxury and performance in the same package. While many failed in the quest, some managed to do a commendable job. Alpina B6 Gran Coupe is one of the few cars that gave us a glance at how luxury and performance can complement each other. The B6 is one of two limited-production models under BMW's Alpina division, the other being B7. This coupe is offered with several packages along with various stand-alone options that enhance the interior as well as the safety of the car.

Buying Advice

The 2020 BMW Alpina B6 Gran Coupe is available in a single trim, therefore, you only have the option to add extra packages that come at extra cost. Each package offers a unique feature. The Driver Assistance Package that adds more safety while the Executive package adds more comfort to the car with the help of ventilated front seats and heated steering wheel.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Priced at $124,400, the Alpina B6 Gran Coupe is powered by a robust 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 unit that cranks out 591 horses. This powertrain is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that distributes this power to all four wheels.

Staring at a BMW Alpina B6, you'll be reminded of the BMW M6. Since the production of this car is limited, there are other contenders like Mercedes AMG S63 and Jaguar XJ that you can get hands-on easily. However, owning a limited edition car is special in its own right. Let's see how the Alpina fares against its "rivals". Shall we?

Fuel Economy
6.8/10

Fuel economy will not be on the top of your priority list if you are driving a BMW, more so if its the Alpina B6. However, the massive V8 returns a respectable figure of 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.

Interior
7.6/10

“The front seats are relatively low-set for a sporty feel with a good amount of space; the rear seats will accommodate adults but are more confining than traditional sedans. A low roofline creates an alluring silhouette, but it eats into headroom and head clearance with the rear passenger doors.” - edmunds

Seating and Comfort

The BMW Alpina B6 comes with upscale interior design and comfort. The interior is wrapped with high-quality leather upholstery surrounded by an array of exotic materials.

The heated front seats are offered with 16-way adjustability options plus 4-way adjustable lumbar support. The Alpina B6 holds enough leg room for front and rear passengers with a passenger capacity of five.

Dimension and Weight

The silhouette of the Alpina B6 bears strong resemblances with the M6. The sloping coupe-like roofline is one of the distinctive design features of this car.

The multi-spoke allow wheel is also exclusive to the Alpina series. Unlike the Alpina's of the past, this B6 is more subtle and can blend in easily with the mass.

BMW Alpina B6 VS Audi RS7 Performance

The Audi RS7 is a genuine racing DNA. It has received a massive makeover from its last generation. The exterior design has surely hurt the BMW fanboys. On the inside, the RS7 comes with the latest features like Audi’s Virtual Cockpit. The performance figures are quite better than B6.

BMW Alpina B6 VS Jaguar XJ

With better performance, design, and features, the BMW Alpina is a good contender to the Jaguar XJ. The Jaguar XJ looks more or less outdated now. Though it shares an engine with the F-type, it could not better the performance figures.

BMW Alpina B6 VS Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG

The Mercedes S63 AMG is a complete luxury car with a heck of a performance. The new generation is fun to drive altogether. In terms of interior refinement or design, the S63 beats the Alpina B6 by a big margin. The S63 is more powerful than the BMW B6, making the former a better choice.

Final Verdict

The BMW Alpina B6 Gran Coupe is a great car to have in your garage. With the latest enhancements on the exterior and interior front, the carmaker is pretty sure about selling off in one go. The usage of fine ceramic and wood ensures a complete sophisticated appeal to the car. The extra packages make the car complete. If you are looking for a performance luxury car that meets your expectations, the Mercedes AMG S63 is worth considering.
