Overview

The 2018 Lexus IS 300 is a compact sedan offered with a standalone trim, starting off at a base MSRP of $38,210. For that price, it mainly competes with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the Jaguar XE, and the Volvo S60. Meanwhile, the IS 300 offers 2 powertrains. The base engine is a 2.0L turbocharged Inline-4 capable of making 241 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. If more power is required, there is also a 260 horsepower-making 3.5L V6 engine with the all-wheel-drive model. The former is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission whereas the latter is engaged with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The IS 300 reaches 60 MPH from zero in 6.9 seconds on its base engine, which gets pumped up to 6.1 seconds with the 3.5L V6. Depending on the powertrain, the IS 300 can manage a combined fuel economy between 22 and 26 MPG. While we're on the topic of choices, the 8 striking colors the IS 300 comes in really pull you towards itself.

Buying Advice

If you want to balance the fuel economy with power then the base engine with rear-wheel drive is the best pick. It is loaded with plenty of features and it is quick enough. However, if an extra power punch, slightly faster acceleration, and more stable ride are your priorities even though fuel economy is compromised then go for the all-wheel-drive model with the V6.
