Is noisy, uncomfortable; not good for long rides because you will end up in the ER with a very bad headache; you need noise blockers.

The Acura ILX is one of a kind in the luxury small car segment. It is one of the few cars in the segment that is considered to be affordable, generally in a usually hefty price ranged section of the market. The predictable reliability rating of the car is a bit uncertain but as per official complaints and recalls, the 2018 ILX looks solid. With just 2 recalls and 6 complaints made about the car, we can say the car is relatively trouble-free. All the complaints made are against the fuel gauge, which Acura is already aware of and is currently midst of nationwide recalls. Its competition includes the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLA-class, the Jaguar XE, and the Buick Cascada.

2018 Acura ILX User Complaints and Problems for the

Mechanical Problems

  • Fuel gauge giving a wrong reading -.Multiple users have stated that the fuel gauge provided false information on the amount of fuel present, most commonly it was indicating the fuel tank to have fuel when it was not the case. As a result, many users were left stranded mid-operation, when there was absolutely no fuel remaining. Acura has been made aware of this situation and has already made recalls, you can refer to NHTSA id: 19V052000 for more information.
  • Engine stalling-  A standalone issue has been mentioned for a user that the engine tends to stall out. The vehicle lost its power and while the sedan resumed normal operation, the problem recurred, repeatedly.

Remedy

1

6th June 2019

19V424000

Half shaft might disengage and possibly cause rollway of vehicle.

Excessive greases may prevent the set-ring from the half shaft from fully engaging, allowing the driveshaft to separate. This can be especially dangerous for the car, as it can essentially just rollway while in park mode, or so.

The dealership will inspect and if necessary change the half shaft and driveshaft, free of charge.

24th January 2019

19V052000

Inaccuracy of the fuel gauge readings.

The vehicle might have a deformed fuel tank, that will in turn raise the height of the fuel pump, giving a false reading in the fuel gauge.

Dealership will replace the fuel tank, free of charge.

Should you buy the 2019 Acura ILX

The 2018 Acura ILX looks like a solid choice, mainly because of the price tag and ownership cost being so low compared to its competition. Though reliability-wise, all the competitors are fair the same, the price difference gives the 2018 ILX a bit more of an edge. But the Mercedez Benz CLA-class, the Buick Cascada, and the Jaguar XE have been said to have better handling and performance. But all three have their fair share of complaints and recalls. So, in the end, it all comes down to any kind of personal preference and availability. As always, inspect your car before purchase. In the case of the 2018 ILX, check to see if the fuel gauge is giving an accurate reading and if so, you're all good to go.
